Cignetti Signs with IU Through 2033

A Head Coach getting fired must be a bat signal for agents.

I bet they ring up their client within 5 minutes of finding out and work out whether they want them to find out about the new vacancy or simply use it as leverage to get them a raise. It's like clockwork.

Didn’t think he was leaving IU to begin with, but him being definitely off the market shakes things up in the CFB job market, especially for Penn State.

Who’s next to get an extension?

With Penn State being the job, my guess is at least 2-3 more. The one that doesn’t get it might be the guy:

- Rhule
- Drinkwater
- Campbell
- Freeman
- Kiffin
- Schiano (dark horse candidate - he’s a PSU guy as well).
- Insert coach name here …….

They're gonna get stuck with Manny lmao

Rhule will get one. Just with the PSU letterhead.

Oh Rhule will absolutely use this to his advantage - he'll either be at Penn St or getting a pay rise at Nebraska. The rat.

That’s crazy. I get that you don’t wanna lose your coach, but there’s no way he’s worth that unless they make a run in the CFP.
For some reason, I’m just not a believer and he or Indiana.
Is it the school being Indiana? Because if you dig into his history the guy has taken a loser and built them into a champion level program every single stop in his career. In year 1 he had Indiana in the playoff and now in year 2 they look to be even better. He’s got more top 10 wins so far at Indiana than Franklin had his entire tenure at PSU. Cignetti is a **** good coach

Probably so. He’s definitely won wherever he’s at. I’m interested is seeing how the rest of the season plays out.

How much is his buyout? 8 years and over $90M likely means a pretty hefty buyout. I know this man is getting slurped more than a Tootsie Roll Pop on this board right now, but it is 100% possible that in a year or two Indiana regresses to the mean. Could Cignetti have turned the Hoosiers into a top tier football program in less than two seasons? Sure, it's possible. Thing is, how many other times in the last 50 years has a perennial underachiever made a turnaround like this AND had it be lasting? I can't think of any. Typically some loser team will make a run for a year or two then regress to the mean. Mark Mangino (if you haven't seen it, google his name with "Obie" next to it - thank me later) at Kansas comes to mind. He had a 12-1 season and two season later was gone. 50-48 career record there. Sonny Dykes sure was pointed at a LOT at the beginning of Mario's tenure. Now, crickets.
Am I glad that there's another team in the B1G to compete? Sure am. Do I think Cignetti is a good coach? Yes, I'm just not a slurper and I think in time we will find out that Indiana is still a basketball first school.
