Why is everyone in the media saying how impressed they were with Carr on Sunday? His final stat line looks fine but he had 86 yards entering the 4th qtr. We went to softer coverages with a 21-7 lead where he put together 1 drive, then got 65 yards on a busted coverage. Anyway on to Bethune

For a freshman, he got up everytime we hit him, and he never gave up. He brought them back to a tie game with 5 minutes to go. Those are admirable traits, regardless of outcome or stats.

He showed a lot of poise for a first time starter. Especially considering his OL and running game weren't playing great.
The play he made on the TD was great. He's more mobile than I expected.
But the majority of his throws were screens and wide open passes into ridiculously soft coverage.
Once the pocket condensed, he didn't have much of a plan and that'll be the challenge moving forward. They're going to have to use the quick game and PA in order to make him comfortable.

This. Compare his reactions and composure to say...Arch and yes he was impressive. The TD pass on the extended play is impressive.

He was definitely poised. That said, the bulk of his completions were screen passes that most on this board could likely complete and his running yardage was pretty cheap runs up the middle so the praise is a little overboard too but the dude did hang in there so I'll give him credit in that regard.

We shut down our entire operation on both sides of ball, I know the big bust was what everyone remembers but there was a 10 yard hitch where we had a corner like 20 yards deep and nobody underneath. There wasnt anyone within 10 yards, we basically prevent and conceded the entire drive at that point.

We really just wanted to stop playing football. 4 minunte offense and prevent on defense for entire 4th qtr. is insane.

I thought he played well considering the circumstances: first start, away, big stage. Can't ask for much more if you're ND. Trenches is where they lost the game.

Freshman QB in hostile environment where his oline was bullied and still almost won the game. I would think that's why.

TBH I would rather this. Once we beat them IDGAF what happens to em but if Carr was god awful, the story would be the canes still suck and an awful QB was the reason we won. I would rather there be some excitement around him and he goes on to have a good year and people look back at this as a marquee win.

As an aside I was impressed with him. I thought he would look more like Arch out there, lights too bright for him, he got hit hard a few times too and he never waivered and I will call it as I see it the no look pass was pretty slick which I missed live and didnt realize until I saw highlights. He played good, we played better. Plenty of UM praise going around right now.

From everything I’ve seen, people are high on our defense. So I think it’s an indirect complimen.

In other words, the fact that he’s a freshman, made a few plays, scored three touchdowns, and left with his head still attached to his body is, in a certain way, impressive.

The narrative around CJ Carr reminds me of the narrative around Ryan Clement. He fought thru adversity and gave his team a chance to win. We said the same thing after the FSU game when Clement was sacked like 6 times.
But it was fool’s gold with Clement.
