Butch Boys

Forston told the world what that freckled **** said. Other people heard him too. I guess they’re all lying because they had it in for Booch.
That's the first I've heard of that specifically related to Butch. I remember Forston saying at the time that everyone was negatively recruiting about the "dangerous" environment in Miami. He even stated "I'm from the Pork n Beans projects and they're claiming it'll be dangerous on Coral Gables".

Yep. That's how I remember it. Everyone was talking about the "dangers" of Miami. Similar to Chuck Amato using the Marlin Barnes incident against us. While it mentioned Butch was recruiting him, no where in the article did it attribute a Sean Taylor, Brian Pata quote to Butch. In fact, if anything, he mentions Doc Holliday (from UF) and called him "snake eyes",

People were so butt hurt about Butch at the time (and maybe still are) they're quick to assume the worse.

I hate Chuck Amato.

If Vegas called it even then they must think the difference maker is Butch and his staff, because Tulane clearly has a lot more talent on that field. This is hilarious to me the way you slurp coaches here and they can do no wrong, but then you call others out for caping for Butch. I can only imagine what you where saying when Butch is here. "Butch is the greatest game day coach of all time, don't mock him fvckface".

You’re digging your heels in an untenable position - as usual. I don’t cape for anybody, I’m just not a constantly bltching on-the-rag female.

It’s the same people upvoting the fire Manny Diaz thread to get him back here.

They’d rather us crash and burn than succeed so it paves the way for the return of their messiah.
Now this is BS......from my perspective hes never coaching here and I love me some Butch but its too late. Im starting even to realize not even Butch would of been able to save this program. There isnt alot of coaches that i can think off the top of my head that can save this program.

This made me mad weak lol

U know me i dont slurp if butch sucks he sucks right now. If Diaz sucks he sucks ill call it. No slurping here them days been over. Lol that last quote u wylin

Tulane is not a comparable program to FIU. Yes, but he gets the talent here after it is depleted by the P5 teams and the AAC teams. AAC compared to C-USA is a big step up.

I am far from a booch sniffer. I never defend him unless it is warranted. I didn't even want him to come back and coach at the U.

Step away from this take, man. The talent on those rosters is very similar, and, if anything, appears to favor FIU by a very narrow margin.

And I am not familiar with Tulane's recent transfer history, but I know Borch has been pulling in kids from P5 schools since his arrival at FIU (this year he pulled in Josh Turner, former 3* DB .8238, Maleek Williams, former 3* DB .8551, and Alexy Jean-Baptiste, former 3* OLB .8564) . I don't follow Tulane football, but I doubt Willie Fritz is getting transfers at that level.

Jimmy Johnson might have been better. Butch might have learned it from Jimmy.
its possible, when we were getting the best guys BD was around the team. Thing is if he was here I dont know if he would be able to beat bags different era different time different UM.

Sorry I’m confused, so Butch can only win when/if he’s at a P5 school? I’m not bagging on Mr Davis, just questioning why he would be a great coach in one vein but has a built in excuse in another. The guy did right by Miami when he was coach. But that’s light years ago. If he was a great one, and wanted to move back up to P5 wouldn’t he try to win games rather than get swamped in his 3rd season? Legitimately asking D, he should have a built in advantage over other G5 schools being that he coached at the P5 level and should know what it takes to get every ounce out of his players, if to some people’s point all talent is equal at the G5 level. See I don’t see if that way and like I said, I loved Butch...back 20yrs ago. I know some have their agenda, I’m not one of them. I am legit wondering how he could get boat raped like he did, clearly didn’t have the team ready to play, and should have some afforded advantages given where he recruits in South Florida, even if it’s the 2* and 3* players the other bigger schools don’t recruit.
Some coaches became great only after they came to the U where they could get great talent. Jimmy had a fairly good record at Oklahoma State, not great.

True about bags.

Butch was recruiting coordinator for Jimmy first couple years, then they gave the job to Dave Scott who was from the baseball program, I believe.

Back in '89, Sally Jenkins of the Washington Post, told me about how Jimmy could just look at a player's feet and evaluate. He could even tell by looking at parents. Uncanny.

Sally was one of the very best college football writers ever. She covered the Hurricanes because we were tops nationally. She was just a perceptive, talented writer and she loved the Canes. She loved our brashness and pride, and couldn't give a **** attitude. (What she told me privately).

Sally's father, Dan Jenkins, was one of the great football writers, ever. I think he wrote Semi-Tough.

The late '80's Canes were once-in-a-lifetime.

This is a bait thread to get people butt hurt that like Butch, I love me some Butch but everyone with a brain knows its FIU they will always be trash no matter who coaches there.
Bruh, love Butch or not, a team full of South Fl recruits shouldn't be getting blown out by Tulane. You telling me the 2/3 star non P5 dudes around New Orleans and Shreveport are that much better than the 2/3 star non P5 dudes from South FL?

Some coaches can't just transfer whatever magic they had at the right place/right time to another setting. See: Chip Kelly, Charlie Strong, Butch, **** even Spurrier.. And the jury is still very much out on Herman and Fuente.
