Well he should. He’s a very good coach & developer. Anyone who says otherwise is a blind homer.
Really? On what basis?
Fuente is the one who built Memphis up. He had two great final years (by Memphis standards) and then took another job. Norvell came in and did what? Norvell had two years that were WORSE THAN Fuente's final two years, one year that was EQUAL TO Fuente's final two years, and only one year (Norvell's final year) that was BETTER THAN Fuente's final two years.
Norvell is not known as some great game-day coach.
As for "developer", that's always hard to say when a coach is there for 4 years. Are we supposed to give him full credit for a kid that Fuente had for 3 years and Norvell had for 1 year? Are we supposed to give him full credit for a kid he recruited and had for a year before he left for F$U?
Year 1 (2016) at Memphis - 2017 draft - the kicker got drafted in the 5th round
Year 2 (2017) at Memphis - 2018 draft - a 2nd round pick and a 5th round pick
Year 3 (2018) at Memphis - 2019 draft - a 3rd round pick and a 4th round pick
Year 4 (2019) at Memphis - 2020 draft - a 3rd round pick and two 7th round picks
One year after Norvell was gone, there was a 5th round pick, and two years after Norvell was gone, there was a 3rd round pick and a 4th round pick
Norvell's draft-pick developmental output at Memphis wasn't much different from Fuente's, who put Bobby McCain and Paxton Lynch into the NFL.
Year 1 (2020) at F$U - 2021 draft - a 2nd round pick, two 4th round picks, and a 6th round pick
Year 2 (2021) at F$U - 2022 draft - a 1st round pick who was a transfer-in
You just don't have the evidence that Norvell is some great "coach" or "developer". You don't. It doesn't take a "blind homer" to point out the facts.
