California’s Far Pay to Play Bill

I think it would help us. Teams are already paying guys so let’s let our guys get exposure in a big market like Miami. Schools like Miami and usc and UCLA would benefit greatly.

No, this is bad for us. No way in thee world can we compete. Our booster aren't vested in this program like that. We ain't a brand like that anymore.

doubt it...California is so progressive that it's not even funny.
Do you really see the good ol' boys in Alabama allowing their indentured servants under Saban to be paid for bringing millions to the school...**** no
Let them be the last state to do it. What are they going to do, have a UAB, Auburn, Alabama and Jacksonville State playoff?

Think of how much money some of the stars are leaving on the table by not being able to use their likeness. Athletes/Celebrities are making BIG money on social media. One of the few side hustles a full time athlete/student has time for.

Zion lost MILLIONS last year.

@CFLCane Zion would have never made the fame he now has if it wasn't for the NCAA and duke. I am not saying the NCAA is perfect and doesn't have a lot of problems, I am just saying, colleges provide a lot of things and spend a lot of money on the athlete. 99% of the athletes in college would not have the "image" created without the NCAA and football.

It took Mark Richt to kick in 1 million to get the IPF going; and now fans expect the boosters and the school to kick in money to pay players?

This would be bad for us.

Yep it would just be an easier way for boosters to funnel money to the kids. The bag will now be paid through an endorsement deal from Billy Bob's Rib Shack.

I'm not talking about what the colleges should provide or what they receive for exchange for their play. I'm saying the NCAA should not have the right to limit ANYONES right to earn money off their own likeness period.

Mike Krzyzewski made 9 million dollars at Duke last year to coach 14 kids. 642,000 per kid.

There is a reason we're in the 1 and done era in basketball it's because these kids are worth much more than the scholarship cost to these schools.

Anyway i'm off an a Bball tangent. But it's the best example.

Who the **** is going pay these kids? California cant even pay it's own bills.....good in theory, but not in practice.

California is a Sinkhole State without enough assets to cover its debt. California only has $100.1 billion of assets available to pay bills totaling $369.9 billion. Because California doesn't have enough money to pay its bills, it has a $269.9 billion financial hole.

We live in some fairy tale world, bro. They were already talking about this on the local radio out here...they said w/o NCAA's regulations on this, teams w/ resources are just going to smash smaller schools without these same resources.

Yes, imagine a college football world dominated by a handful of big schools who pay the most for their players

I wonder if the state of Oregon will be next to pass this, seeing as how their flagship university could benefit the most out of the gate. If kids are free to profit from their own likeness, Nike could hand out endorsement deals left and right.

The NCAA has no legal standing to claim they have complete control scholarship athlete’s lives. None. F*ck the NCAA.

This doesn’t mean the schools owe money to the players for video games and such. All the schools have to do is add language to scholarships giving them the right and the players forfeiting a share in trade for the grant-in-aid. Or bundle in a fixed amount.

Someone wants to pay Jarren Williams $2K to appear at a car dealership? Good for him. But, um, Jarren, you can’t wear any UM apparel. The school owns that intellectual property. Sign UM memorabilia? Sorry, the school owns that also.

Plenty of ways schools can fight this if they choose. Or, do they allow this and fight the NCAA?

Would love to have some lawyers chime in!

I can't go down the actual rabbit hole of the debate on this but I will say this about Teblows too- I remember the shots of his family home on Draft Day. To call the Teblows "middle class" would almost certainly be erroneous. I doubt they're "prosperity gospel" Chreeestians but they certainly aren't tithing 90% of their income (however it was generated) to missionary efforts.

F-Tebow. He may have saw struggle in others while on missionary work but he’s never gone a day without anything.

Except for not losing his virginity, allegedly.

But that’s a different story.
