This isn’t a fire manny thread but Cowherd makes some interesting points regarding hiring NFL staff coaches as head coaches for college football. He takes a shot at Al Golden here (easy to do). He thinks NFL coaches are better suited to handle the “business” that college football players have begun.

You know which current college coach has NFL HC experience, is an outstanding recruiter, and is considered a schematic genius?

He had me at BUTCH DAW GAWD.

He’s acting like all those guys were NFL guys first and then went down to coach college. Every single one of them with the exception of maybe Carroll were successful college coaches first then got hired to the NFL. Jimmy, Carroll and Vermeil were the only ones who had enough success in the NFL to stay.

Not to nitpick but Butch was with the cowboys under Jimmy. He didn’t mention it but Schnellenberger learned under Shula with the Dolphins. Both NFL HOF coaches. Is it a coincidence Butch and Schnellenberger both “built” the program twice.
Edit: they each did it once but the program was twice built.

Carroll coach the patriots before USC.

I think that was shot at both Golden and Manny. But, just the fact that we are going to Temple rather than hiring a known quality coach is his point.

College fans all over are getting tired of this crap. They make billions and many of the teams don't seem to be trying at all.

I know this but he was at Okie State and Miami with Jimmy before he followed him to Dallas. Schnellenberger learned under Bear Bryant at Alabama before joining Shula.
