Cane DTs over the decades. Who was the greatest?

Any wonder why our best seasons in a while have been when we had pretty good interior DL play...

Mario needs to build that unit up.
The 2017 defense was the worst of Manny’s three years as DC. It was much better in 2018 in pretty much every category. They just couldn’t score any points.

I like Gerald Willis but he shouldn't be on this list. You pretty much got all of our great DT's...Oh I just thought of one and thats Russell Maryland.
Two posts to point out the unacceptable omission of the great Russell Maryland.

****, we getting slow around here 😉

So easy. It's Vince. It isn't even close. Close the thread.
Vince was great but this is recency bias at work.

1. Sapp was so dominant he was getting real Heisman consideration by end of year.
2. Maryland was a monster
3. Kennedy was dominant and constantly in the backfield
4. Brown wasn’t just a great football player was he was a major leader of (at the time) a college football program revolutionizing the entire sport

Should I keep going ? I haven’t even mentioned older guys than these:

-Burt was very underrated, etc.
PS pretty sure ***an was a defensive end here and a **** good one.

Not mentioned in the Top 6 or 7 though. People forget how GREAT Lester Williams was. No way on the face of this earth was Willis a Top 6 or 7 DT in UM History.
You might be right about Williams but Miami was rarely on TV in those days so I wasn’t able to see him play much. Same with Ruben Carter et al…

Jerome Brown and Reggie White in their primes were on the same D-Line for the Eagles in the early 1990’s along with another Pro Bowler in Clyde Simmons.

Think about that **** for a minute (youngstas just ask your dad or your uncle or somebody who would know). Probably should have been illegal.

it is my opinon. i can defend it. sapp didnt have to turn sideways to enter a door.

Lots to choice from, but Jerome Brown is a somewhat clear #1 in my view. Unique in his ability to either run thru an offensive lineman or make the guy completely whiff on him as he goes by. Amazing combination of quickness and explosiveness.

White (RIP) said on numerous occasions, that had Jerome not passed, he'd have been the best ever.

Calvin Hurtelou's truck horn gesture as FSU in 2015. Inconic. Commemorative DVDs Monday.

1A Sapp
1B Jerome
2 Tez
3 Maryland
4 Wilfork....can't put Tez over Jerome or Sapp with only 2yrs at UM. Nobody is a bigger Jerome fan as I am...But when the guy who was Jerome's Position coach for 3 outta 4yrs tells me Sapp is the best Interior DLman in UM History, I'm rolling with that. And he only coached Sapp for one yr.
Why everyone disrespect Warren is really crazy....go back back and watch the 93-94 seasons....he was unblockable!!

Daniel Stubbs was dominate as a college DT and really fun to watch. One of best memories was the opposing offense ran a run to the right but the QB rolled left and our entire defense took the fake, except Stubbs. Stubbs looked like Superman fling at the QB so the QB simply went to the turf. Most of the mentioned stars had great supporting casts, Ted Hendricks and Sapp dominated individually. Hands down I put both Sapp and Hendricks as all time greats.

Greg Mark deserves a mention and Greg Rousseau would be there if not for just one year here.

I agree with all this except I’d have Sapp at a solid #1 by himself with Jerome at #2 with everyone else down a number.

Stubbs a frequent visitor to Club 200 section during games , you really don’t know what a beast he is until you shake his hand and see his size .
I can’t imagine him coming off the edge full speed.

GOCANES

Jerome Brown, one of top 2-3 canes ever M.Irvin & ray Lewis being other 2 guys all 3 had huge impact at the U

For 3 quarters Sapp was playing one of the greatest games seen by a DT ever at the collegiate level. If he wasn’t making the play he was blowing it up so bad he made other players jobs easy. Those big fat slow OL from Nebraska had no answer. The effort a guy his size put forth for 3 quarters in Sfla heat is unreal.
