DAILY DEBATE: What adjustments would you make on offense going from Ward to Beck?

No passes.

All run.

TUFF N FYZICAL.

If that is too masculine of a concept to handle for the sit to make the pee-pee crowd, Dawson et al must game plan for:

Ward mobility >>> Beck mobility

Miami O isn't going to get bailed out with Ward's scoot scoot ability. With that said, I don't believe Beck's assassin-esque arm is going to give up those INTs that Ward did.

As long as Dawson and WRs know they need to get open quick, Beck's accuracy (when he is on) should be very, very, VERY good.
He had more INT’s than Ward.

Get Beck a proper corner man

Most of these guys think any run out of the shotgun is a draw.

We do run IZ and OZ but we run more gap scheme runs than any other Air Raid offense probably ever. We run power, duo, we trap, we do a lot of traditional run game stuff. We don’t do a ton of counter but that’s kind of the opposite of what we’re trying to do schematically and personnel-wise. We want to bludgeon the defense with a power scheme and big running back. Not fool the defense with misdirection and backs that can change direction quickly.
Thats all good, but we need to be able to mix all of it in there. Every run game should have a counter play.

I believe when you roll tbe tape those INTs were Jawga WRs handing the ball to DBs....

I'm certainly not saying Beck >> Ward, I just THINK he doesn't have those cross body "throw it up and pray" moments.
Meaning he doesn’t take the chances that Ward did. I will admit Ward had a couple head scratchers, but he was so good. That we just let him have his way in the offense.

Don’t force the run or the pass. Take what the defense gives you and put the offense in the most advantageous position. Beck has shown he can be a high level thrower. He’s not as mobile in the pocket as ward but he can make some runs and move around a bit

We didn't have any spread stuff in the run game. We were super simple. Inside zone spam runs in to the same two gaps. Most predictable.run game in the ACC. Good defenses pinched and shot the A gap. We have no outside zone or outside run game. Some thing tells me the run game from 24 is not working in 25. Scheme is too vanilla.
Thought in 23 I saw some pullers but those might’ve been for WR screens tbh I can’t remember

Once again, personnel dictates playcalling. Or at least should. We had two 230 pound running backs taking a majority of our carries last year. We ran appropriately with them. Martinez was a bit more patient so the zone stuff really worked with him. Fletcher made a big jump in his ability to find a hole rather than just lowering his head and plowing forward but he’s still a power guy. Maybe with Lyle getting more work, we’ll get a little more variety. I would expect them to alter things given the fact that different guys are going to be getting more playing time.

Since he's played in one for the entirety of his career I don't think he more-or-less cares.

He transferred here because he got paid $4million dollars upfront guaranteed, which is likely more than he would've got had he stayed in the draft.

If the Goal is to win the ACC & be a playoff contender, then operating a run heavy Offense is our best shot with him at QB.

Unless we add multiple NFL caliber WR's on the roster by Spring, I don't think you guys would want to see a pass heavy Offense with Beck not having enough weapons, he's not the kinda QB that elevates talent around him.

Random thoughts, opinions and observations from Spring, below:

Hot take: Nickel will be the backup QB if he keeps progressing at this rate.

2nd on the Pringle observations. He is a running back who is also a sprinter, not the opposite. I am excited about him.

Defense, from what I saw, sat in Palms (Quarters, Read-2, Cov. 4, etc.) all day and it looked functional. For the love of god I hope we get good at this base coverage. We need to develop some IQ in coverage. Last year was an abortion in any pattern match zones and we weren't good in Man-Free. Man-Free was the lesser of two evils and we also got schemed up because of it. We saw the result.

People got ****ed at Emory for checking down to the flat all day--it was the correct safe read in the coverage we were in. I would have liked to see him find some soft spots in the middle or down the field. He is too mechanical--but we all know that. Nickel had the balls to go down field. I'm a fan.

We aren't very good right now--but that isn't unexpected at this point. We get the QB back and we get the defense organized, and we have the personnel to put together a strong season. People don't want to hear this, but we will win a lot of games on ball control and depth. WE WILL RUN THE BALL.

We need another outside receiver.

Earlier in the spring I thought we needed another LB. I don't think that anymore.

Add some depth in the portal and let's roll.

Run the ball 70% of the time.
You obviously get it Sir. I'm so happy that you have left behind the girly immature fantasy of a potent high volume passing attack that emphasizes getting the ball to playmakers in space.

You just took a huge step towards achieving manhood by embracing the toughness and physicality of a ground and pound rushing attack that minces no words and goes right at the opponent! Phone booth football is the ultimate expression of true masculinity. We don't try to trick opponents with counters, draws, flea flickers or misdirection. Only women attempt to mislead. We are MEN! We boldly proclaim our intentions then we have the sack to follow through! Straight at them! Right through A gap! 80% run and 20% pass may seem a bit unconventional. I know...That's a lot of dainty passing but hey....The game evolves and here we are!

I'm not joking or being sarcastic.

If yall want us to win this year, you'd better hope we're a run heavy team.

We already know the screen game won’t be as good. Cam gets the ball out faster than anyone on the screen game. I think Beck would be like two whole seconds slower which gives the defense a head start on pursuit. We have to establish the run game so Lyle and Pringle have to be threats this season. If we do that we should be alright….but everything will look much slower imo.

And why exactly do we need to be a run heavy team to win? Since you're not joking or being sarcastic, do you really think the passing offense with a healthy Beck will be that bad?

We did not bring in a top QB like carson beck to run 70% of the time. We would have got a running dual threat QB then. Still need to take advantage of the arm talent of Beck behind this incredible o-line. Offense should be more balanced than last year tho

Cut large checks in the spring to surround him with 1st round picks on both sides of the ball.

I’m with you when you’re right… so who should be our key targets for tampering?

Do NOT say Jeremiah Smith for the love of God, lol.
