Change is Gonna Come...

I’m still running with my understanding that baker isn’t going anywhere and what they came up with after UNC was a new co-dc - this was right after Banda got his job - and they were gonna fill his spot or Stroud with a guy that could bring a new perspective and make tweaks. I’ve not heard anything on baker since then.

So obviously things would be different if that changes.

A friend in agency has also not gotten any wind of a change coming and they’re usually first to know or know when there’s smoke and he’s said nothing.

Sounds like Baker is at the very least getting demoted and won't be calling plays next year. That's a big win in my book. I assumed that Diaz would want to keep one of either Patke or Baker around as his consigliere. Personally, I don't care whether Baker is fired or not as long as he's not the DC anymore. Obviously paying him a DC salary as non DC seems like a big waste of money, but so was paying Temple 4 million for Diaz so it doesn't look like the school is overly concerned with budget management right now. Baker can stick with coaching LBs and be the non play-calling CO-DC. (BTW didn't that happen to Lashlee once as well? He got play calling duties taken away and was a non playcalling co-OC. Maybe I'm confusing him with someone else). Anyways, I realize Baker doesn't seem to be particularly good at coaching LBs, but if it means a new DC I'll happily take that trade. If he's not going to fire him, the smarter decision would be to move Patke to an analyst position, and then move Baker off defense to ST coach; bring in a new LB, high quality coach and a new DC who doesn't share defensive coordinating responsibilities.

Now obviously these are very much "politician moves" but I think most of us would have been quite happy if Mark Richt had moved his son from QB coach to an analyst position and brought in a high quality QB coach and OC or if Al Golden had moved Mark DNo to ST coach (Golden was the ST coach so he could have just had the CEO role) and then brought in a 4-3 guy to run the D.
