Coaching search update

Those who think Chip Kelly wouldn't have more success at UT then Strong I can't take seriously.

Chip Kelly won how many national championships at Oregon?? Unlike Herman at Houston, Strong wasn't gift wrapped a loaded team in a weak conference.

If Chip Kelly was at Texas you'd be talking about how Chip he needs more time to build his team up.
Chip was winning 10+ games a year with 2&3 star players.

No national championships to show for it... coaching in a soft finesse conference. Chip would be getting blown out at Texas worse than Strong bc he doesn't know how to field a defense.
Because the B12 and ACC are full of tough defenses?

No because his offense would suck at Texas this year, who does he have to run the Oregon offense at a 100 mph at Texas? We have to start thinking ppl, do you see Mariota on the team? While his offense would be awful at Texas the defense would get embarrassed left and right. Chip would probably quit on his own.

AUcane I'd at least make the phone call and make him tell you no. Petersen and Dennis Erickson have very similar backgrounds. Offensive guys, lifelong westerners, never recruited east of Texas. It can work.

There's also the issue that Southern Cal apparently has taken a pass on both Herman and Fuente.

They have passed on Herman because Herman is totally unproven. He is 8-0 in his first season in a mediocre conference. Since when is that enough to qualify a HC to take an elite job like USC, or even a great job like the U?

As for Fuente, his D sucks. He also coaches in a horrible conference.

Herman and Fuente could end up being elite head coaches, but a hire like that is risky.

Those who think Strong is a bad option but Herman and Fuentes are great options, i cant take seriously.

And neither does Strong. Strong has nothing close to what Kelly accomplished. Strong's accomplishments were in an inferior conference (the Big East) so not sure how knocking Kelly (weak conference) makes it a good argument for Strong.

As for his Defense (between 2009-2012):

Average Scoring D: 22.18 PPG
Average Total D: 361.6 YPG

Those aren't bad numbers at all.

As for his Offense:

Oregon had a top 8 or better offense each season in Scoring Offense. He also had top 5 total offense 3 times.

[BOLD] Just making sure everyone in the thread knows what I am arguing with. Remember this is a Strong supporter.

Kapernick has a better qb rating than Cam. If I'm not mistaken, Cam is having his worst year and is only completing 54% of his passes.

Using Cam to support Dorsey is a very poor argument.

Have you watched Cam? He's an MVP candidate.

His numbers are low because he is surrounded by bums. Ted Ginn dropping a perfect pass last night sums up what he's dealing with. And his biggest improvement has been decision-making, which speaks well of Dorsey.

He's an MVP candidate because that team is doing well. They have the second best running game (8 yards from the first) and a top 10 defense in the league. Ryan Fitzpatrick is having a better season than him.

I'd support Dorsey for OC, but it has nothing to do with Cam.

Wrong.

Fitzpatrick has marshall and decker. Can has nobody at wide receiver. I mean nobody. Olsen is his only option.
Actually, no. Everything I just posted was facts so saying wrong doesn't change them.

Brandon Marshall, known for the dropsies?

Did you know that since Cam has been in the league, Fitzpatrick has averaged a better QBR?

Miami should be smart and pass on Herman and Fuente too

Honestly. I want Butch. I love the idea of him coming back. But if Chip Kelly came on the table:

Kelly >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Everyone else.

Oh Lord, not Chip again. First, he is not coming here. Second everyone acts like he is a no risk hire. This is not Saban, who won NC then went to pros and came back. Chip never won the one thing that matters here AN NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP. If he fails in the pros he will have again FAILED to do what matters. Why would we think being here would be different. Would he score points? Yeap. Would So FL recruits be the magic he needs? I don't think so. The biggest advantage our local recruits give us in endless supply of fast aggressive DEFENSIVE player for DE, LB, DB and safety. Do we have great rbs and WR oh yeah, but Chip's system is designed to make up for lack of them. If you are of the belief that offense is all that matters to winning NC then Chip could be your man. But give me Butch and a defense any day.

Fuente had great defenses until this year. His DC was hired away this year and has Mizzou with a top defense in the SEC and nation. Everyone expects him to either join Fuente at whatever P5 school he goes to, or to take over the Memphis HC position when Fuente leaves.

Hey D, I would think that our crucial EEs for 2016 would like to know who the coach his they sign. Don't they sign up like in December?

Lol you got all Oregons stats saved huh? why are you even bringing up Chip Kelly in the 1st place? Chip Kelly is not Herman, two different ppl... Hes not a head coach candidate, No coach would be winning right now at Texas you have to be pretty delusional to think other wise.

And Yes i am a "Strong supporter" so what. Butch is my top choice but it's a win regardless.

If Strong's receiving stronger consideration from our admin than Tom Herman, then...well, f***

The search just started. They already know Strong. If Blake becomes sold on Herman, I expect that he will get major consideration.

Also, we have no idea if Herman wants the job. People always ignore that part.

You have to make them want the job. It's just like recruiting a 5star. Convince them they want to be part of it. Can't just say hey you interested? No--- ok thanks anyway.

What if Strong continues to flame out at Texas? I think that would take him out of HC consideration here. BUT, if he gets fired from UT and we hire Butch, I'd welcome Strong as a DC.

This, I think Strong's flame will burn out if he continues to get humiliated by sub-par opponents. Agree that he would make a great DC and that's probably his ceiling.

my concern is strong's whole success was build on the recruiting class the year randy was fired and playing in a weak conference

You do know Oregon was winning 10 games before Chip Kelly was head coach? Get off his nuts please, he's in the NFL.

Southern Cal is sort of in the same boat as we are. They can't afford to **** up this next hire, even though they've got gobs more money than we do, and a similar recruiting base.

I don't doubt that Herman has an awesome future, but 7 victories at a mid-major does not make one the next Vince Lombardi. I think that is guiding SC's thinking, and I suspect ours' as well.

1. Fuente and Herman are in the same conference. So is it "mediocre" or "horrible?"

2. Memphis's defense was ranked 27th last year. They lost 8 starters this year and their DC went to Missouri (where he has a top-rated defense).

I'd support Dorsey for OC, but it has nothing to do with Cam.

I think if you look at Cam's play/production/#'s pre-Dorsey versus under Dorsey's tutelage you will see a considerable improvement. Cam has said it himself that Dorsey is a big reason for his improvement over the last 2years.

At least the search seems to be improving. So, we have that going for us, which is nice.

Go Canes!

Is it Dorsey or Shula that is the reason for cams successes? Just haven't heard much praise of Dorsey from NFL people.

How is Texas so BAD that it can beat Oklahoma yet lose to Iowa State? That kind of record in Year 2 has to give the Hecht pause.
