I was Pearson 7th floor in the early 90's when they first incorporated young football players into the dorms rather than having separate athletic housing. They had to send maintenance guys up to redo the bathroom because Ricky Perry couldn't fit in the shower.
Back in "the day" I rented a really nice 3/2 house on a street one block north of the Pike house that was so close to campus that I could probably throw a football and have it land on the IM fields or tennis courts and people would actually toss me cash to park in my driveway for classes.
Haha. I still remember my 6'8'' suitemate breaking the **** toilet while I was out in the Grove, and me coming home to a note saying "I don't know what to do, but whatever you do, please don't go in the bathroom". I called Unicco, and ended up crashing in my RAs room(She was super cool, and...)
I lived in Mahoney before it was a residential college then in the on campus apartments which i dont think are there anymore.
****. That's crazy. I came in with AP credits, but I was able to get them to pay for 5 years, because I went for a BS/BA. I think that Shalala eventually made it to where scholarships were guaranteed for 5 years, provided you were making progress towards a degree. Then again, they stopped taking certain AP credits(I'm still ****ed that I had to take Calc, despite getting a 4 on the AP exam), to force kids to take certain classes.Loved my time in the towers but I basically got “priced out” of the U after 3 years. I made the mistake of entering the U with 60 credits as a freshman. In retrospect, I should have elected not to transfer any of those credits earned during high school. The arts and sciences counselor informed me in beginning of my junior year that my scholarship will end after year 3 because I’ll have 150 credits by then. Was basically forced to graduate early.
The apartment area was turned into offices and whatnot. When I first got to campus, the AA was slowly dying, once UV opened, it was all over. That said, my first college party was at my Orientation Assistant's AA pad after orientation.
I havet been on campus since 2014. Even since then it looks totally different.
It's crazy. I remember hitting campus in 2019 and being shocked that so much had changed. It's a different vibe on campus now. I get that things had to change, but it just doesn't feel the same. It's almost like a glorified shopping plaza in some places, it's almost too nice, too sterile.
Totally get it. I went to the "new" Rat and felt out of place. The old Rat was rough around the edges kind of like the OB was. I know things change but I wouldnt trade my time there for anything.
Same here. The old Rat was dumpy, but that was part of what made it fun. It was dark, it smelled like stale beer and ***, but there was no place I'd rather be an hour before a big test, sharing a pitcher with some friends, dealing with my test anxiety. Campus is beautiful, always has been, always will be.
Craft beers and clean restrooms just made me feel out of place.
The new Rat is just WAY too bright. A campus bar shouldn't look like a fancy cafe. Don't get me wrong, it's really nice, but a campus bar shouldn't be that nice. The old Rat was infinitely more fun.
Someone should start an Old Rat thread... or maybe not ha.
Do they even have any more? By the time I was in grad school 90's, thursday nights at the Rat were on the decline.
Tavern Feet is a real thing. You couldn't pay me to wear flip flops in that place. Tavern ruined a pair of Concords, in 1 night. I didn't think I was going to end up at Tavern, but sometimes you have to do what you have to do to close a deal.
