If.you don't know every detail on why these kids are deciding to enter the draft then you really don't know if their decision is dumb... I would hope these kids have someone to help them with making the right choice.. As selfish fans (Me included) we want them all to stay... but there are so many variables at play... Are ne one of us going to help MJ pay his bills if he has a career ending injury his senior season... I doubt it ... A 1st round pick and a 7th round pick will have the same salary under the NFL CBA... the difference is the signing bonus... which runs out around the 35th pick... so being 40 or 140 is no difference. to call these kids dumb for their decisions is dumb. I'm not saying going or staying is the right choice unless U can plug in all the variables and thoughtfully weigh the risk versus the reward.

Curtis Samuel was drafted 40th overall in April. He received a signing bonus of $2.8 million, with a total rookie contract value of $6.4 million.

Wayne Gallman was drafted 140th in April. He received a signing bonus of $419,000, with a total rookie contract value of $2.8 million.

6th-7th round picks get about 190k-65k signing bonuses and are cut outright with a significantly higher frequency.

Who is educating our players on this stuff?

From the major mistakes we've all seen, apparently no one.

And if some DID attempt to educate them - obviously those that leave early are in a hurry - wanting to take a shortcut - and don't realize that there's really no such thing as a shortcut.

The argument that they may get hurt - and hurt their chances in the NFL by coming back is not really viable, as there are no guarantees on anything at any time.

The players should seek sane, rational, prudent counsel, both for staying/leaving, and also to get financial advice for after they get some paychecks.

For any professional endeavor, the better prepared, and better skilled one is at his craft - the better chances he'll succeed in the short term and the long term.

Rookie contracts aren't what they used to be due to the new CBA, but there is still a significant difference between earlier and later round picks. 4th-7th total contracts are very similar though with what Shaq's dad said but the signing bonus is the differential. As far as being educated by UM, I'm not sure if draft eligible guys are given information by any of the coaches or compliance, but I know as a team there was never any discussion on NFL contracts.

I would love to. I'm taking the agent certification test late July so hopefully I'll be able to for the next wave of guys next season. As previously mentioned we don't know each guy's personal situation and we're quick to cast judgement on which way they're leaning. I know some players have a close knit family that advises them and others are pretty much on their own and I'd like to at least be able to explain the financials and opportunity cost of each possible route they could take.

NFL draft picks are not cut. Not in this era with only 7 rounds and salary cap ramifications everywhere, necessitating lower salaries to fill out special teams and the roster in general. If you want to hype a draft pick being cut then it's just another example of conventional wisdom low percentage outlier trivia that so often is raised as somehow meaningful around here. If a team invests a draft pick on you, the reality is you receive a full opportunity and tons of benefit of a doubt.

This is the breakdown from 2016. Less than 1 draft pick per team was cut before the opening day roster was set. The second link includes a graph from the same season, identifying players from each spot in the draft and their status to begin the season. Only 22 draft picks had been cut. If you are drafted in the 5th round or earlier it's severely unlikely the team will get rid of you quickly. The specific breakdown was 1 player cut from Round 4, 3 players from Round 5, 11 from Round 6, and 7 from Round 7.

Pinckney gained weight and became slightly less effective but continued making plays.

McCloud was pretty much a disaster this season.

That's a bit of a hot take and a little bit of a strong way of putting things stylistically.

Here's what I will say about The Glove: I'm not sure that his draft stock isn't as high as it possibly could be right now. Sure, if he comes back for another season and has an absolutely stellar year with 5-6 picks, again has one of the lowest QBR's Against in the country, stays healthy all year, etc, etc, theoretically, he could improve his draft position significantly. The chance for something to go wrong, whether it be injury, or opponents figuring out how to expose him, etc, etc, leaves just as big a downside for him.

I'd love to see him come back, perform at a high level for us, and be a guaranteed 1st or 2nd round pick next year. But I can certainly see the merit in any choice he makes, especially for a guy who 6 months ago had seen most of his career wasted by NoD and Gorlden and now suddenly wakes up in the morning with a chance to get drafted and play on Sundays 8-9 months from now. There is no right or wrong answer here. I wish him the best in making the right decision and in his future endeavors.

Whatever decision he makes, his success is proof positive that this coaching staff can help players that come to Miami make the most of their opportunities and improve their career prospects. We on the way, in no small part thanks to the King of Pop's efforts on and off the field in the past 12 months.

It's easy for me to say now, but it would be interesting to play that game again without Bandy getting hurt. That was a dagger the moment it happened. Not an excuse, and obviously not the reason we lost, just a fact and an observation. I think the game would have been more respectable with him in it.
