Butch Davis to FIU?

Would be a good thing imo. Richt could take a peak at who Butch is targeting from time to time.

The fans that follow Butch to fIU will hate it. THere won't be enough fans to raise money for banne planes l.

Butch's one quality was assembling talent

LOL...nope...swing & a miss.

Not only was that not His only quality, that wasn't even His best quality.

His best quality, among other great qualities, was His eye for coaching talent...look at the staff He left behind.

LOL at anyone thinking he'd amount to jack crap at FIU. Butch's one quality was assembling talent, and ain't nobody dying to be a Golden Tiger for a washed up coach who hasn't been on the sidelines in over half a decade.

The Butch fanboys remain the most bizarre strain of the Miami fanbase.

LOL @ you for thinking he wouldn't. Butch's one quality was having an eye for talent. He would put a nice team together with the guys that slip through the cracks.

And do what with it? What is the biggest win in Butch's storied career?

Other than 2000 FSU I'm not sure there are too many. Maybe 2000 Va Tech although Vick was injured in that game.

Other big wins:

49-45 over #2 UCLA in 1998 (one week after getting slaughtered at Syracuse)
37-20 over #6 Florida in the 2000 season Sugar Bowl

34-31 over #13 WVU @ WV with a probation depleted team.
23-12 over #9 OSU @ Giants Stadium with a probation depleted team.
Hung tough with #3 PSU in 99' till our DB coach who was brown-nosin' Cristobal hard got burnt by Chafie Fields.
Most of UM's wins during those times were big because you guessed it, He had a probation depleted team.

RIcht was the safe choice. The politically correct choice. But Davis assembled the greatest team in college football. Shalala blew him off and he went to Cleveland. Nothing has been the same since.I am a Richt fan and hope he succeeds . But lets say Davis gets the FIU job excels and Richt stumbles .RUH ROH BBB banners will fly again.

I confess, up front, that I only ever give him credit for player talent evaluation. Never thought about his coaching talent evaluation. Please post that staff.

Off the top of my head...Chud,Pagano,Curtis Johnson,Cristobal,Schiano...all 5 of em' went on to either be College or NFL HCs...don't even see 1 from the last 3 regimes.

I especially like the innovation and forward thinking that went into his John Shoop offensive coordinator hire.

Next thing ya know we're gonna start hearing how Bruce Arians comes from the Butch Davis coaching tree.

Coaches that rely on finding diamonds in the rough don't last long in today's college landscape. There are rarely diamonds in the rough to be found, because people know about guys now, even those that play at small schools, even those that may be misused by their high school coaches. Butch would be best case the fifth best option for instate talent. Even if Richt turns out to be a greasefire(Which is unlikely, considering his career trajectory), FIU will never outrecruit Miami.

You realize that Shalala hadn't even taken office by the time Butch left right? Shalala was brand spanking new, she had just been named to the job when Butch left. Remember, as a cabinet member, she worked until the end of the Clinton presidency. I wish our "Fans" would do some **** research before running their mouths.

While Butch is a great talent evaluator, he aint doing **** at FIU. No one will. What would they sell. He can go down there, go 7-5 or 6-6, and be considered awesome. No real studs want to go to FIU.
