Corey Heatherman revisited..

There’s no picture changing. What you see pre snap is what you see post snap. The DL has been very inconsistent but alot of the reason for lack of pass rush is everyone knows where they’re going pre snap. They rarely guess wrong. Things are very predictable. You rarely see patting of the ball by the qb , leaving the pocket early or choppy feet. Which tells me they’re trusting their eyes. They’re very decisive.
is Blount hurt? someone told me he's been fighting injuries? Also, maybe play booker Pickett more, when he's on the field he's very active.

Guidry did the same thing Heatherman has done. Had an elite defense with Kam, James and them and the following year we struggled because the elite talent was gone. This year we are trying to play the same as last year, but we don’t have a the horses on the back end. We have to play our corners up sometimes and trust that they can make enough plays. Because letting teams drive for 10 minutes and keeping everything in front of us has not worked very well. We’ve made every QB we have played have a dream game smh. We cannot continue to play this way!
you are right so far. We do not have alot of NFL talent on the field.

You know it's an emotional fan board when people are claiming that everything comes down to coaching. Like the #1 team in the country doesn't have coaches who know how to teach high school-level tackling.

It's okay to say sometimes that the players just aren't that good.
lol listen…coaches coach and players play..if the same things keep on happing it’s ether you are coaching it or allowing it…..great players will make a lot of coaches look good….when that’s not the case can the coach help his players look better….

A lot of those issues are coaching or the lack of coaching….

But consider that not only are we coming off a national title run in the CFP, but also evaluated the transfer portal options for holes on the team. Tackling, for example, was surely considered when looking at the players.

You're giving me trauma from 2 seasons ago where Guidry would have the D Line stunt into a massive gain for any running back we faced.
I dont want it to be 80% of the time like Guidry but every once in awhile do something different. Seems like OCs have figured out what Heatherman is doing

If that’s the case, what should Mario do in the off-season? Hit the portal hard? Encourage Heatherman to look for another job? Relieve him of his duties? No coach wants to be known as trigger-happy with a coordinator… Not a good look for a respected DC.

Can't play zone and tackle extremely poorly.

If we tackle better it would have looked different last night. We tackled very very poorly. I watched 2 UNC drive highlights this AM, and already saw multiple missed tackles that allowed UNC and extra 30-40 yards.

I don’t know if he’s good, bad, or drunk. But, the data says he is playing entirely too much Cover 3. And, while the narrative seems to be that ol’ salty Petrino put on a master class tonight, what is the evidence? He threw to his TE and backs.

Nothing crazy or fancy. He identified our weaknesses - LBs in coverage, a Frosh safety who is getting crazy snaps but sometimes confused, late breaking safeties, Corners who intentionally bail into the ether - and just called plays for them. What he did really was a lesson in self-discipline. Those Safety blitzes are stale. The simulated pressure is predictable. And, that QB had the night of his life because of us; not himself.

Db injuries? What does he need, an All Pro DBackfield? UNC’s QB had almost 3x the incompletions against Syracuse. How many of Cuse’s defenders see the field in our jerseys?
Genuinely asking, are those predictable blitzes a force function of our DL unable to get any pressures?

I’m not in his mind, but the facts tell me no. Hetherman spammed Nickel blitzes last season despite two of the best pass rushers in America. He sometimes used it to set an edge or dictate run fits.

I tend to be an optimist but I do see what everyone else sees in regards to the **** poor pass D and tackling. I think Heatherman & Co. will have a hard look in the mirror and get it fixed. However I do not understand the LB rotation other than Smith & Toure being good at stopping the run. I still think the staff will turn things around like what we saw with the OL for the most part last night

It's hard to tackle/pursue when you are dropping back into zone coverage every play and then scrambling on your heels into blockers and runners with a full head of steam. We would tackle much better if we were coming downhill.
This is so ridiculous. Other teams play off coverage/soft zones and don't consistently miss tackles. We also don't finish tfls/sacks. Btw, we played a ton of man, that didn't work either.
