Coaching Staff 12/27 PM Update: Rumph, others

In today’s college game you need a defense that can cause turnovers and negative plays and an offense that can put up points in a hurry

Not even top teams. If this defense absolutely needs a stop, they can't get it. How many games did give up a late TD drive. UF, UNC, VT, GT. Even in games against FIU, Duke and La Tech a defensive stop was needed to get the offense the ball back for one last try and the defense gave up a TD instead. Our defense is awful in certain situations. We don't start or finish games strong. We play well after making adjustments and still not elite.
This is why some of you can’t be taken seriously. GT scored 7 offensive points in regulation. Shut out in the second half and the offense didn’t capitalize. UF scored so late the in the 4th quarter that the offense gave the ball back to UF and the defense picked UF and the offense still did nothing with it. So how late was it really? You wanna bring up LA Tech like the offense didn’t have chance after chance and the game ended on Perry’s pick?

Wake the **** up all of you. Good teams score a lot of points and put game pressure on opponents. If you don’t do that you allow offenses to stick with what they do best with no fear of what happens if stuff isn’t working. Because so what? That other offense isn’t gonna score. We’ll stick with our **** until something pops. Very few are as bad on offense as Miami so something is eventually gonna work.

Most can’t read that many sentences on this forum nor comprehend basic football info

Our defense isn’t great but it’s better than Oklahoma’s. The scheme we run is built for a spread team. You put up a bunch of points and force teams to keep up and the turnovers and negative plays will pile up.

How many turnovers and tfl did we have against clemson and wisky?

the defense doesnt work against great OL. the entire thing falls apart and cant stop anyone.

My bad on GT, you're right there but still couldn't hold a lead against UF either no matter many excuses you make.

Wrong. Miami was up 21-14 against GT with less than 5 minutes left and the defense gave up a 80 yard drive for a TD and allowed them to force OT. Again still couldn't hold a lead against UF either no matter many excuses you make.

So what you’re saying is they gave up 7 points in regulation

The defense is less effective against great OL but that has more to do with their players being better than ours (not the defensive scheme being deficient). The defense CMD runs now would ball the f_ck out, if we had players from the 2001 team executing it.

We had one of THE TOP DEFENSES in all of CFB in 2018 (when Diaz was the DC). The defense was #1 in Pass Defense and top 3 in a variety of different categories. You can criticize Manny for his OC hire and his ridiculous special teams hire (P@tke) and other issues, but there is no question he's a great defensive mind. He's got to improve the other two phases dramatically though (Offense & ST) or he will fail. Recruiting on OL & at CB have to pick up dramatically also.
