Check out these incredible new photos of UM

I'm still amazed that I was able to turn in my housing deposit late and still get my first choice. All my first year friends was stuck living in the towers, I was living in relative luxury in 711 Pearson!*

*And yes, I was there in 2004-2005, so I heard the 7th Floor Crew rap MONTHS before ESPN got their grubby hands on it. My suitemates were basketball student athletes and they had it.
I was Pearson 7th floor in the early 90's when they first incorporated young football players into the dorms rather than having separate athletic housing. They had to send maintenance guys up to redo the bathroom because Ricky Perry couldn't fit in the shower.

Try living off campus these days.
Back in "the day" I rented a really nice 3/2 house on a street one block north of the Pike house that was so close to campus that I could probably throw a football and have it land on the IM fields or tennis courts and people would actually toss me cash to park in my driveway for classes.

I paid $1650 a month and utilities were included. Can't even imagine what it would go for today.

Was in one of the towers in 1993 (the male grad floor - 12, I think). They were dumpy then, but I loved dorm life. Always someone to do stuff with. But not the cost. Moved to Sobe for the second year splitting an apt with two others for $250 a piece. Man, good times . . . . .

Haha. I still remember my 6'8'' suitemate breaking the **** toilet while I was out in the Grove, and me coming home to a note saying "I don't know what to do, but whatever you do, please don't go in the bathroom". I called Unicco, and ended up crashing in my RAs room(She was super cool, and...)

I loved living in the dorms, especially being a freshman living on a floor with upperclassmen. The guys across the hall adopted me like I was their little brother. The first time I went to the Grove(I was 17, I hadn't even turned 18 as a freshman), they took me, I didn't need a fake ID because I was with them and didn't act like an idiot at Sandbar or Tavern(I've always been a person that knew my limit in regards to booze). Still remember playing NCAA 2005, with my door open(I was a freshman and thought that was how things were done) and having John Square come in and play a couple of games, he was a beast and taught me some crazy stuff about user catches. Still remember Pitbull(Back when he had those awful cornrows) hanging out on the floor, and passing out flyers to his shows and pushing his M.I.A.M.I album.

Now I feel old as ****.

Loved my time in the towers but I basically got “priced out” of the U after 3 years. I made the mistake of entering the U with 60 credits as a freshman. In retrospect, I should have elected not to transfer any of those credits earned during high school. The arts and sciences counselor informed me in beginning of my junior year that my scholarship will end after year 3 because I’ll have 150 credits by then. Was basically forced to graduate early. 😔

****. That's crazy. I came in with AP credits, but I was able to get them to pay for 5 years, because I went for a BS/BA. I think that Shalala eventually made it to where scholarships were guaranteed for 5 years, provided you were making progress towards a degree. Then again, they stopped taking certain AP credits(I'm still ****ed that I had to take Calc, despite getting a 4 on the AP exam), to force kids to take certain classes.

I lived in Mahoney before it was a residential college then in the on campus apartments which i dont think are there anymore.
The apartment area was turned into offices and whatnot. When I first got to campus, the AA was slowly dying, once UV opened, it was all over. That said, my first college party was at my Orientation Assistant's AA pad after orientation.

I havet been on campus since 2014. Even since then it looks totally different.

It's crazy. I remember hitting campus in 2019 and being shocked that so much had changed. It's a different vibe on campus now. I get that things had to change, but it just doesn't feel the same. It's almost like a glorified shopping plaza in some places, it's almost too nice, too sterile.

Totally get it. I went to the "new" Rat and felt out of place. The old Rat was rough around the edges kind of like the OB was. I know things change but I wouldnt trade my time there for anything.

Same here. The old Rat was dumpy, but that was part of what made it fun. It was dark, it smelled like stale beer and ***, but there was no place I'd rather be an hour before a big test, sharing a pitcher with some friends, dealing with my test anxiety. Campus is beautiful, always has been, always will be.

Craft beers and clean restrooms just made me feel out of place.

Towers will be razed but COVID has pushed back the demolition. The rooms were needed last year to give students single rooms. Not sure what the timetable is now.

Mahoney-Pearson won't be totally demolished - just an interior facelift and update. They are "historic" or something like that so they cannot get rid of them entirely. They were last on the list of projects, anyway..

Anybody that ever took a shower in the towers has a lifetime natural immunity to da Rona, Ebola, Mad Cow Disease, Sickle Cell Anemia, Hep B & Prostate Cancer. If you took a shower in the towers AND ever wore flip flops to bathroom in The Tavern then you can basically eat asbestos soaked in AIDS blood and you wouldn't even get the sniffles.
Tavern Feet is a real thing. You couldn't pay me to wear flip flops in that place. Tavern ruined a pair of Concords, in 1 night. I didn't think I was going to end up at Tavern, but sometimes you have to do what you have to do to close a deal.
