Butch on 790 right now

We are in perfect position to fire Golden and get the coach fans and locals want, it amazes me that the administration does not give a **** and think how a good coach will financially bring money into the school if he wins the way a real coach is suppose to by dominating opponents. The FSU/Florida game showed it is possible to get fans to the game. If Miami returned to greatness under a coach like Butch ticket sales and attendance would sky rocket imo.

Only Miami, ONLY MIAMI could have this situation fall into their laps and still fvck it up.

They've got the architect of the greatest roster in college football history, walking around, hat in hand, just begging to come back and build the dynasty he walked away from. Even for an incompetent group like them, you'd have to purposely try hard to ruin this situation.

The excitement around the program would explode. This would all come at the tie The U Reloaded is released. Ticket sales, attendance, recruiting - it would create so much momentum both on and off the field. The Miami brand would never be hotter.

Remember December 2014, because choosing not to fire Golden and replace him with Butch will go down as one of the biggest mistakes in Miami football history.

It's like they're intentionally sabotaging the football program.

Was this a phone interview or was he in studio. If he was in town live there might be a reason he is in Miami

The BOT can't be this stupid and shortsighted..can they???? Pay the ******* buyout and grab Butch for the love of all things sacred!

This is one of those "too good to be true" situations. Except it's actually true.

The awful state of our program, the "coach" we currently have in charge of it, and the man that resurrected it before available--practically begging for the job.

And what are we doing to take advantage of the situation?

Davis is a master at conveying a message smartly. He's one of those dudes who looks and sounds like a dumb hayseed but is actually a very bright guy. He went on that show for a reason. He knows where the audience is, and he wants people here to know he'd be here in a second if they offered him.

Bullseye, except nobody has bought the dumb hayseed facade for quite some time. Would be a HUGE reunion.

For one thing under Butch we'd have a d style that would be far more attractive to DL recruits. I'd expect to improve our talent there quickly and significantly.

While I think Butch would be awesome here, and can evaluate talent really well, I think you guys give him way to much credit for those recruiting classes. I mean Golden doesn't choose everyone we go after, that's Brennan Carroll and James Coley because they are the recruiting coordinators. Same goes with Butch, his recruiting coordinator was in charge of recruiting. During the season the HC doesn't have enough time to scout and all that, maybe during the summer, but definitely not during the season.
Just saying, you guys put a little too much emphasis on the HC when it comes to recruiting.

...I'm still hoping next year after Golden is fired, we get Chud as HC, Butch as DC, and Dorsey as OC. Doubt we'd ever spend enough to get those Coordinators though.

I think you're underselling the role of the HC in recruiting. The coordinators do a lot of the scouting and organizing, but nobody is getting offered a scholly without the HC signing off. He has a paradigm that he looks for.

For example, Golden's mentality was fill the roster with "coal shovelers" and a few A-level talents. He also wanted bigger linebackers, prioritizing bulk over speed.

Real life?

If we would hire Butch, I know two long-time Golden Canes who'd double there already high 5 figure donation. These are two examples only. Butch would come in as a relatively underpaid coach in the ACC. Butch would create a buzz to salvage at least 5,000 tickets that will be lost next year. As an example, I know of one long-time poster on here who will close down a group of 20 season tickets next year. He's a true diehard fan and, if he's not renewing (no pun), I don't think it's hard to presume there are many like him. Butch is probably the net difference in about 10k tickets (x 6 games) overall when you consider what we'd lose with what we'd actually gain in season ticket sales if he created a buzz.

Add all that up using a very conservative calculator and, in one year, we'd save at minimum over 2 million dollars next year. With the information I've been told that the buyout is between 4 and 5 million, you're basically looking at a 2 year window to cover that cost. That doesn't include the Maryland penalty money, which can be pushed to facilities, or any other bump up in revenue.

Butch isn't my first choice, but he's a smart financial choice. This is about more than money.

Lu, who would be your top choice and why?

1 big issue with Butch is his age. He's 63, which in recruiting is a major negative. If you bring him in, gotta expect him to be here atleast 5 years. That puts him almost 70. Sorry but a 70 year old just doesnt have the energy motivation to run a program and recruit with these young guns. While he would be a great leader and coach i just dont think he has it in him at his age. I know Saban is similar age but hes been doing it year in year out and has build such a rep players line up to play for Bama. Doesnt take nearly as much.
Not that I think there's a chance in **** he'll get hired. Perhaps if it snows in Miami and it does happen I would venture a short term contract with an "heir apparent" unproven stud assistant coach, perhaps someone with a U background like Dorsey, Chud, or someone similarly promising but unproven at this point.

I've mentioned him (Stoops) in other threads and why. I agree with those who said this really should be a Butch thread.
