Cam Davis 40

Laser times are, typically, .24 slower than hand times.

So, for any of y'all suggesting 4.59 and 4.63 laser times are not "elite" ... Make the adjustment, and ask yourself how you feel about a 4.35 40 for Davis and a 4.39 for Lingard.

And those kids are still in the 11th grade ...

Some of yall need to stay off of Playstation, or pay attention to the NFL combine 40 times.

4.6 on the laser is elite for a high school kid.

Davis and lingard both have exceptional speed after the first 15-20 yards. If you watch their highlights you can see the breakaway speed that we haven't had in a long time.

Reminds me of secretariat at the Belmont. He was faster each quarter.

5'10" 190 4.59

That's good size and good speed - but not great, and definitely not elite.

For context, consider that Kenneth Dixon, who was drafted in the 4th round of the 2016 NFL draft and eventually got some decent PT as a rookie, had these numbers at the 2016 NFL combine:

22 years old
5' 10"
215 pounds
4.58 40 YD
4.28 SS
37.5" vertical

He had over 500 rushing and receiving yards and 3 TDs as a rookie running back in the NFL.

That NFL combine 4.58 would probably be very close to 4.7 with FAT (laser start/stop).

You are absolutely correct. There are quality NFL RBs who wouldn't test any better. And Lingard and Davis are H.S. Juniors.

Dude is a junior in high school. He should be able to improve his speed by 0.1 to 0.2 on the 40.

What did Richards run as a junior? He has to be a 4.4 guy now or maybe 4.5.

It's also the off season and these kids have not been training.

Davis and Lingard are both sub 4.5 kids when prepared.

It's great considering most will scratch their 40 results like they did in Orlando...I bet several kids ran in the 4.8 range.

About the same as Burns (4.57)....

Not too bad. He'll get faster. Glad he'll be one of our RBs next year....

Full results from the Regional Miami Opening will be available this week, but Miami running back commit Camron
Davis just told me that he posted a 4.59 laser time on Sunday, which is a great time for a player of his size (5-10, 191)

True. On the other hand, it's not a track meet. It's a football game. And he'll get faster and stronger - he has a lot of time to do it....

The myth that HS kids are running 4.3 and 4.4s is always funny.

For reference, here are some combine times the last 2 years of college backs as 21-22 year olds:

David Johnson 4.5
Melvin Gordon 4.52
Duke Johnson 4.54
Derrick Henry 4.54
Paul Perkins 4.54
Jay Ajayi 4.57
Alex Collins 4.59
Ameer Abdullah 4.6
TJ Yeldon 4.61

Where are you getting .24 from? Here's a article comparing the Hand Held times vs, the Electronic times at the NFL combine (scroll down to see the times). The difference is about .05 - .10.

2015 NFL Combine: Real-time 40s to be used for first time - CBSSports.com

As a comparison - here's The Opening numbers for Miami RB's:

Davis - 5'10" 190 4.59
Burns - 5'11" 215 4.57
Homer - 5'11" 195 4.48
Walton - 5'9" 182 4.63
Yearby - 5'9" 179 4.58
Gus - 6'2" 221 4.58

But here's some of the Elite at The Opening:

Dalvin Cook - 5'11" 196 4.46
Sony Michel - 5'11" 194 4.46
Nick Chubb - 5'11" 217 4.47
Joe Mixon - 6'1" 209 4.53

I know I sound like a hater - but saying 4.59 is "elite" just isn't fair to the kid. It's setting expectations too high. I'm excited about our 2018 RB's, but I can already see the hype train starting to get a little out of control.

I'm totally on board with saying Davis is a Walton/Yearby level/type of talent. But he's definitely not in the the Duke/Cook category. I think the Michel/Collins/Scarlett category is over-hyping him a bit too IMO.

I think that myth died about a decade ago once the recruiting sites started posting legitimate times....

You think putting Davis in the same category as Scarlett is overhyping him? Yikes.
