SC’s Governor just sent out a notice that he will ban CFB from starting in SC if the
COVID-19 doesn’t improve.

This is the first time I’ve seen a government official threaten to suspend the sport, on record, due to the virus.

Question: what exactly is getting worse? The number of positive tests, or the number of hospitalizations, or the number of deaths? Serious inquiring. TIA

Depends on the state. In Florida, there hasn’t yet been some huge spike in hospitalizations because many of the new cases are coming from the younger population.

Unfortunately some short sighted people both in power or from just your average day message board poster, are taking this to mean everything is fine and there’s really no cause for alarm.

These people are failing to take into account the likelihood that this is increasing the chance for spreading from the generally healthy younger population to more vulnerable folks so an upcoming alarming increase in hospitalizations is sadly looking like an inevitability rather than a projection.

If we as a country had taken this pandemic with the seriousness it required from the outset like other nations did, we would be having no issues with our precious college football season starting in the fall. Instead we have prolonged this crisis to the detriment of the health and livelihood of hundreds of thousands of people and will be dealing with it much longer than we ever should have.

Stay indoors whenever possible and wear your masks outdoors, people.

The number of positive tests have skyrocketed only partly due to increased testing. The rate of positives as a percent of the tests has also gone way up. The rate of hospitalizations has been increasing since mid June and hit an all time high by the end of the month. Deaths lag infections by about 4-5 weeks, they are only now starting to tick up again a little. As the infections spread in the community it will start to hit more vulnerable people and the deaths will follow. All the above is based on statewide data, but it's even more true in Miami.
