DAILY DEBATE: Who will be Miami’s quarterback in 2026?

Emory, Judd, Nickel, Coleman or other?
It will be a competition between all of the above. Then. When the winner emerges, the competition will be with the portal candidate. Winner take all. Why would we change our formula for success, and take the UGA route, 😹, bc TF are always raw and dangerous.living on the edge.. of playing well and su*king. The idea that young players could wait behind veteran, experienced players at QB has become a foreign idea, except at lower tier schools. They have become the feeders for the upper tier schools to elevate their QB rooms. Elite freshman will always play, but it’s the vets that schools want to increase their odds to win now.

Interesting Debate on the pod today regarding potential QB transfer options (Lagway vs. Bailey):

Ahmmon-  "If I had to take one, I'm gonna be honest. I'm gonna go with Lagway. He has that natural just arm talent that you can't really like coach. It's just the different techniques and just things within the game"

"If he was in Shannon Dawson offense, which he probably won't be here next year, but if he were in the Shannon Dawson offense, you know, slot friendlyhe can get the ball out quick. Guy's getting open, really good run game, o line that's gonna give him time where he don't have to run around and be Cam Newton essentially"

"CJ Bailey, I do think he's going to be a really good quarterback as well."

Pete - "I'm taking Lagway"

D$- "I'll say this, I think Bailey is on the upswing. As he gains the weight theres more velocity, he looks faster and stronger"

"Sometimes these tall guys develop a bit later, CJ is someone who's going up, so by the end of the year this debate could be more interesting"

The Lagway love really surprises me. He's not shown he can consistently be accurate and make sound decisions. I've been wrong about QB development in the past. But I just don't see it here. I think he can be okay, not saying he's bad. But championship caliber? nah.

Fortunately lots of option. Get ready to write a large check.

No chance it’s Emory. Mario and company have shown you how they feel. I don’t they would feel good enough about Judd or Coleman to start week one for a playoff contender so the question will be—-How does Nickel look as the season goes on? I don’t think Mario leaves as without sufficient options. I think if Nickel looks good he will go for a younger QB looking for an opportunity or looking for an older quarterback like the last two seasons.

I don’t think you will get a top QB transfer if Cristobal intends to have a legit competition. Bailey is not going to leave a starting job in the ACC to potentially be a backup in Miami. Question is whether Nickel looks like a championship level QB or not. People who watch Georgia HS football can answer that question better than I can.

Do you really think Bailey is that concerned about competing with Emory that he’d need a guarantee? I don’t.

No but I think if we are looking for a transfer it means Nickel is going to transfer.

I’m a huge fan of Nickel but I’d take that trade in a heartbeat. Luke was a championship QB in HS but Bailey was as well, and is a proven talent at a P4 program in college.

Luke has the best chance of anyone currently on roster. But if there’s a proven portal option I have no doubt that’s the route which will be taken.

Fan of developing guys. But if there’s one place to spend, it’s the most important position.

I can't imagine we are gonna just let either Nickel or Coleman take the reins next year. None of our multi-year program guys, like Emory or Judd, are ever gonna lead this program; we have to add someone. The lack of Nickel getting a single drive against bethune kinda solidified that for me. If nickel potentially gets into later games like Stanford, this changes my outlook. (Julian Sayin got into 4 games last year for reference, and is starting as a RS FR, same as Nickel would be)

Let Emory transfer out, he deserves a shot to start g5. Judd can be a camp body if he wants.
Add a bona fide transfer; preferably 2 years of eligibility ( 1 if he is a star and declares)
Let Nickel and Coleman battle for who the next man up is; this is what truly elite programs do: bring in tons of talent and let them compete.

I would like to have an experienced Portal QB especially when looking at next year's road schedule, @Notre Dame, @S.Carolina, @Clemson, etc.

Other, especially if Nickel gets limited or no PT this year.

FWIW, we play at USCe on 9/5/26.
Week 0 is open. ACC game or (@) ND?
