DAILY DEBATE: What is the key to the game against FSU?

Red zone success on both sides of the ball.

I personally believe both teams will be able to move the ball effectively. Our defense has been dominant but FSU's offense is legit. I think they'll able to move the ball on us and find some success on offense.

But if defense can limit them to FGs or 4th down stops + offense can convert red zone possessions into TDs, Canes win and cover.

Stop the run. Have good eye discipline, set the edge, maintain gap integrity, and win individual battles... especially to the right side of the line where they are strongest and have been blowing people up. Be physical, take good angles, and swarm. Pressure Castellano and make him throw off balance, and be physical on screens.

On offense, be efficient. We can beat you running the ball or throwing the ball, so just take what the defense gives you numbers-wise and don't force anything. No dumb penalties. Play with patience and efficiency.

Also, win the turnover battle.

We should be favored to win but it might not be easy.

Not settling for 3 if we are going to play control the block ball (still don’t fully trust that operation). Get them into 3rd and less manageable situations. Don’t give up explosive TDs. We aren’t explosive and I think we are built to play with a lead. I don’t like the outlook if we get down 2 scores

This Florida State offense reminds me SO much of the Paul Johnson GT offenses.

-Small, speedy, elusive QB whose inaccurate but will hit a big pass play a few times a game
-Small, speedy, elusive RB
-Big powering RB
-One tall, physical wide receiver that gets half the throws
-Lots of misdirection.

If they can't hit on big plays it's a long day for the offense. The difference is GT wanted to absolutely drain the clock and go on 8:00 drives, and could, because their o-lines were dominant. FSU plays fast and their o-line is not dominant so they can't rely on wearing you down. They have to hit on big plays.

The key to beating GT was playing disciplined. It's the same story here. We can hope that Lyle and Trader come in and have big games but that alone wouldn't be anything I'd lean on. You get comfortable with this offense and the game is over. ****, Beck could have a terrible game but if the defense does their job it won't matter.

Yeah Cam isn't walking thru that door to bring us back.

Third downs. Convert ours to keep wearing their defense down. They have very little depth on either side of the ball. The second half should be much like the gator game if we can do what we always try to do and hold the ball and physically assault them on every play.

And limit theirs. Everyone expects them to have a bunch of explosives, and I think they'll have some, but fewer than they did against Bama and UVA. So they'll be in 3rd down situations a lot. Keep them medium to long, and make Lil Tommy use his arm to convert. There's nothing more demoralizing for a defense than playing great defense on 1st and 2nd down, an offense having 3rd and long, being in a great call, the offense being totally screwed....and the QB running around like he's in the backyard and picking up a first down. It's back-breaking. Plus, our first team DL might be the best in the country. Second team, not so much. It's imperative Bain and Mesidor play as many snaps as possible. The best way for that is to not let FSU have long drives.

Keep their defense on the field and lean on them. Get off the field when they have third downs, or at least make Lil Tommy earn them with his arm.
