Butch Davis to FIU?

LOL at anyone thinking he'd amount to jack crap at FIU. Butch's one quality was assembling talent, and ain't nobody dying to be a Golden Tiger for a washed up coach who hasn't been on the sidelines in over half a decade.

The Butch fanboys remain the most bizarre strain of the Miami fanbase.

I usually agree with you but I think you are going a little overboard with this IMO. There is a good reason people respect his ability to identify and develop talent. Now having said that Butch isn't getting any younger and has been out of coaching for a significant amount of time. Do I think Butch would kill it at FIU? No not really but there is a reason that Davis has supporters based on what he built here.

Good now you butch Davis nut huggers can go leave the site and root for fiu. Ok I applaud butch for building the best team ever but remember throughout our history we have a few teams that could be mentioned as such. Remember the U is much bigger than 1 coach we are not penn state, notre dame or whoever else you want to name. We have won and competed for championships with multiple coaches...

Butch will be 65 in a couple of weeks.

Which is actually a factor for any real opening (not sure it'd be for FIU though). Kinda makes one pause when realizing that'll we're about to elect someone next week that'll be at least 4-5 years older but that someone that age more than likely would be disqualified for the head coaching job at Kentucky or Boston College.

butch needs to swallow his **** head coaching pride and get on this staff

I don't care if he's just a recruiting specialist for us, get with the ***ing program man. You're not getting younger, you wanna right some wrongs? Put the pride away and jump on

I love that Butch got things turned around here but many forget the banners that were flown asking for Butch to be fired.

Butch's one quality was assembling talent

LOL...nope...swing & a miss.

Not only was that not His only quality, that wasn't even His best quality.

His best quality, among other great qualities, was His eye for coaching talent...look at the staff He left behind.

I confess, up front, that I only ever give him credit for player talent evaluation. Never thought about his coaching talent evaluation. Please post that staff.

Off the top of my head...Chud,Pagano,Curtis Johnson,Cristobal,Schiano...all 5 of em' went on to either be College or NFL HCs...don't even see 1 from the last 3 regimes.

You forgot to mention Shannon and Coker. (Even though if I'm not mistaken Shannon was only his dline coach for one year before Jimmy Johnson hired him with the Dolphins.)

However people weren't always particularly fond of his staff. People hated that he waited 3 years to fire Bill Miller. Then once Miller was fired fans turned the ire on the OC, Coker. If Coker had been fired as OC the next logical target would have been Butch himself.

Also none of those people from Butch's tree have been successful head coaches. The most successful has probably been Pagano and he's going to be fired after this year. The only other 2 who have enjoyed even moderate success as head coaches are Coker and Schiano. Curtis Johnson, Randy Shannon, Rob Chudzinski and Mario Cristobal are 4 of the worst head coaches of all time.

Typical Butch....let me float my name out there for ANY JOB that's going to be open. Any of you really think Butch is going to coach at FIU the graveyard of coaching with a 20k stadium. LMAO

I like Butch but I am Cane fan. I do not follow coaches to other schools. His true magic is in combo with The U; I doubt he will do at FIU anything like what he did here. That said, good move for FIU.

UNC appears before NCAA infractions committee panel | News & Observer

Considering UNC just now has had to appear before the NCAA infractions committee, the proverbial **** is about to hit the fan regarding their mega academic scandal. I find it hard to believe anybody is going to be interested in interviewing Butch. At least until after the NCAA hands down their judgement. People seem to think the NCAA investigation at UNC blew over because ESPN doesn't cover it 24/7 like they did with the Shapiro investigation here but they're still facing serious penalties in multiple sports. The infamous "lack of institutional control" charge is there.

Butch Davis would be an outstanding hire for ANY program.

At a program in the state of Florida he's the perfect hire.

I would laugh my *** off each time he beat the Canes.

That would be the only game I'd find humorous, but that would be hilarious.

And well deserved.

We play FIU in 2018. Hmm, little surprised Miami would ever scuedule FIU again after the brawl.

Hopefully they bring back Lamar Thomas for the color commentary on the brawl part two.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FIU–Miami_football_brawl

According to the wiki article Miami now requires any player involved in such a brawl to be suspended for the rest of the year. Not just one game. Dammit.

Honestly I thought the actions of Miami players during the brawl were 100% justified. The only thing I minded is that the players all got suspended for the Duke game and we almost lost as a result.

I think maybe the taking your 'helmet off and beating another guy with it'thing may have been the tipping point on whether it was justified lol. I'd give it like a 90%.

The FIU job is worthless if you don't plan on running an up-tempo spread offense.

Not sure Butch is that guy.

Still would be a massive upgrade over the last guy. I'm not sure he lasted more than a season, let alone got hired. Butch would have the program averaging 9 a year relatively quickly.

FIU needs to hire a spread guru. A young up and comer who can at least make the team exciting even if it's still losing games. Bringing in a 65 year old, who's going to take 4 to 5 years to improve the talent and attempt to run a pro style, power running offense is shooting yourself in the foot.

Brile's son is their best bet in my opinion.

If not, Eddie Gran or James Coley (can't believe I said that) should choices 2 and 3.

I think Briles is probably going to be too hot of a commodity for FIU. Someone is going to throw a lot of money at him. A power 5 may pay him more to be an OC than FIU will pay him to be a head coach.
