I didn’t know head coaches can’t recruit in spring…or am I misunderstanding
Personally I'm just hoping one of the WRs steps up significantly because I don't see any top WRs entering the portal at this point. Same with OT. We should have went harder for a portal WR before Spring, but now it feels too late - especially since Bama jumped on Harrell. Not that we shouldn't get an upgrade if one becomes available, I just am not very optimistic one will. And its pretty unfortunate Mims decided to stay at UGA.So I guess the claims of my “fake news” on the wr group can be put to bed finally.
This is what I believe is the monumental change we needed most. At least as it relates to player development. Couldn’t have harped on this more over the last few years. We had regular practice goers shocked at how little we tackled.
The fact that he's put his WR group on notice is encouraging. They will not be surprised nor blindsided when we accept 1 or 2 transfers.
Mario's philosophy seems simple: Either get it done at a high level or watch your reps be taken by someone (transfer/recruit etc)
I dont want Mario to be interviewed on joe rose until Mario proves he can stay on joe roseVery candid and detailed interview with Joe Rose. Some highlights:
- The team does much less 7v7 than it did under Manny. Cristobal likes 11v11 even for the passing period because it improves pocket presence and is more realistic. Players had to adjust to the physicality of practice.
- He complained that head coaches aren’t allowed to recruit in spring. Said he feels like he’s in a cage.
- DBs practiced much better than they looked on last year’s tape. Addae is an exceptional teacher.
- Frierson is a versatile player who can fill different roles because of his IQ.
- The two Williams are knockback tacklers. He hinted that the roster is missing that element.
- Joe tried to argue we didn’t need a WR transfer. Cristobal disagreed and said we need competition. He said he places a lot of emphasis on the spring game and made clear it was a subpar performance.
- We are obviously attacking the Portal for the Front Seven. He is trying to be adequate at weak spots before we elevate talent by recruiting. The players held out for spring will help the group and they are being developed hard.
- He loves Jason Taylor and said he is very hungry and humble given his position in life.
- QBs are a special group. You can tell he feels good about all three. He praised Ponce as a QB-only coach who can focus on fundamentals instead of scheme.
- He liked how Parrish and Franklin both got downhill.
- Ended with some jokes about NIL. He wants to use his players’ cars on his recruiting trips.

He also mentioned that he's met one on one with almost every player this week. Has 16 left for today.... Said he's alwa;ys very upfront with them.
Feels like he’s in a cage lol
Love this guy
Dude just tell the truth to the best of your knowledge and ignore the 10% on either extreme. *** themOne thing I’ve learned is im screwed with some folks regardless lol. I’m a “sunshine pumper” if it’s positive , it’s “fake news” if it’s negative , I “love attention” so I go awol for two months but” that’s only because I lost my sauces”. At this point I just laugh.
Yeah, I’ve argued that WRs aren’t as bad as they looked at the spring game, but I like that he’s lighting a fire under them. Even if I’m right, they need to step the f*ck up, and Mario’s making sure they understand that. The fact that he's put his WR group on notice is encouraging. They will not be surprised nor blindsided when we accept 1 or 2 transfers.

I think we’ve all seen the recruiting dangers of putting too much faith in 7 v 7.It also let us know that our eyes weren’t tripping.
I love that he wants to create competition, which mitigates complacency. U can never have too much talent at this level, & definitely not too much competition.
I also appreciate using the 11 on 11 element vs 7 on 7. We don’t play 7 v 7 in real life. It has its place, sure, but if u focus on those type of practices, u’re limiting the preparation for ur team in real game experience.
That’s amazingThe part just before that was even better. I think he called it 'the stupidest rule in history' or something like that, then talked about how he makes all the assistant coaches facetime him from their recruiting trips.
Tireless recruiter.
He meant travel on the road...I didn’t know head coaches can’t recruit in spring…or am I misunderstanding
Ahhh that makes sense nowHe meant travel on the road...
You can invite kids to campus & host them on unofficials, but it’s Evaluation period from now until the end of May & then the last week of June will be the beginning of Dead period until the last week of July.
During evaluation period you can assess a recruits academics qualifications & whether or not they’re good enough to play in terms of requesting to see their High school film from their school, but no off-campus contact or recruiting communication can take place off-campus & you can’t visit their school.
This is what I believe is the monumental change we needed most. At least as it relates to player development. Couldn’t have harped on this more over the last few years. We had regular practice goers shocked at how little we tackled.
Amen.
There aren’t but maybe 5 coaches in all CFB cut from the same clothe.Feels like he’s in a cage lol
Love this guy
Stories of his recruiting prowess years back, I thought they were overblown to be honestThere aren’t but maybe 5 coaches in all CFB cut from the same clothe.
