Cignetti Signs with IU Through 2033

Kinda crazy this guy spent 12 years at IUP, Elon and James Madison after being the WR/RC under Saban at Bama for three years. You’d think he would have ascended quicker.
It’s kind of an old boys club

To me the perfect person would be Al Golden. The only reason Golden failed at UM was due to his loyalty to Mark D’Onfrio.

Dude killed a promising career at UM over his friend. I can understand looking out for his friend and bringing him on as a position coach but never a DC.
He knew he would leave at some point. He was mad they lied to him about the Shapiro stuff and just stole money with his friend

They have 1 starting SO and 2 starting JR'S on D. Every other starter on the team is either a RS JR or a S. 8 starters are RS S's. We will see if he can rebuild a competitive team next season. They obviously want vets and have been excellent a evals. I thought their is no way he returns. Good for them, he is obviously a great coach. They had to roll the dice with that contract. Take the good with the bad, he is a grouch who can't keep his foot out of his mouth. Like Fran, I would steer him away from camera's and microphones.

How much is his buyout? 8 years and over $90M likely means a pretty hefty buyout. I know this man is getting slurped more than a Tootsie Roll Pop on this board right now, but it is 100% possible that in a year or two Indiana regresses to the mean. Could Cignetti have turned the Hoosiers into a top tier football program in less than two seasons? Sure, it's possible. Thing is, how many other times in the last 50 years has a perennial underachiever made a turnaround like this AND had it be lasting? I can't think of any. Typically some loser team will make a run for a year or two then regress to the mean. Mark Mangino (if you haven't seen it, google his name with "Obie" next to it - thank me later) at Kansas comes to mind. He had a 12-1 season and two season later was gone. 50-48 career record there. Sonny Dykes sure was pointed at a LOT at the beginning of Mario's tenure. Now, crickets.
Am I glad that there's another team in the B1G to compete? Sure am. Do I think Cignetti is a good coach? Yes, I'm just not a slurper and I think in time we will find out that Indiana is still a basketball first school.
I believe when rev share kicks in, it’ll help him sustain. There’s gonna be guys who are asked to take pay cuts and top end talent will likely disperse even more. Having a really good coach who doesn’t need a roster full of elite talent to win, is a safe bet.

Just like PJ Fleck at Minnesota a few years ago. They had a good couple of years and he was anointed the next Saban. Now back to reality.

Hard to sustain success year in, year out.
You are living in the past. No reason Indiana can't sustain success. BIG 10 $ and win and they can sustain it because they aren't dinosaurs and have shown good portal use.

I don't know if this is where the fever breaks in CFB, but this is absolute MADNESS.

Historians will point to this moment as a key point (of many) where CFB collapsed upon itself.

I believe he'll be 71 at tbe end of contract.

Gee Adam that is some reporting. That's what a 10 year contract is. Contrast it with Bellyache's 5 year deal which was really 3@ $10 per year with no obligation by either party for years 4 or 5.

IF Santo Mario get Miami to:

- ACCCG...extension?
- ACCCG W...extension?
- CFPO appearance...extension?
- CFPO W...extension?
- Natty game appearance...extension?
- Hoist the Natty...extension?

None of the above until Y6?
Lol Mario will be extended no matter what unless the world ceases to exist.

None until Y6. Where is he going that Miami would need to lock him up?
