Cane DTs over the decades. Who was the greatest?

Eddie Edwards

Kevin ***an one of many guys I was like "whoa he was a hurricane?". Biggest surprise to me was Ted Hendricks, I was blown away in middle school when I learned he was a Miami Hurricane

Sapp would be my number one DT. If I had to pick a college team and could only pick one guy from a college team at his prime.

I'd take Ted Hendricks at DE.

Willis his prime year at RB.

Reed, so close, but that's my guy at the safety spot.

McKinley at LT.

Dan Morgan is one of my linebackers, this was hard.

The rest, man you could make so many different picks IMHO. ****, you could make a ton of picks even above. I'd just have to have those guys on my all time team from Miami.

Back on point though, Sapp is ever so slightly above some other greats. All of the above is college only, no NFL careers made it into my decision making process.

I was thinking about our flimsy DT depth and my thoughts turned to this:

In order of greatness:

Jerome Brown (RIP)
Cortez Kennedy
Warren Sapp
Vince Wilfork
Gerald Willis

Did I miss anyone?

Remember how good it felt when we had a monster or two in the interior? You just felt secure.

Man some of those names from the 70's bring back memories. Indeed, some of those teams had some tenacious defenses.

Sapp just did things DTs can’t do. He was fast enough to chase down a running back from behind and strong enough to manhandle a Nebraska offensive line that was the nation’s best. He wasn’t as big at UM as he was in the NFL but the guy was a freak athlete at 285.

Gerald Willis is just outside that top pantheon of great Miami DTs. Mostly because he only played one complete season here. He was a 2nd Team All American.
