He coached Corn Elder from an inconsistent athlete to an elite football player. He coached Adrian Colbert from a future desk job to a rising star NFL DB. He coached Mike Jackson from an attrition candidate into a preseason All-Conference player. Losing those kids was a failure. A big one. But you get fired for bad results on the field. That hasn't happened yet, and I don't think it will with studs like Gilbert Frierson, Al Blades and DJ Ivey

Elder was already really good before he got here. I don't think he improved drastically in his one year under RumF. Colbert did well. Could be his skillset combined with a change of scenery/scheme or it could be coaching.. Who knows?! Mike Jackson might have just been undervalued by Canes fan. I don't put too much stock into a select player here or there improving.. especially when others are regressing. You can't just take the good and throw out the bad or vice versa. His resume is suspect at best.

Elder was not really good before this staff got here.

LOL....ok.

Go watch the film. Yall dudes do not know football. Elder was on pace to go undrafted under golden.

In the last 2 years, there have been 6 kids from Dade and Broward who were ranked in the top 10 in the state. We signed zero. If you include 2016 as well, even though this staff only had 2 months, there were another 3. So in in the last 3 years, there have been a total of 9 kids from Dade & Broward ranked in the top 10 in the state and we signed 0.

In the last 2 years, we have signed 1 kid ranked in the top 10 in the state. If you include 2016, we still only signed 1 kid ranked in the top 10 in the state of Florida over a 3 year period.

So, over 3 years we have not signed a single kid from Dade or Broward who was ranked in the top in the state. And we have signed 1 kid ranked in the top 10 of the state over the same period of time.

Just pointing out facts, nothing else. But, if you want to compete with the BAMA's, CLEMSON's and now UGA's of the world, the first step you need to take is lock down ELITE talent in your very own backyard in and in your state. Yeah, a number 5 or 6 recruiting class is great, but you still cannot whiff on this amount of talent in your own backyard and state and ever expect to compete with the big boys. Especially considering that this staff is not elite.

This, really thought this might change with Richt, nope.

Wow DMoney. Don’t agree at all. Been in this game for a long time, since Grassy, and that is just not a good take. Shocking actually.

How many of you guys have seen any of our signees or PS2 or Campbell in person? Guys are ing and moaning about kids they've never seen or watch play in person. We got some savages for DBs and i challenge anyone to tell me the difference (aside from recruiting rankings) between PS2, Campbell, Frierson, Hall and Al Blades, Jr. I can't wait to read the responses.

You lock down elite talent by winning. While this is extremely disappointing, every position group got better this year. I think the blueprint that Richt is trying to implement is clear - high octane offense with a D that forces sacks, QB hurries, and turnovers. I'm a bigger fan of dominant defenses, but to get there, we need to continue shoring up our OL and find a system QB that can consistently allow our playmakers to do what they do best.

The coaches have made steady improvements on the field and in recruiting every year. Let's see what our boys do on the field in 2018.

Meh. Fire him. He's replaceable at this point. He can't win head to head recruiting battles. He obviously can't pull AH kids. Is he an amazing technician? I don't think so. We got roasted by teams who could slow our pass rush. I've always been down on him. I've never bought what he was selling. His interviews are excruciating.

Everyone tells us to be patient. That sounds a lot like when people told us to be patient with Golden. He still hasn't won a head to head battle. Hall told Saban to **** off. Frierson was born a hurricane. Ivey was under the radar. Blades is self explanatory. Get someone better. There has to be someone better based on his results until this point.

Yep.

In life, you get it done or you don't.

92]I expect to see people calling for Rumph's head. I don't agree at all, but I get the reaction. Losing those two monsters from his old school was a failure. I also expect to see the usual suspects complaining about South Florida kids choosing to leave town.

Here is the hard truth. If your son is an engineering prodigy, you can't blame him for going to MIT. Alabama and Georgia were in the championship. Saban is the best DB coach alive. These kids want to win championships and go pro.

Drink some hard lemonade for your hard truth.

Saban hasn't coached the DB's in YEARS and has had a top flight DB coach there every year.

There is no excuse for missing those 2 DB's.[/QUOTE]

You're not getting any of these 5-star guys buy turning around Mike Jackson from attrition candidate to contributor or Colbert from desk job to NFL job. Saban is taking this kids in and pumping them out as 1st round picks. It's entirely different levels. Chess not checkers man.

that pos car salesman has eclipse anything any school has ever done, i fuqin hate that guy so much.

Corn was good before but inconsistent, he was much improved under Rumph. Colbert looked like he belonged at a D3 school and is now starting in the NFL. Young and Jackson both looked like walk ons when they showed up and now Jackson is the #1 rated CB for the NFL draft next year and Young was top 10 for his class before he got hurt
Much of that is attributed to playing in a different scheme. I don't have all their tape, but it's highly unlikely Colbert got here and had his entire technique overhauled. Corn's technique looked about the same; just used differently. Jackson is their best sell right now. Young looked the same, technique-wise, from the first time I watched him practice as a true Frosh. I'm not taking a shot at Rumph's position coaching because I don't know enough about his responsibilities. I'm merely stating what a player "looks" like often has a lot to do with the scheme they're asked to play in.

Colbert and Young couldn’t cover anyone when they got here. Their athleticism was apparent but football wise they both looked awful. I consistently had my way with both of them and there were obviously a lot better receivers than me there. Both started to turn the corner about 1/3-halfway through the year and then started looking tremendous

Why do the other defensive coaches get a pass?

Simple, Bama, UGA, Clemson, OSU and others are still perceived as the better programs.

We are making our way back, but have to get over a hurdle or two.

Our end of the season, that certainly didn't help. I think had we won the Pitt game as well as our bowl game, we would've had a better shot at some of the AH guys.

Watch the defense this year. If anyone thinks Diaz is more competent than whoever at OSU, Bama, Clemson, UGA....let me know. Diaz will have to prove he's not a busy this year and his job got a lot harder without Surtain and Campbell.

They're not PERCIEVED as better programs.... they ARE better programs.

They win more and recruit better. We did nothing today to close that gap.

I agree with them being better programs. All you have to do is look at the **** show at the end of the season minus Clemson who would've won no matter who was coaching us.

The problem with putting the blame on Rumph to me is this. You could put any coach in his position and it wouldn't matter. We are still Miami who is fighting an uphill battle against the powerhouse programs. Until we prove we belong with them, we are at a disadvantage in a head to head battle.

Surtain and Campbell weren't picking Bama and UGA's DB coaches over us, they were picking Saban and Smart. The way we got mauled by Clemson to see them dismantled in the BCS, that didn't help either.

Sucks, but that's the premise of this thread. They made a business decision and while we might not like it, they made the right one.

And how the **** do you propose we get to that level? We sure as **** aren't "out coaching" anyone, so we need to "out talent" people. It's painfully obvious we aren't getting to that talent level any time soon, so here we are. It's the chicken before the egg scenario.

The issue is the numbers - not the players we have.

Much like the issue with the DL is the lack of numbers - not the players we have signed.

That IS the issue.

Losing out on the two 5 star CB's that played for Rumph is bad, embarrassing, just totally sickening. You can't sugar coat it in any way. Not being able to see the **** Jobe was doing really concerned me. He should have been dropped long before he played us. Not being on Samuel Jr. hard from day one was just stupid. I'm really excited for the secondary guys who we did get. Overall a very very good class. Need Chatman.

What really baffles me is why the hometown kids play us or **** on us publicly. I don't get it. I pray for bad karma to JJ, TC & PS2 and the families. They went the A-hole route instead of what could have been a legendary moment that would have never been forgotten by their city.
