DAILY DEBATE: What is the key to the game against FSU?

I understand FSU tends to run a 3-3-5, Wonder what would happen if we trot out our power formation with the freshman OL from Bishop Gorman as a extra blocker and quick tempo run after run not allowing them to substitute because we won't. Wonder how they would hold up against it both schematically and talent-wise. BTW, I am not talking about a goal line offense only. I'm talking start at our own 20 and hopefully use it down the field eventually either forcing them to change their personnel or suffer the consequences.

I'm no X and O guru but I wonder about the above. Thoughts?

Finding this generations Jen Sterger in the crowd. Lol.

Oh, the game?

Joaquin said “dominate”……

Weathering the early storm. You know they are going to try to put it on us early and quick. Once we begin to ground and pound the momentum will move to us.

Win turnovers
Limit explosives on D
Finish drives with TD not fgs
Red zone efficiency
Dominate the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball
Limit the penalties especially pre snap
Stay on schedule on offense so we can punish them with our running game.
Force them to bring the safeties up in run support to open up the passing game.

Win in the trenches like usual.....this team is built to win inside out....do that consistently everything else will come...

DB's tackling on the edge. Gus is going to throw 25 sideways passes to avoid the DL, it's all up to the DB's to blow that up and not get caught with a double move after Gus sets that up 15 times.
Yep. I'd love to see our DBs blow up a few screens to the point that the ball gets tipped (like against ND). Horizontal passing is regarded as a safe extension of the running game, but with violent and instinctive DB play it can actually be quite risky for the offense.

Every single team has tried this against us. Those OC's look at our DL, and try to scheme away from it. Hetherman mentioned this several times. We have some big fyzical DB's and TBH other than Duece they are kind of small and soft at WR. I'd love to see Danzy trying to block Damari Brown lol. He ain't ready for that smoke.

On defense, slow the pace of their offense down by giving them very little on 1st and 2nd downs. Forcing them into 3rd and long makes them one dimensional and they suck in that dimension.

On offense, it’s about protecting the ball and scoring on every drive. Take the time to march down the field and get points, but even better, give your defense time to recover from the fast pace snaps.

The quick snaps can be your foe if you aren’t getting first downs as much as it can be your friend by tiring out the defense. I prefer the former. Time of possession will then favor us substantially and we get a dominant win out of it.

The key to the game is stopping the run, staying ahead of the sticks, converting on manageable 3rd downs, and protecting the football.

Imposing our will on D. Shut down their run game and make the midget throw 5 picks.

Discipline on defense

Offensively I think coaches love the matchup

Defensively we’ve seen Malzahn consistently be a thorn in Saban’s side. Don’t extend drives with stupid decisions. Stay true to assignments.

And then Norvell tries to coach himself out of a game by getting too cute so expect the unexpected
