Honestly, if they simply got rid of polls and went to an NFL model, schools would naturally gravitate to where they think they can win. It would balance itself out. You'd end up with conferences, eventually, where schools are actually in the same geographic region, once all things become equal. You'd have a PAC10 again with only teams from the west coast. The ACC would no longer have teams from the west coast. The SEC wouldn't be so bloated, because teams would want a better, clearer path to the playoffs. Enough of this two super conference BS. Split that crap up to 8 conferences and be done with it.

What they should have done was bar any conference from making their own TV rights deal and force it to be done as a collective organization. That's the mechanism driving all this chaos. That's the part that is collusive and should be made illegal.

When you have polls (which help set the playoff) that are compiled by people who need to watch the games and you control which games make it to TV and which games don't AND you run the playoffs, which are driven entirely by ratings, you have an antitrust situation.

You make more money by being on TV. You make more money by being in the playoffs. And those choices are not determined by a formula, they are determined by choice.
