I bet this is why we couldn't flip the Jones kid from mighty FIU. He knew this deal with Adidas was going down. Al is fighting like a wounded jackal to flip FIU recruits, and now they throw this Adidas cloud at him.

FIU is Adidas also

It boggles the mind, just how myopic this admin is. This new deal is a start, but it could have been so much more. If they committed to building the football program, like every other major school has, they would be sitting on a cash cow. With UM's brand, they would easily get Michigan money for the apparel deal. ****, by the end of this contract, they could command 10mil per year if they knew what the F*** they were doing. That money could pay for the entire football coaching staff and some of the basketball staff. All they have to do is invest a little into the program and then milk it for all its worth. Even F***ing ivy league Stanford is doing it.

Good luck with that. It's going to U Health and we all know it! UM NEVER puts any money into athletics. That department only gets something if it's specifically donated for that purpose, like the baseball stadium.

The money is earmarked for the Athletic Dept. it won't be used for U Health or any other academic/admin purposes.

Porter

Jim Larranaga, on ACC conference call, says shoe companies can affect recruiting but the quality of a program is the most important factor.
11:01am - 5 Jan 15

I will take Larranaga dressed in an Adidas shoe box over Folden dressed in Jason's Golden Fleece, any day of the week and twice on Sundays.

even Nike knows we're finished

It looks that way, at least for right now it does.

We started the trend (of schools signing exclusive deals with a sports apparel company) when we signed with Nike in '87... It a darn shame they didn't want to re-up their counteroffer, but like we do with our football coaches, you get what you pay for.

FSU is getting slightly over 4 million with Nike and they have won a NC last year and made it to the CFB playoff this year. I guess Nike figured why re-up with a school that has a MAC-style coach that can't even win the Coastal division.

I don't blame Nike one bit for not budging on their offer.

I get that this doesn't go with the current narrative, but Nike not re-upping with Miami was more about Nike not Miami.
You get into a bidding war with one school and you get into a bidding war with virtually every school.

To be honest, this just shows where we are as a program. Nike always antes up when there is a winner involved (see MJ, KD, LBJ, OSU, Bama, and FSU when it came to other apparel companies trying to lay claim). Not only are we not winners, we have imbeciles running our program. Why in the **** would you have this whole hoopla these new unis this yr, just to switch??

Furthermore, if you think that switching apparel companies is just as simple as us "making" more money, you are fooling yourself. What we have in our admin dept are individuals who can care less about the "TRADITION" of our program and more about money; money that is not even being REINVESTED in our programs. We have hired yes men coaches, coaches that completely went away from the mantra that made us the U in the first place (and that includes Shannon). We have recruited players that don't fit our mold, or have been pussified since coming on (look no further than the pic that players took w/ the opposition this past duck dynasty bowl). Now we switch from the most powerful shoe apparel company on earth, the company we pioneered with, for an extra amount of crumbs...crumbs that our athletic dept will more than likely not benefit from!!!!

Sad days as Canes fans; I literally have no words for the bad decision after bad decision that this school has made. You can say, 'switching to Adidas is not that big of deal, blah blah blah'...It's not the switch, it's what's represented by the switch coupled w/ everything else. We are going further and further and further away from what the U was, and that's what hurts the most about all of these decisions.

suppsoedly at least 3 mil more a year

Is that cash? Or does that include things like apparel/equipment? Source?

Just the number being thrown around everywhere. If you believe Romburg it would be more than that since someone quoted him saying it is the most lucrative deal in NCAA history. If that is the case it would be more than Michigan who is over 8 mil a year.

Wish there was a legit source, darn.

Lol these threads are dope. Between the old guys who want us to look like Penn st or alabama and the guys who think the program is done because we're not wearing nikes, there's a whole bunch of stupid in these threads. I want to make 2 things abundantly clear...

1.) The uniform game is different now, stop fantasizing about only wearing the classic uniforms. Miami will have multiple unis, multiple helmets, and multiple pants just like every other major program and that won't change anytime soon. Maybe you can get a classic uni for a game or 2 but that sure as fvck isn't happening with nike. Adidas on the other hand has actually tried to embrace the past (a la Michigan), so your best bet of seeing a classic uni probably lies with Adidas.

2.) The great Nike myth. All that work they put in attaching themselves to all those cool athletes back in the 80's and 90s is what nike is living off at this point. There shoes/gear USED to be top **** but now with more competition Nike has come back down to earth and there isn't any gap in quality. It's all little Chinese kids feverishly pumping out those products. Nike is living off the fact that it launched itself into pop culture 25-30 years ago. After all....

Good. I'm waiting to see if they do something noteworthy with it. Not holding my breath.

Right?

They are living off their past and the gap is closing, huh? LBJ, Kobe, KD, Melo, CP3, Dirk, Griffin, Jimmy Buckets, Pau Gasol, Mark Gasol, Russell Westbrook, James Harden, Chris Bosh, Klay Thompson....etc. Brazil, Italy, Germany, USA, Canada, Switzerland...etc....OSU, FSU, BAMA, UF, LSU, OU, OU, OSU, UT...etc.

What do they all have in common? Not only are all of the aforementioned represented by Nike, but they have been winners since 2000. Either in the olympics, playoffs, or respective individual sports. Nike align themselves w/ winners, period.

Everyone was talking about how TAMU is doing just fine recruiting head to head w/ UT and TAMU is an Adidas school....are you seeing what's happening this recruiting cycle?? UT is smoking the **** out of TAMU. TAMU had a glimmer of hope when UT was down, but now that they have an equally good coach, all of those TAMU locks flipped to UT and UT had a bad year this yr.

It's the same thing w/ UCLA v. USC. UCLA got big recruits only b/c USC was down, now that USC is off of sanctions, you're not hearing any kids going to UCLA.

Kids are kids...they want to be associated w/ what's hot and Nike is what's hot. All of the sports video games have Nike as the optimum success in career modes. The NIKE Sparq camp is still the end all camp for all big time recruits.

The only competition to Nike in the football world is Under Armour, and we didn't even switch to them!!! We went w/ a company that specializes in European designs. Trust and believe FSU will continue to smoke us on the recruiting trail. This is another neg recruiting method that they and UF can use against us.

TAMU sitting at 8th in current Rivals rankings, UT at 10th.

USC (who has won a few national titles and was on top of the world a few years ago) is sitting at 3rd; UCLA (who's never won anything and has finished in the top 25 only a handful of times since the 80s) is ranked 14th.
