Is this poster alluding to that FSU, and possibly Miami and Clemson are leaving ACC?
If this (ESPN giving up the GOR) were to happen, I would have to imagine it would be contingent on the SEC/ESPN getting every school they want from the ACC. No way they would dissolve it only to watch schools they want sign with the Big10.

BIG10 has a difficult decision to make. It cannot leave USC/UCLA on an island out west. It seems logical that at least 2 additional PAC12 programs join the BIG10. The likely candidates are Washington, Oregon, Stanford and Cal. Adding two teams leaves 2 more openings (BIG10 is on the record as wanting 20 teams). Those 2 additional programs are likely ND, plus an additional team from the ACC or, if ND declines an invite, 2 schools from the ACC.

The SEC is currently at 16 and is likely to expand and invite 4 schools from the ACC to protect its turf and television reveunue stream. That brings the SEC to 20 teams as well.

The biggest obstacle to leaving the ACC is the GOR, which absent lengthy and expensive legal battles, can be solved with 8 ACC universities voting to dissolve the ACC. If 4 ACC schools opt for the SEC and 2 ACC schools opt for the BIG10 (ND has a vote), that still leaves you 2 votes short of dissolution. It’s unlikely the teams not headed for the BIG10 or SEC would vote in favor of dissolution because that would essentially seal their own fate.

The BIG10 can solve this issue by not taking more West coast schools and taking 4 ACC shools. That would result in 8 ACC univeristies voting for dissolution. But, USC/UCLA may not like that and Oregon is already rumored to be in discussions with the BIG10.

Maybe the BIG12 comes to the rescue and offers 2+ ACC schools to join?

Certianly makes for interesting fodder.

The only accurate statement of this is that ESPN holds all of the cards for the next decision. They either want the ACC to survive or not as a 50% owner of the ACCN. If they want the ACC to survive, then they have $$ sitting there for content after losing the Big 10. If they want to go all in on an expanded SEC and take away the ACC, they can do that as well by releasing the GOR.

Anyone think there could be four P5 conferences?
It’s eventually going to be the SEC and the B1G as the only two conferences that truly matter. Power 5, Power 4, whatever you want to call it now or tomorrow…it’s going to one day come down to those two conferences essentially competing amongst themselves and then squaring off in their own version of the Super Bowl.

They could probably allow the Teams to leave to the SEC which they control AND help merge ACC with B12 bringing in the ACC network into the fold there…

More than that ... he is basically saying the top 8 programs in the ACC will be absorbed by the Big and Sec ... the balance going to the Big 12. So

-Clemson
-Miami
-FSU
-UNC
-Virginia
-Va Tech
-Ga Tech (academics & market)
-ND?

Crazy times for sure.

Maybe I'm wrong but I think the Big 12 is already in advanced talks with those Pac 12 schools you mentioned.

The funny thing is that last year that conference basically imploded after UT/OU left, now it looks like Pac 12 and ACC are weaker than the Big 12 as they are well positioned to be the third power conference when it is all said and done.

The Zona schools, Utah, & Colorado have been the talks.

UO, Cal, Stanford, & UDub have been the rumors to the B1G

The PAC-12 is looking to expand adding SDSU, Fresno, Boise St, & potentially Utah St to convince its other members to stay & go after a better TV contract.

From what my little homie at UO said, UO is not b.s’ing around. SC is their biggest threat, & they can’t have that big of a financial threat to their infrastructure.

The ACC may be able to expand to collapsing the PAC-12 w/ the remaining schools & be a complete Coastline conference, but not sure that most the needle further a $50-60 revenue stream, especially if or when Clemson, FSU, us leave the fold.

It’s a super hot topic out here b/c the PAC-12 got bodied in the kidneys w/ SC & UCLA. The UC Regents r only concerned w/ Cal, & the PAC-12 is in straight scramble mode.

A lot of this hinges on ND, honestly. We’ll probably see discussions well into next yr.

SEC 16 (-Mizzou) + UM, fsu, GT, Clemson, UNC, NC State, UVA, VT, WVU

B1G 16 + U-Dub, Oregon, Stanford, Cal, KU, Mizzou, Notre Dame, Duke

Why would Missouri leave the SEC?

Midwest school in a Southern conference = square peg in a round hole

Academic prestige of Big Ten

Always wanted to be in the B1G, but then-commissioner Jim Delany was moving a lot slower on expansion back in 2010. Went to SEC just to gtfo of the Big 12 and away from Tex-***

Re-united in B1G package deal with Kansas, most heated rivalry for both schools

Heard somewhere yesterday that USC doesn't want UO or any additional west coast schools in the conference. BigTen leadership probably does want additional programs, but it's not as clean for additional western schools as it may seem.
