Quite frankly, he’s his own worst enemy. His constant boasting about everything he’s done, has, seen, and eaten is way better than anyone else’s coupled with his eat an aids infected **** responses exacerbates situations and illicit the responses he receives.

Personally, I like the guy but he contributes mightily to his own demise.

And, respectfully, who gives a ****? So the guy "boasts". Why do we care so much that a guy is willing to talk about his life, what he likes to do, things he has experienced?

That doesn't make someone "his own worst enemy". And there is no license or need for certain porsters to "keep it real" by constantly insulting and belittling certain posters just because they have bigger personalities than others.

It's time to just be honest. We know that this board has plenty of trolls and instigators. That doesn't mean that the trolls should be able to incite nonsense and then act like they are innocent virgins.

Send the trolls and instigators to Purgatory. **** 'em. Let the trolls fight each other in a padded internet room.
 
This is not directed at any single poster here, just the subject in general.

Directly under every single post there's a link to report the post to mods.

It would be nice if people used that every once in a while instead of claiming the mods don't take action while bragging that they're not snitches.

You’re not wrong about the ******** on here but he needs to stop taking the bait every time and also legitimate disagreements with an explanation about things, for instance why Butch’s term came to an end in his recent go-around, doesn’t warrant the “**** you eat a ****” type outbursts we saw and have been seeing increasingly lately.

Yes. Sorry, did not intend any infringement, but you are completely correct.

I understand that people will disagree. I just want to address the chronic incitement and trolling that we see from certain porsters.
 
Fact of the day: Mamaguevo is a term of endearment. Generally, the term is used when speaking highly of someone.

For example, My cousin Jeff is brilliant. That mamaguevo graduated with honors.

So next time you are conversing with a Spanish speaking person, consider using the term, "mamaguevo."

They will be impressed!

I don’t give a ****. It’s no sweat off my *** one way or another. On the rare occasion another poster comes at me, my responses are measured with intelligent rebuttals void of elementary school name calling. In doing so, the situations never escalate to threats of kicking someone’s *** at a dive restaurant in the Grove.

No worries. I wasn't trying to take credit. Just pointing out that the maudes do see what you see. There is a segment of this board that just loves to troll and flame nonstop. CIO makes an easy target for those types because he's full of personality, wears his heart on his sleeve, loves UM, and isn't afraid to share honest parts of his life with the (mostly anonymous) board. Personally, I find those traits admirable and endearing, and he's one of the people on this board I'd be happy to share a beer with.

I just wish he'd be more measured with his responses. There are times people try to engage him in honest discussion and he responds to them with the same vitriol that he uses for the trolls, knuckleheads, and flamers. There's no call for that. Not sure if it's a bit of CIS PTSD (somewhat understandable, given how many people come at him), but it generally results in a lot of extra work for us maudes.

I hear ya. I definitely would like for him to be more chill about responding, but EVEN IF HE WAS, we would still have instigators and trolls. I don't think those guys would disappear even if SWFL suddenly started to roll over and play nice every time.

There are two components here. One is that SWFL posts what he posts. You and I know he shares a lot of personal info. And this board should welcome that, it's fun, it's what keeps people reading and responding and interacting.

The other component is how "negative people" respond to "everything that is different from them". That can be legit stuff like "I disagree with this hiring decision" to petty personal stuff like "I feel the need to deflate anyone and everyone that I don't like who talks about interesting life stories such as jobs and hobbies and geography AND that has any sort of opinion on those topics".

Don't get me wrong, it's all a fair debate, we SHOULD be able to have conversations. But the trolls/instigators have long ago veered from subtle mocking to very personal and very insulting methods if belittling posters WHEN THE DISAGREEMENT IS NOT ABOUT SUBSTANCE, BUT ABOUT STYLE. People who don't like SWFL's STYLE can simply ignore him or not read his posts. He is not saying anything that is factually wrong. But to give him a hard time because he disclosed the price of condos in Sarasota is just ridiculous. The "mock-outraged" are actually pretending that SWFL is "bragging", when he is simply talking matter-of-factly about things that are easily verified on Zillow. So why are these mock-outraged posters so motivated to act as non-moderator regulators of SWFL's tone and style, to the point where they intentionally start fights with him?

It's just strange. And I think a fine line can be drawn and/or walked. People with a history of antagonism towards one or more posters that is NOT based on specific fact-based disagreements can be offered the Purgatory and/or mutual ignore options. Let all the porsters who are mock-offended by SWFL's discussions of food and Butch and artifact-hunting to NEVER have to see SWFL's posts again. And, I daresay, it would also allow SWFL not to have to respond to those who insult him.

Win-win.

Yes and no. A lot of it is trollish ******** who look for it with him but there’s a portion of it, like @No_Fly_Zone said, who are trying to engage in legit discussions with him and he savages them too.

In fairness, I do not believe there was ever a threat of kicking someone else's *** (and I could be wrong, I'd never deny screenshot evidence), it was just an offer to meet up for discussion.

And I don't think Titanic is a dive restaurant in the Grove.

Fair. There may be some PTSD that has developed over 25 years of posting.

Heck, he even corrects me on some stuff sometimes, and you know I'm (trying to be) sarcastic about 95% of the time.

I was just pointing out that even if SWFL turned into a "nice guy" in every response, the trolls will either still attack him or move on to another target.
