i thought he was a good on field coach.

for WR, just overpay and call it a day. you don't need insane recruiters anymore. rather have a quality developmental coach over a recruiter
If this were true we would have a stacked WR room which would include JS.......................Sadly, recruits do not want to trust their futures to Beard even if it means taking a little less....................

Elite human being, Elite mentor, Elite relationship builder, Elite teacher, learning how to SELL (CLOSE) - if your in SALES, this is the most difficult thing to master, takes time. ESPECIALLY if it is something that does not come naturally. Recruiting is SALES 101. For those in sales, you know what I am talking about. KB is the type of salesman who sells through relationships. Not the type that is a bird dog, hunter / closer type. Personally, I can live with KB. The perception that he cant recruit and that he is responsible for the loss of high profile recruits is nonsense. The entire program is responsible for loosing out on high profile recruits, we have to WIN to be able to SELL. At that point, anyone can SELL. All you do is point to success and the rest is taken care of. Almost like when we were winning National Championships...

He’s got a tough task… he’s asked to bring in high end guys and going against coaches and offensive systems that have been WR centric and known for putting guys in the first round. Being intentional about getting guys the ball.

Gotta break the seal with that… once we get one 1st rounder then we can start beating out these other school for the “high end” talent.

When I watched Ohio State play they had the ability to run the ball just as effectively as we did/do. JS played with other WRs who have high draft grades… but they were still intentional with him and I believe that’s what the kids care about. And until we show a commitment to showcasing pass catchers it’s going to be tough to beat those other teams out.

Look at Arroyo… from a talent standpoint he was absolutely good enough to win the Mackey. What we did offensively he “could” have put up better numbers than he did… that wasn’t our philosophy. And Dawson commented to that after the season.

Our best receiver just went undrafted… what’s the sell? What do we tell recruits to get them to come here if the money is the same?

WRs more than anybody else care about that stuff.

He gets a lot of heat because he tends to miss on the local elite kid every year (Jeremiah Smith, Brandon Innis) but he’s pulled a bunch of really highly rated kids. Including last year’s top local kid, Josh Moore. Receiver recruiting has far outpaced almost every other position on the roster, especially DB, LB and QB and the players have produced on the field. So, I don’t really get the hate. If the receivers play well this year and he manages to land Keys or Russell, I don’t think anyone can *****. If he misses on those guys and nobody in this receiver group stands out, he could be in hot water.
