Butch on 790 right now

I'll take Butch ,Saban, Spurrier , Snyder over 1000s Golden's combined

I'd take pretty much anything not named Coker or Shannon over Golden. We just need change. I'm not the biggest Butch fan in the world but I'd take him in a second if it guaranteed we'd fire Golden's sorry *** tomorrow.

1 big issue with Butch is his age. He's 63, which in recruiting is a major negative. If you bring him in, gotta expect him to be here atleast 5 years. That puts him almost 70. Sorry but a 70 year old just doesnt have the energy motivation to run a program and recruit with these young guns. While he would be a great leader and coach i just dont think he has it in him at his age. I know Saban is similar age but hes been doing it year in year out and has build such a rep players line up to play for Bama. Doesnt take nearly as much.

Real life?

If we would hire Butch, I know two long-time Golden Canes who'd double there already high 5 figure donation. These are two examples only. Butch would come in as a relatively underpaid coach in the ACC. Butch would create a buzz to salvage at least 5,000 tickets that will be lost next year. As an example, I know of one long-time poster on here who will close down a group of 20 season tickets next year. He's a true diehard fan and, if he's not renewing (no pun), I don't think it's hard to presume there are many like him. Butch is probably the net difference in about 10k tickets (x 6 games) overall when you consider what we'd lose with what we'd actually gain in season ticket sales if he created a buzz.

Add all that up using a very conservative calculator and, in one year, we'd save at minimum over 2 million dollars next year. With the information I've been told that the buyout is between 4 and 5 million, you're basically looking at a 2 year window to cover that cost. That doesn't include the Maryland penalty money, which can be pushed to facilities, or any other bump up in revenue.

Butch isn't my first choice, but he's a smart financial choice. This is about more than money.

Pete Carroll is 63 also and has as much energy as ever, and is coaching his best football.

Butch has something to prove and is the greatest developer of talent in college history. Anyone want to debate that?

BRING HIM BACK!

@ Lu

If the buyout is really only 4-5 million then that makes me even MORE upset. It's ridiculous the firing hasn't already been announced.

Oh and if you get Butch cheap, you not only have more money for staff/coaches, but he probably keeps Coley and surrounds him with elite assistants.

The buy out has to be closer to $8 million, why else would they not pull the trigger? I can't believe these idiots gave this ******* that high of a clause. Morons.

Butch's coaching staff would be elite

Perhaps the most under-appreciated aspect of being an elite head coach is the ability to assemble and maintain a high quality staff. It requires a ton of connections within the industry. Both Larry and Randy struggled in this regard.

As WeOwn notes - There is no doubt that Butch will be able to put together a staff of teachers and recruiters.

Only Miami, ONLY MIAMI could have this situation fall into their laps and still fvck it up.

They've got the architect of the greatest roster in college football history, walking around, hat in hand, just begging to come back and build the dynasty he walked away from. Even for an incompetent group like them, you'd have to purposely try hard to ruin this situation.

The excitement around the program would explode. This would all come at the tie The U Reloaded is released. Ticket sales, attendance, recruiting - it would create so much momentum both on and off the field. The Miami brand would never be hotter.

Remember December 2014, because choosing not to fire Golden and replace him with Butch will go down as one of the biggest mistakes in Miami football history.

Butch doesn't just have eye for player talent eval, he's **** good at picking assistants too.. the 2000 team had what 3 NFL coaches? Schiano, Chudzkinski, Pagano

Agreed. Moreover, Butch would likely agree to a contract with no buyout. That would protect UM from its own athletic department.

It's really absurd. Willful ignorance does not even begin to describe what is going on here.

Art Briles in 59. Les Miles is 61. Shoot, with Jim Larranaga at 65 and Jim Morris at 64, Butch would be the junior coach in age. Bring him on. 60 is the new 50.

Saban is 63!

Already mentioned. Where you been? LoL
