CJ Carr named starting QB for Notre Dame

Regardless of who plays it’s a rich man’s Ga Tech team with QBs who we should expect do exactly what GT QBs could do. Perhaps they’ll be a little better, more likely they’ll be the same or a little worse than Haynes King since they’re not really dual threat running QBs.

Maybe this season our frickin DL and back seven can actually stop that crap. If they can, could be a blowout. If not we’re in for a long painful night where it comes down to the last series or two.

Notre Dame announced that redshirt freshman CJ Carr will be the starting quarterback for the opener against Miami.

The 6'3, 210-pound Carr is the grandson of famed Michigan coach Lloyd Carr. The Saline (Mich.) High product was ranked as the #6 quarterback out of high school and is considered more of a pocket passer than his primary competitor at QB, Kenny Minchey. He has yet to throw a pass in a college game.

Multiple reports indicated previously that Minchey was the favorite for the job, as Irish offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock had prior success with dual-threat QBs like Desmond Ridder, Jayden Daniels and Riley Leonard.

This allows them to take 1 or 2 Ls with these early games against Miami and aTm and then in December say "Look how much Carr has improved as the season went on, ND is a different team now and would win if they played again".

Y’all are falling for it.
Carr was good enough to beat out Angeli.
Angeli played really well when Leonard was out.
This isn’t a true freshman. So while he may not have any starts in p5 he’s traveled with the team and he has earned their confidence.
Minchey hs been in p5 for a few years and hasn’t shown any coaching staff that he can start.

Their oline and running game will be formidable and he will be able to make good throws if he has time.

If he was a true freshman then different story. But plenty of redshirt freshman have had success.
Let’s hope our defense has improved by a lot.

They lost at home to Northern Illinois last year and still got the benefit of the doubt. GTFOHWTBS

I thought Angeli left because he felt he wasn’t given a fair shot.

The nightmare RS FR I remember was Sam Bradford. I was still arrogant Canes fan in '07. I was thinking, this is just his second game ever. We're gonna win of course. And, oh boy.

I went back and looked at the stats-he was 19-25, but it felt like he completed every pass.

Fun fact: Graham Mertz was the highest rated QB recruit Wisconsin ever pulled. His 1st start at Wisconsin was 21-21 for 248 yds and 5 TDs. Was all down hill from there...

If you’re scared, just say you’re scared!

All kidding aside this is going to be a nasty environment for a first time starting QB

Fully aware Carr could be the goods but its not because some other dude had 44 passing yards in a game and transfered in the offseason.

I was lucky enough to be there in 2017.

I really hope all the lucky folks who get to go to this one show up with the same mindset the fan base had that night.

To a man/woman those who were there will say it was the closest thing to the real deal since the early 2000s.

Embrace that identity. The fans who are going need to show up knowing you can have one of the greatest Hurricane experiences of your life if you just do your part and behave like a raging lunatic for 90 minutes or so.

Reading the tea leaves . . . ND's offense is pretty conservative. I assume that they were scared of Minchey and the potential for turnovers. I assume Carr is more conservative and likely won't make a bad mistake.
Carr was heavy favorite goin into camp, first day he throws 3 picks and been throwing picks all camp.. that is main reason it became a battle.. it was always his job to lose and last scrimmage he threw 2 more picks and all their media up to yesterday thought other kid won job..

Carr is more high risk, he has talent and likes to go for big play, he makes them also but gets over aggressive and turns it over at this point in career. I don't know where u got conservative play from him.. that is not what I have seen thru camp from their guys
