Craig Kuligowski

Craig Kuligowski heading south? - Rock M Nation

SBN's Atlanta Falcons blog advocates for Craig Kuligowski to become their pass rush coach but I'm hearing rumors that he could join Mark Richt at Miami to become the Hurricane's defensive coordinator/ defensive line coach.

Miami plays Washington State today at 1:00 pm, after which Mark Richt will take over coaching duties. Something to keep an eye on.

I wonder if Richt is friendly enough with Pinkel to get an honest opinion from him as to why he never promoted Kuligowski to DC.

I'm fine with him as DC..

I mean if you want his service, u gotta give him DC power.

Not sure about as DC, as I want someone proven, but his DL track record is ELITE. Would be impressive as **** to have him on staff.

is Kuligowski a future head coach type? thats what we want. A guy that once we win the ACC everyone is drooling over

it's not really a question if wasn't good enough to be DC at missouri. they have a new coach and new coaches bring in their guys.

I think this would be really solid news...

He seems to have done a great job at Missouri....

A solid DC would tell me that Richt does indeed want to compete for championships at Miami....

Interesting. How's he as a recruiter? Obviously has a proven track record of development. Would love to see what he could do with Miami caliber talent at DL.

Who cares about how he recruits?

Me. That's why I asked the question.

It's Miami. Win and kids come. It's that simple

People are too caught up with having a staff of recruiters.

Especially when this is a coach that does what actually made Miami great: finds great players and coaches them up regardless of recruiting rankings.

It's amazing how everyone talks about wanting the old Miami back, yet wants us to act like Notre Dame and FSU. What made us better than those teams is we didn't waste time begging national stars to come play for us. We found the hungriest nastiest athletes and taught them the game.

Well said, Fully, well said.

He was offered the DC position at Illinois a year ago but turned it down. If we reach for a first time DC, this is the guy I would want.

Not good enough to be DC at Missouri, but is for Miami...? That possible?

That's the part that would probably stop me from making him anything other than a co-DC paired with a veteran DC. He worked with Pinkel forever, and Pinkel had several chances to promote him to DC. He likely saw something he didn't think would translate to being a DC.

Has there ever been a successful team with co-DCs and co-OCs?

You sure he turned it down? He got mad when Pinkel went to Memphis to get Odom as the new DC. So he went to Illinois to interview for their DC gig. Why would he then turn it down?

Per the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Kuligowski had been considering an offer to become Illinois's co-defensive coordinator "for several weeks," and that Missouri was unaware of any final decision as of Monday morning. But the longtime Gary Pinkel assistant will remain in Columbia for at least another year.

“As a coach, you're always looking to advance yourself professionally in hopes of someday having a chance to become a head coach," Kuligowski said in a statement. "It was important for me and my family to consider this opportunity, and I'm grateful to have gone through the experience, but after evaluating everything, what is best for us is to stay here at Mizzou.”

I can't think of any. I know there have been a lot of successful teams with co-coordinators on one side of the ball. I can't think of one that did it on offense and defense.
