Good choice for the kid. NFL is about measurables. He's looks the part and has some decent film.

You could say this about tons of NFL prospects.

Looking the part isn’t a reason to leave early lol holy **** that’s terrible advice.

Another year will make a huge difference in refining his technique, resulting in a better draft, more money, and at least a couple more years in the league.

For the guys ****ting on Norton and McIntosh about the Clemson game...I dunno....Clemson could not run the ball at all and those 2 were responsible for it. They might not have caused havoc in the pass rush but Clemson could not MOVE them.

The AFC Executive is from the Phins and no one alive should take any stock into what he says..

They didn't run because they saw that we stacked the box to take away the run. Instead, they played pitch and catch with wide open receivers all over the field, no pass rush, and annihilated with the throw game.

Mistake if he goes. 5-7 round range is no reason to leave. Stay another year and put out more good tape. The jump between last year and this year was huge just imagine what another year of Rumph's coaching could do for him.

I would be surprised if he got drafted higher than the 6th round, if he came back and continued to improve he could be a 2-3 rd pick.

The NFL are not dumb they evaluate everything and will know he never played until midway through his junior year and was helped by a very good DL.

The NFL is more than dumb enough are you kiddng me lo.l

If.you don't know every detail on why these kids are deciding to enter the draft then you really don't know if their decision is dumb... I would hope these kids have someone to help them with making the right choice.. As selfish fans (Me included) we want them all to stay... but there are so many variables at play... Are ne one of us going to help MJ pay his bills if he has a career ending injury his senior season... I doubt it ... A 1st round pick and a 7th round pick will have the same salary under the NFL CBA... the difference is the signing bonus... which runs out around the 35th pick... so being 40 or 140 is no difference. to call these kids dumb for their decisions is dumb. I'm not saying going or staying is the right choice unless U can plug in all the variables and thoughtfully weigh the risk versus the reward.

WORD. If he can make some money in the NFL now, go for it. As to getting a degree, that argument is obsolete now since all players can come back at any time and complete their degrees.

That's just it. Your chances of making money in the NFL sharply deteriorate if you're a late-round pick/UDFA. If a guy like this comes back and gets drafted in the 2nd or 3rd round, then his chances of getting cut drop precipitously. Teams almost never cut their higher picks because they'd look like idiots if they did, and they don't want that.

The Lions picked that **** stain Tabor from UF in the 2nd round, and he didn't even make the active roster for the first part of the season because he was so awful. If Tabor was a 6th round pick they would have cut him the first week of training camp.

Just like we overrate our players, certainly the players are likely to do the same thing, especially if they have someone whispering in their ear. This and many other factors (as UknowWhat says) may be pushing them to leave. But i don't judge them (not saying you are). It's their lives, their work, their sacrifices and their mistakes.

Would love to see an interview with past UM players who left early...just to see what was there reasons for leaving/staying and do they regret that decision now or would they have done the same thing again, knowing what they know now. Just curious

The players should be confident and should overrate themselves. However, that's why they have the NFL Draft Advisory Committee in place, and that's why they should listen to an honorable guy like Coach Rick.

There are plenty of checks and balances in place to stop guys from making idiotic, short-sighted decisions. Yet, every **** year, there are plenty of guys who leave early who don't get drafted, get cut, and never play a snap in the NFL.

I'm not looking to "judge" them. Instead, I'd love to talk some sense into them and let them see the long-term and not be in such a rush. Unfortunately, you don't get several shots at this. If you make a dumb decision it could cost you your livelihood in football.

Not really a big deal I think dean is our best corner he just need to play with more confidence .

I know you are a father of a current player so you really need to educate yourself on this. You could not be more wrong.

Curtis Samuel was drafted 40th overall in April. He received a signing bonus of $2.8 million, with a total rookie contract value of $6.4 million.

Wayne Gallman was drafted 140th in April. He received a signing bonus of $419,000, with a total rookie contract value of $2.8 million.

6th-7th round picks get about 190k-65k signing bonuses and are cut outright with a significantly higher frequency.

Who is educating our players on this stuff?

Apparently you've excluded Cleveland, Miami, Denver, Chicago, NY, NY, San Francisco, and Buffalo from the NFL. Understandable. They're never on RedZone.

From the major mistakes we've all seen, apparently no one.

And if some DID attempt to educate them - obviously those that leave early are in a hurry - wanting to take a shortcut - and don't realize that there's really no such thing as a shortcut.

The argument that they may get hurt - and hurt their chances in the NFL by coming back is not really viable, as there are no guarantees on anything at any time.

The players should seek sane, rational, prudent counsel, both for staying/leaving, and also to get financial advice for after they get some paychecks.

How many UM players have just ****ed away millions of dollars, and after their NFL career is over - they're broke?

For any professional endeavor, the better prepared, and better skilled one is at his craft - the better chances he'll succeed in the short term and the long term.

Definitely don't see a reason for that to be said with the way Bandy, Young, and Jackson actually played throughout most of the year. I hope Dean is just as good as well, but at this point, he cant be said to be the best.

Rookie contracts aren't what they used to be due to the new CBA, but there is still a significant difference between earlier and later round picks. 4th-7th total contracts are very similar though with what Shaq's dad said but the signing bonus is the differential. CHART: NFL rookie contracts - Business Insider The signing bonus is usually the only guaranteed money a rookie will receive so even if the total contract value is similar between a round 4 guy and a 7th round or free agent, the guaranteed amount can be a game changer.

As far as being educated by UM, I'm not sure if draft eligible guys are given information by any of the coaches or compliance, but I know as a team there was never any discussion on NFL contracts.

I'm talking about upside when it comes to dean I think he has the size and speed combination nfl scouts are looking for he just has to put it together just like mike Jackson did this year.
