Key:
SG-shot gun,
11 personnel = 1 RB, 1 TE, 3 WR
Hash: L-left, M-middle, R-right

1st qtr
Hash Down & Distance Yd Line Formation & Play
L 1 & 10 50 SG- 11 personnel RB offset to the right of QB (82,8,23,4). TE inline to the left (beside the LT) Buck sweep (pulled 73 &74) Left (short side of field) 82 misses block 24 gets tackled in the backfield for minus 2

L 2 & 12 -48 SG- 11 personnel RB offset to the left of QB (82, 23, 8, 4) TE inline to the right (beside the RT) Power right (LG pulls right, RG and RT block down) 62 lets DT cross his face and 23 gets jacked by DE causes RB to slow down. 73 gets stone walled in hole by LB. 24 gets tackled for a 2 yard gain.

M 3 & 10 50 SG-11 personnel RB offeset to the left of QB (82, 23, 8, 4) TE inline to the right. Pass play. Clean pocket. 12 throws 15 yard dig to 8 incomplete. 8 not open (82 runs 18 yard comeback 4 Runs post. 23 blocks) defense shows blitz before dropping 8. Defense is in Cover 4 (4 underneath zones,4 deep zones) Literally like 5 people within 5 yards of 8. 82's comeback breaks open late. 4's post is a TD (both safeties jumped the dig) if Rosier is patient and see's it. Great play call and design (dig brings up the safeties, post breaks open behind it) Bad read by 12.

4 & 10 50 PUNT

R 1 & 10 -6 SG- 11 personnel full spread (RB lined up in the slot to the left) (4, 8, 24, 23, 82) Offsides defense

R 1 & 5 -11 SG- 11 personnel full spread (RB lined up in the slot to the left) 5yard dig to 24, 40 yards (nice pick by the ref) defense is in man w/ single high safety and rushes 5 with a T/E stunt. gets home on T/E stunt. 4 runs a go route, maybe its a comeback, its hard to see. 8 runs a seam, 23 runs a seam, 82 quick out (5 yards)

R 1 & 10 49 SG-11 personnel spread (2 WR outside, 2 in the slot) RB to the Right of QB(4,8,23,82) 4 runs a
5 yard dig, 8 runs 12 yard corner, 23 runs a 12 yard corner, 82 5 yard hitch. play action pass Rosier pumps left and then tucks and scrambles for 7. 4 was breaking wide open on the dig (he carries it across the field) pocket was holding but shrinking. defense in a soft Cover 2 or Cover 4.

R 2 & 3 42 SG-11 personnel spread RB offset to QB right (4,8,23,82) Offsides defense

R 1 & 10 37 SG-11 personnel spread RB offset to QB right (4,8,23,82) Play action pass. Threw go route to 4, incomplete. 8 ran a whip (starts to run a slant before stopping and breaking it back into an out), 23 ran a whip, 82 ran a go. Defense in Cover 4. 74 beat for the pressure. 82 may have been open hard to see with camera. 8 was breaking wide open.

R 2 & 10 37 SG- 11 personnel trips left (4,8,23) RB offset to the right of the QB. 82 on the backside. HB screen bad throw, incomplete. Defense sent 5 and played man behind it. Play was wide open

R 3 & 10 37 SG- 11 personnel trips left (4,8,23) RB offset to the right of the QB. 82 on the backside. 23 ran bubble, everyone else blocked, Rosier runs for 1. Looks like a design QB draw. Defense brought 6 (no disguise), Missed facemask call.

R 4 & 9 36 missed field goal

L 1 & 10 25 SG- 11 personnel spread RB(13) offset to QB left(82,23,8,84) Sheriffs in, throws bubble to 8, 84 misses block, no gain.

R 2 & 10 25 SG- 11 personnel full spread (RB lined up in the slot to the right) (84, 8, 23,13, 82) Sheriffs in.
ball batted down by DL. 4 ran a go (maybe hard to see) 8 quick out, 23 quick out, 13 slant, 82 slant. (looks like the stick play out of 5WR for anybody who plays madden) Pass batted down by DL. 78 walked back into QB lap and his man bats it down. Defense in Man 2 deep. Looks like sheriffs was throwing the 2nd slant to 82 and used 13's slant to clear it out. looks like great coverage, possible a int

R 3 & 10 25 SG- 11 personnel trips left (84,8,23) RB(13) offset to QB right. 82 on the backside. Sheriffs in. 8 runs quick in, 13 and OL both slides right, DE comes free, 16 escapes out to the left. bad pass incomplete. Looks like 13 blocked the wrong way. couldn't see the other WR routes as the camera zoomed in on the pressure. 13 did hustle back to hit the DE after 16 spins out of trouble. We punt on 4th down.

We got 3 drives in the 1st quarter. Richt made some great play calls a few questions, some at the same time. for example, liked the buck sweep (homer seems to run this play well) however running it to the short side of the field is a weird choice. 3 straight passes with Sheriffs in cold off the bench is questionable as well. However the double slant call vs man is a good choice. quick throw protects oline and easy throw for backup QB however RT gets blown up and WRs didn't win vs man coverage. also like the dig/post combo vs Cover 4 as safties will almost always bite on the 15 yard dig and not see the post from the outside WR coming. also maxed protected (RB and TE stayed in to block) to give it time to develop. Rosier must have thought he could fit it in a really tight window.

Not a lot of variety as far as personnel or alignment. Strictly shotgun, strictly 11 personnel. Only 3 drives so not an end all be all by any stretch of the imagination but I came away thinking that:

Richt play calls was better than I expected (Id say B+ in the 1st qtr)
Formation/Personnel/Variations was poor as I expected

Offense should have at least had 10 points (the post to 4 instead of throwing the dig to 8) and if the facemask is called, even if we don't get another yard badgley likely makes a 39ish yard field goal.

Also watching these plays over and over again. OL technique is terrible. Hand placement, balance, knee bend, leaning/lunging. Its bad man. We also are bad recognizing and picking up d-line stunts. some of that is coachable some of it isn't but we should be better there than we are, if with a true freshman Guard

2nd qtr
1 & 10 -20 SG- 11 personnel spread (82, 23, 8, 4) RB(24) offset to QB right 82 12 yard dig, 23 runs bubble, 8 runs slant, 4 runs 12 to 10 hitch, 24 swings out into flats to the right. Rosier throws the slant to 8 low, 8 makes a great catch for 12. It was a great adjustment by 8 who broke up the field instead of across it reading the defense. 12 seems to read it as well, however the pass wasn't where he wanted it. Defense was in an interesting look. Everybody played cover 2 except the CB on 4 who played press man. Nobody was open

1 & 10 -32 SG- 11 personnel TE(23) inline on the left, RB(24) offset to the QB right. 82 is on the backside, 8 is slot, 4 is wide right. we run inside zone, 12 holds it like it’s a read but no defender is left unblocked to read. He's looking left but 82 doesn't run anything quick may. Defense is in nickel, 2 deep safety. Appears to be man. Looks like the perfect offensive playcall except 23 gets beat bad inside by the DE who makes the tackle after a 3 yard gain. Hole was big and 52 and 74 made it to the 2nd level and had hats on the LBs. Potential big run

2 & 7 - 35 SG- 11 personnel spread (82, 23, 8, 4) RB(24) offset to QB left Man this one hurts. 82 runs a 12 yard hitch, 23 quick slant, 8 runs a bubble, 4 runs a 10 yard dig. 24 leaks into flats to the left. Defense is in man single high, walks the FS down late toward 23. slot DB covering 23 blitzes. 12 throws the dig high and behind 4, incomplete. The LB and FS have a moments hesitation on who has 23 on the slant and 24 on the arrow in the flat. 23 is wide open with room the run. the dig to 4 is wide open as well, if he throws it lower and in front of 4 he likely scores a touchdown, only the single high safety was left and he took a bad angle and slipped.

3 & 7 -35 SG- 11 personnel full spread (82, 23, 24,8, 4) 82 runs a deep dig, 23 runs a wheel, 24 runs a 7 yard out, 8 runs a wheel, 4 runs a post. 12 throws the wheel to 8, incomplete. Offsetting penalties (holding on 74, PI on the defender on 8. Defense brings 5, plays man single high. Pass is most like caught if not for the PI. the our to 24 is the most open receiver, likely catches and runs for the first with an accurate pass. oline picks up the blitz fairly well. 74 is ran through and pulls the guy down as he's running past him. Down is replayed

3 & 7 -35 SG- 11 personnel trips right (82 on the backside, 23,8,4) RB (24) is offset to the QB left Holy **** we had a potential touchdown. 82 runs a c corner, 23 and 8 run slants, 4 runs a curl. 24 leaks into the left flats. 12 throws the slant to 8 low, 8 makes a great catch for a first down. Defense is in man single high. They have a CB in press on 82. a DB off the left side of the line showing blitz, a LB in the middle of the field, 3 DBs in front of the trips, with a 4 man line, and a single high safety. At the snap, the DB on the left side of the line blitzes as does the LB, they also stunt on the dline which does come free. they drop the left defensive end (lined up on the RT). Think about it, there is no one covering 24 in the flats. the only defenders on that side of the field is the CB checking 82 on the c-corner and the single high safety.

1 & 10 -44 SG- 11 personnel spread (4,8,23,82) RB(24) offset to QB right 4 runs a post, 8 runs a bubble, 23 runs a 3 yard hitch, 82 runs a 12 to 10 hitch. 12 throws to 82, incomplete. Tight coverage and the pass is inaccurate. Hard to tell what defense they were in. 4 man rush, underneath looks like it drops into a zone. could be a cover 4 look but the outside Cb (9) on 4 carries him on the post so it may have been some kind of man/zone combo. Ol held up well, clean but compressed pocket.

2 & 10 -44 SG- 11 personnel trips looks (4,8,23) with 23 lined up immediately to the left of the LT but 3 yards in the backfield.RB(24) offset to QB lef. 82 on the backside Definite RPO. 4 runs a go, 8 runs a bubble, 23 blocks, 82 runs a go. 12 pulls the run and throws the bubble to 8, FS makes a solid tackle for a 3 yard gain. Defense is in nickel, 4 man line, bouth outside corners in press look, SS at least 11 yards off ball (not in picture) FS is at 8 yards directly in front of 8 in the slot. MLB is in fron of center at 4 yards, weakside LB is 4 1/2 yards directly in front of TE. Nickelback is splitting the difference between 8 and 23. the FS at 7 yards directly over the slot as well as the press look outside should be an immediately alert for a blitz on the left side (nickleback does blitz at the snap) Technically there is 8 in the box but with the run play being an inside zone i don;t think the NB should count in the count. the line blocks inside zone very well and there is a clear hole with 74 and 23 in position to block the 2 LBs for a big gain but 12 pulls it and throws the bubble. Hard to fault the read based on pure numbers

3 & 7 -47 SG- 11 personnel TE(23) inline on the left, RB(24) offset to the QB left. 81 is wide left, 8 is slot right, 4 is wide right. 81 runs a 5 yard dig, 23 runs a corner (guess based on route combo and that fact that you can’t see him in the middle of the field. Could be a seam. 8 runs a seam, 4 runs a hitch right at the stick. 12 throws the hitch to 4 who is tackled inches from the first down. 4 could have ran the hitch past the first down so when he came back to the ball its still a first down. defense has 3 down lineman and 3 defenders crowding the lien showing blitz before dropping into cover 4.

4 & inches 46 I from- 12 personnel. 23 and 87 inline at TE. QB sneak for easy first down.

1 & 10 45 SG- 11 personnel TE(23) inline on the right RB(24) offset to the QB left. 84 is wide left, 8 is slot left, 82 is wide right. 84 ran what looks like a c-corner, 8 a 2 yard dig, 23 runs a arrow (straight to the flats), 82 runs a slant. 24 runs a swing out the backfield to the left. 12 throws the swing to 24, incomplete. 12 hits back foot and throws swing immediately even tho the defender is already closing on it (predetermined throw) 8 is open in middle of the field (would have been a short gain). defense has a 4 man line and drops into cover 4

2 & 10 45 SG- 11 personnel TE(23) inline on the right RB(24) offset to the QB left. 84 is wide left, 8 is slot left, 82 is wide right. we run power(pulled LG) right. Defense is in nickel (4 down linemen, 2 LBs at 5 yards) 2 deep safeties and a NB over the slot. Power should be blocked like so: LT kicks out DE, LG pulls right and hits the first person they see (should be one of the LBs), Center down blocks on backside DT, RG and RT should double team playside DT to generate movement and then one peels off to scraping LB, and TE kicks out playside DE. RB usually aims for B gap (between RG and RT). The LT, C, and TE all win clean. The double team (55 & 78) starts well and generates a few yards of movement on the DT. LG(73) pulls and hits the WLB in the C gap (between the RT and TE). He is way to high and doesn't generate a lot of push but he successfully shields the WLB out of the play. Now here is where things get tricky. The double team should drive the DT and read the 2nd LB. If he shoots A or B gap (inside) then 55 peels off and picks him up. If he goes wide to c gap then 78 peels off and thats his man. What actually happens: 55 pases the defender off to 78 so he can release to B gap and seal the MLB. However 24 is aiming toward c gap so the LB 55 expected to be in B gap is running wider to C gap. The DT getting double team is trying to get inside to A gap (between center and RG) fo 78 takes him that way and burries him. Now 55 has to work around the pile of 78 and the DT and try to get the LB looping the C gap and can't get there in time and he hits 24 for a 2 yard gain. the OL could have held the double team block longer and read it better so 78 can peel off to get the Lb easier but 24 also doesn't have good vision and its no doubt in my mind that Walton is more patient and gives 55 that extra half second to get the block on the LB and bust a big run.

3 & 8 43 SG- 11 personnel spread (84,8,23,82) RB(24) offset to QB left 84 and 8 couldn't see what they ran due to camera angle. 23 runs a wheel route, 82 runs a deep post. Hard to tell what the defense ran, looks like man 2 deep safeties out of nickel. 4 man line. 74 & 73 don’t pick up the T/E stunt and 74 gets beat and the defender knocks the pass down. Looks like 12 was throwing the post to 82

4 &8 punt

1 & 10 -25 SG- 11 personnel TE(23) inline on the right, RB(24) offset to the QB left. 82 is wide left, 8 is slot right, 4 is wide right. We run power right.52 wins, 74 wins, 23 wins. 62 & 78 get a very bad double team and get no push. Man 78 is not physical AT ALL and it shows so badly. 62 is over extended and gets face planted with a swim move. 73 pulls and is once again jacked up by the LB in the hole. too aggressive this time and gets too far out over his toes and loses balance on contact. the defender that beats 62 and the defender that beats 73 on the pull make the play.

2 & 8 -27 SG- 11 personnel TE(23) inline on the right, RB(32) offset to the QB left. 82 is wide left, 8 is slot right, 4? (hard to see the number) is wide right. pass. 82 runs a 6 yard hitch, 23 and 8 both run quick 5 yard outs. 4? Runs a go route. Defense is in nickel man 2 deep safeties. 12 hits his back foot and throws a the out to 23, defender makes a good play and knocks it down. 82 was open on the hitch on the backside. good protection by the oline. I won't fault 12 for looking for the TE in man

3rd & 8 -27 SG- 11 personnel trips right (82 on the backside, 23,8,4) RB (24) is offset to the QB right can't see what 82 runs. Looks like a go route. 23 runs an intermediate crossing route, 8 runs a 6 yard hitch, 4 runs a 19 yard dig. defense is in nickel, 4 man rush, drops into cover 4. good protection by the oline. 12 throws the dig to 4 low who makes a great catch for 17 yards and the first down. I wouldn’t consider this an inaccurate throw as if he hits 4 in stride the safety likely takes his head off.

1 & 10 -44 SG- 11 personnel TE(23) inline on the left, RB(24) offset to the QB right 4 is wide left, 8 is slot left, 82 is wide right. Pass. Can’t see what 4 and 8 run assumes its seams ans 23 and 24 stay in to max protect. 82 runs a sluggo (slant into go route double move. 12 throws to 82, overthrown incomplete. Overthrown, 82 had a step. Bad throw. Defense is in nickel, 4 man line, looks like man with 2 deep safety or a single high safety with a robber.

2 & 10 -44 SG- 11 personnel TE(23) inline on the right, RB(24) offset to the QB left 84 is wide left, 80 is slot left, 81 is wide right. *1st time not seeing 8 in the slot* **hint hint IT’S A RUN** we run power right, everyone wins except 62 who is beaten after the double team and gives up the tackle. 24 runs hard and turns it into a 5 yard gain

3 & 5 -49 SG- 11 personnel trips left (84,80,23) Rb off set to Qb right (24) 81 wide right 84 runs a 7 yard hitch , 80 runs a 5 yard dig, 23 runs a seam, 81 runs a quick slant, 24 runs an arrow into the flats. Defense is in nickel, 4 man line. man coverage with 2 deep safeties. 12 throws the seam to 23 who breaks a tackle and runs for the TD. Great ball placement by 12 to get it over the man coverage defender but also drop it in before the 2 safeties can close. 81 and 84 are also open for first downs. clean pocket by the oline.

Solid analysis.

First drive play 3 is the play that we scored the long TD on. I bet that was an adjustment during the half, but Malik almost made the wrong read again.

Also on the first play it was 73 that killed the play. 82 was driven back over 73 who was laying on the ground. On that play 73 managed to not block anyone, but take out 2 of our blockers.

As you see by your play charting that a lot of things are open, we just need some better decisions from our trigger man. Wait till you get to the second quarter and you'll really see some questionable decisions by our trigger man. However i think this is the worse he plays and he will be a gamer this week

I thank you for the play charting. Really shows that we have the guys running the routes we want and they're open, but we aren't throwing them the ball.

And this is why I regret Jerome Washington transferring, the TE's supposed to be the best blocker on the O-Line. Kid had a nice grab in the 15' FAU game, only never to be heard from again...SMH. And last I checked, He was the 2nd leading receiver on Rutger's squad.

Great write up.

I agree the clear cut weak link of this team is the offensive line.

I know it's easy to roast Searles. Maybe these guys just have bad habits from Kehoe, but at some point you wanna see some positive steps.

Do you have access to extra tape or are you just watching replay from TV?

recorded the tv broadcast. Would love to get my hands on some all 22 but...

On the 3rd play, IMO the post breaks open bc both S saw the ball was released. Their LBs got proper depth on their drops and we ran max protect.

Not a whole lot available to Rosier, a ball he probably needs to eat.

It was cover 4. Post Dig Combo is the JERK OFF call for a pure cover 4. Almost ensures the safety will come down on the dig if Malik uses his eyes to bring the safety to BB. Then just put a little air to the post on the throw, Thomas scores all day. You don't like what you see on that side of the field then throw the deep out to the top. It's there and he has all day with a clean pocket.

On the first play, Mahoney was the only OL that stayed engage and on his feet. Darling tried to cut block a LB vs driving him into the stands! That cut block took out Richards and Gaither.

On the second play, Mahoney's guy spins free but misses Homer. Darling takes on a LB and gets stoned! How the F does a 330lb moving LG not kill a 220LB? The real issue, Homer runs into the back of Darling and instead of stepping back or feeling the hole to the left he just keeps attempting to move forward. There was a hole to gain at least a few more yards with Tyree doing an ok job with the other LB.

Third play Rosier should have thrown deep to Thomas. At worst, over throw him!

No wonder we saw Gaynor taking a few snaps for Darling in the second half. Not saying Gaynor did tons better but they clearly are looking for answers.

These are NFL plays/throws you are asking Rosier to make. The out on that play has to be perfect or its getting pick 6'd

I don't disagree with what you say about the out route, but the throw to the post is an easy throw with a lot of field to work with
