If you are asking about CURRENT rankings, I'd just point out that they are AP/Coaches rankings, and not CFP rankings.

On the CFP will use this new "data point".

So because a team is in the SEC or B1G - even if they play a low SOS schedule and have a low SOR because they avoided all the top teams, does that mean they deserve a boost just cause they are a B1G school?

So PSU gets a bump just for being in a strong conference? Indiana from 2yrs ago? It’s possible to play a weak schedule in a strong conference. And saying the overall conference is very strong that because the top 3 or so teams are great isn’t smart either.

The SEC or BIG? I'll give you the BIG, but the SEC doesn't deserve to be mentioned in the same sentence as the BIG when it comes to competitive college football. The BIG has won the last 3 championships, meanwhile the SEC hasn't even had 1 team make it to the championship game the last 3 seasons. You'd think if they were on the same level they'd have figured out how to beat an independent ND (who beat UGA) or weak-ACC UM (who beat TAMU and Ole Miss) to make it to a game.

In 2026, if you are talking power conferences, it's the BIG and then it's everyone else.

It matters. They’ve already showed AP vs CFP ranking the past couple years. They’re overwhelmingly the same.

The problem isn't the top tier of those conferences getting their due credit. It's the inflated teams getting more credit than earned merely to provide a safety net to teams who also occasionally lose games to garbage teams. It's a nonsense system mostly toward the bottom of the Top 25. Your evidence is blue chip ratio? Missouri is currently ranked 19th with a blue chip ratio around 34%. There are 6 ACC teams with the same or higher blue chip ratio. There are another 4 ACC teams right around that or close (less than 7 percentage points). Are those teams getting the same inflation Missouri or Miss St receive? Nope. Can't fairly view this until that's reconciled.
 
The only way to actually determine which conferences are really tougher is to have the top teams play each other. Unfortunately that almost never happens during the regular season. We saw what happened on the playoffs last year when the SEC went winless against P4 teams that weren’t other SEC teams.

Saban has been laying the groundwork since his comments back in august on Pat MacAfee's show. the show he talked about Mario convincing him the ACC was better..... It's all one big concerted effort from day one of Fall camp ...
