Chantz is another guy who needs to take a step forward under the new staff. Last year was disappointing. He has always been a beast in the weight room and is already winning weekly awards this offseason. We need to get production out of a guy that big, fast and hard-working.

The best-case scenario comparison would be someone like Boye Mafe in Minnesota. Like Chantz, Mafe is raw and somewhat uncoordinated as a pass rusher and an edge-setter. He didn't do much his first two years, but got progressively better and emerged as a first-round prospect as a senior. Look at their high school numbers:

Chantz Williams- 6'3.5, 215, 4.56 forty, 4.49 shuttle, 35.9 inch vert
Boye Mafe- 6'3, 218, 4.95 forty, 4.75 shuttle, 32.2 vert

Hopefully the light bulb comes on… we need someone to get double digit sacks and apply that pressure…

I keep hearing mixed stories about this kids recruitment when he came out. I thought he was a big time get but other are saying he was lukewarm. I just remember him being a freak athlete at DE.

He flashed some last year but going into his 3rd year we need more then just flashes. We need a double digit sack guy.

He was inconsistent but thought he flashed more then our other DEs. We need him and Harvey to take a step forward
Agree. Also with a rotation of McCloud and Johnson in front of him last year as seniors he did not get many reps. WIll be interested to see how he does with added playing time because we do not have the depth at that position we are accustomed to.

Will be interesting to find out what DE coach will be working with him. Should know by late this week I imagine.

Where does Elijah Roberts factor in on the D-line?

Was just going to say they didn’t get him enough snaps last year. McCloud was decent but Johnson was a bum. This kid should have gotten way more snaps than him.

We need a big year from Chantz, I think that goes without saying.

Outside of Phillips and Rousseau, he's one of our most physically gifted edge players in 10 years(?).

Hope the fella can turn it up this year.

He made his plays by not giving up. But don’t know if he has the bend and moves in his ****nal to stand out alone. The DTs progress will play a huge role in his results this season. He is an athlete forsure tho so hoping for the best with him

Chantz was disappointing. Flashed some. Certainly has a motor and raw strength is a huge plus. Need to get this guy a DE coach who can equip him with some technique.

If he doesn't, Kelly and Moss are going to have to play....

Was he the guy that played both ways?
