Candidate for 10th Assistant

Might sound crazy but I'd hire a designated Kicker coach apart from a special teams coach.

Not crazy at all, better than paying a ridiculous salary to a thumb up the *** position like assistant to the assistant of the assistant toilet paper installer.

Soldinger is like 75 years old

Find the next great STs coach. I think having a guy with some experience on offense may help some more, but taking the load off Diaz would probably be good too. Mallory is an intriguing candidate.

Anyone is better than what we currently have now coaching that position.

Disagree, Special Teams comprises of 6 of the 8 units of a football team, maybe the most important units on a team.

A coach with a good eye for Special Teams talent is invaluable.

You can tell how talented a team is just by watching KO Coverage & Return.

We are bad in every phase on special teams

Not consistent enough still have some inexcusable missed. That miss against clemson hurt any type of momentum

80% field goal kicker. Let that settle in. A guy whose won games time and time again with his leg. Yet, he's apparently not consistent. Never mind the fact that an overwhelming majority of his misses are from distances that 99% of other kickers miss at a higher rate.

Special teams ain’t hard to coach. Any guy we could hire could do a better job than Hartley at that spot at this point. Field goal kicking is sometimes spotty with badgely, kick return blocking is horrible, kickoff coverage is bad as well. Punting is beyond terrible.

Hire surtain, he’s a nfl vet and knows special teams as well

Your ignorance is showing... If Surtain can coach it, great. But I'd be willing to bet he knows nothing about punting or kicking a field goal or identifying someone who can and coaching them to do it. He might be able to orchestrate a decent alignment and coverage but it's just as difficult as coaching offense or defense.

On top of that, the last thing you want as a ST coordinator is the OC or DC on your *** because your unit sucks and give the opponent great field position and the offense terrible field position. These rookie coaches aren't meant for ST.
Anyone is better than what we currently have now coaching that position. I think Hartley is a pretty good tight end coach and a very good recruiter but he got to pass the sticks on special teams
Let's be honest....you don't have a g**** clue on either front

I hear ya', but how many College teams have a dedicated kicking coach? Seems to me that most teams just wing it in regards to kicking.
This. MOST college kickers get private tutoring in the off-season. A good special teams coach is half psychologist with these head cases.

I hate the depth argument but this is where it shows up glaringly on this team. As depth improves our special teams problems will go away.

STs is one coach you can bring in a competent person and instantly make your STs better.
Disagree.... When depth improves our specials will. Bringing in a dedicated special teams coach (unless he's a monster recruiter) is a waste.

Bagley was bad?

I think we need an OC to game plan and share ideas with richt. It would help us be more creative, but richt could still coach qbs and call plays.

It’s defintiely needed imo

Either offensive coordinator
Lb coach
Or special teams coordinator

Really can't see Richt bringing in an OC. What happens to Brown, Richt, and Richt Jr. positions then? I don't see it but maybe thats just me.

I don't see the point in bringing one in anyway

our WR's are WIDE open

is an offensive coordinator gonna get them MORE wide open?

After listening to a lot of NFL radio, some sports radio, and seeing a lot of message boards I have discovered that "get creative" is a key word for "I don't know much I just want more wins".

Richt is partly here because its where he went to college. He is also here because he gets to call the shots and gets his son some resume experience. Could probably easily get a job somewhere else and possibly for more money. So people who keep coming up with all these ideas about hiring an OC or getting rid of his son should probably let those ideas go.

These guys forget that Booch had to take the STs away from Soldinger and make it a committee position with Stoops the lead guy there because our STs were garbage.

That and Soldinger is 100.

What we need to do is get ol Bobby Hauck over here to coach ST's.

Mallory is learning from DeCamillas who's arguably the best special teams coach on the planet.

Decamillas? Lol he has been fired from at least 3-4 teams.

Dave Toub is widely regarded as the best ST coach on the planet. He was the Bears ST coach with Hester, and now he is running KC’s ST with Tyreek Hill

The Jags are 3/3 on fake punts with multiple formations this year. Mickens (WHO LOL) looks like an all world PR. The coverage units are solid while missing arguably the best special teams gunner in the NFL (Benn), and he pushed out the kicker to get one that's performed great. Joe is one helluva special teams coach. He's innovative, knows how to utilize talent, and has an eye for talent. Dave Toub is great, but he has nowhere near the experience as Joe. Any coach is going to look great with Hester on special teams. It's the guys getting undrafted free agents to make house calls that's most impressive.

I don’t think he was great. Probably average. Missed pat against FSU last year how many games did he win us? GT from point blank maybe? How many times did he miss the whole field on kick offs? He got 1st team because of preseason hype. Brad kayaa of kicking. Won’t be missed. Carlos Huerta 10X the kicker.

Leave it to Broke to ***** about the kicking game in a 38-3 blowout.
