Coaching Failure in 2016

Up 13-3 driving on the FSU 18 yard line and Kaaya throws a terrible INT nowhere near the WR

We were completely shutting down FSU until that INT

Sorry you don’t want to admit Kaaya cost us that game

Great he threw 1 pass to get a TD after Berrios got us inside the 20 on a PR because Kaaya wasn’t going 60+ yards to tie it up at that point well since you know he never did it in his entire career

I'm with you that Kaaya never pulled out a come from behind victory - but Kaaya came up big vs FSU with his back against the wall.

After Berrios had a 43 yd return to the FSU 16.....

Richt calls 3 straight runs to Walton - for 5 yds. What?? Walton was 11 for 34 yds at this point - so 3 straight runs when you need a TD was beyond dumb.

Kaaya/Coley pulled us out of the hole Richt/Walton put us in on our last possession - but the PAT killed us.

Here's the play-by-play

Gall was actually one of the most improved players that season. He came a loooong way in a short time
We are pretty quick to give up on OL but we’ve seen a lot of guys that were afterthoughts finish pretty well

Gall, Ben Jones, Wheeler etc

Curious to see how this line continues to improve

Thank u; ppl r misremembering that game. Richt called a very conservative game plan & Kaaya literally had no running game help, yet Richt kept calling running plays. It’s like when we got the lead, the game plan was called to hold on to the lead vs winning the game. He was trying to treat us like he had Michel & Chubb in the back field. Walton had a good season, a really good season…but that 4 game stretch, both he & Yearby were massively ineffective. Yes, Kaaya threw a horrible pick; but we were stalling a lot b/c we took our foot off the gas

Richt's game plan was definitely conservative. That's his MO

Walton was ineffective, but Yearby played really well. Yearby clearly outplayed Walton in the first 4 ACC games in 2016.

Richt had a irrational love for Walton though. Yearby's 6.3 ypc was no match for Walton's 3.2 ypc. Way to ride the hot hand......

Richt’s scheme play calling. If we ran the offense all season we ran from Pitt on we are 10-2 minimum.

We definitely beat the garbage Norte Dame team and North Carolina. We may have taken down FSU. The defense was hurting bad V tech but maybe make it a shoot out? Richt had a terrible gameplan facing Bud Foster’s blitz.

What happened is we got Richted...

We lost the FSU game we should've won due to Special Teams & then started the classic 4 game Richt slide. His teams here at Miami always teetered-tottered & never played consistently when it mattered most.

The Offensive line was abysmal, Seashells had Nick Linder at Center & he was literally doing the splits vs Va Tech, then KC McDermott was also a disaster at LG. The entire line played musical chairs...

The UNC game was a horrendous foreshadowing of what the Richt Offense would eventually become. We couldn’t move the ball & every offensive drive we had stalled out that game, only scored 13 points.

During the 4 game losing streak the Offense was struck with 3 out disease, extremely pedestrian subpar playcalling from Richt & failure to utilize the strengths of the team.

Then of course the Notre Dame game... Eventually Seashells figured out that Gall/Gauthier needed to be injected in the OL in order for us to actually move the ball.

Then for Pitt, UVA, NC St, Duke & West Va Richt finally decided to realize that Kaaya hated the RPO & played more no huddle uptempo which lead to the Offense playing up to their capabilities, putting the ball in Ahmmon's hands more often & using Njoku a lot more.

Vs UVA, NC St & Duke the Defense got it's confidence back & was playing at a high level as well, Malek Young also came on late towards the end of the season & showed flashes of how good he would be giving us a preview of his 2017 season.
If I read this I could have saved my post 😂😂😂

Now post the rest of the season stats.

After the Richt induced 4 game skid, Walton had 3 straight 100 yd games with good ypc. He ran for 4.6 ypc against Duke, but they always sellout to stop the run. We TORCHED them through the air in 2016 and 2017. We didn’t run much in the bowl. Kaaya got that one.

No question Walton was better over the 2nd half. But Walton also put up bigger numbers in part because Richt stopped giving Yearby carries.

The gap between Walton & Yearby wasn't as big over the 2nd half as it was the 1st half. Overall Yearby was still better

YPC in 10 P5 games:
First 4
- Walton 3.1, Yearby 6.3 - Yearby +3.2
Last 6
- Walton 5.3, Yearby 4.0 - Walton +1.3
All 10
- Walton 4.4, Yearby 5.3 - Yearby +0.9

Pitt (and Duke if you're being generous) is the 1 game where Walton had a good YPC and Yearby didn't. Yearby did & Walton didn't vs GT, UNC, VT, WVU

Duke didn't sell out to stop the run. Gus went 11-55 5.0 ypc in 2016. Homer went 3-43 14.3 ypc in 2017. Yearby had 1 carry in 2016, so hard to count that

I'm fine saying Walton is better than Yearby - IMO it's a matter of preference. The argument falls apart when saying Walton was better by a wide margin.

It was the same story throughout the Mark Richt and Manny Diaz era's almost every game came down to the end/one score, the good years we would win them (2017, 2020) thw bad years we would lose them

QB and OL are your two most important position and they were weak at both with a horrible QB coach who should have been coaching HS.
