Bruce Feldman Says a Loss to UL puts Golden on THE HOT SEAT

So we lose to Louisville but win coastal. Fire Golden.... Wait

Sorry...but in year 4 of a regime at Miami you shouldn't be losing to THAT Louisville team.

Winning the ****** *** coastal wouldn't make that any better of a loss.....no matter how much sunshine the Don Bailey Jr disciples want to shine on it.

Old "get off my lawn" *** nlgga. Shut up. You sound like a fat girl. "I can't leave him, what if I can't do any better!?"

You want Miami to "settle" on a coach? Coach sucks you fire him and start over. Period. I'm sure you were one of the many last year pointing to our top 5 class and how losing Golden to Penn St would hurt it. It fell anyway.

You don't retain a loser. You clean house and go after it again. This is a competitive football power, not a pop warner team. Produce, or pack your stuff. This loser mentality and mindset of accepting mediocrity is terrifying. You're part of the problem.

So we lose to Louisville but win coastal. Fire Golden.... Wait

Sorry...but in year 4 of a regime at Miami you shouldn't be losing to THAT Louisville team.

Winning the ****ty *** coastal wouldn't make that any better of a loss.....no matter how much sunshine the Don Bailey Jr disciples want to shine on it.

This. Winning a ****** division in a ****** conference is our standards now.

Golden is no where near the hot seat even with a L to UL.. Donna, James, & the BOT absolutely love Golden.
James, yes. Donna, used to for sure and still maybe but psu thing changed that abit, and the board is not universally in love with him still, not by a long shot.

Oh yeah, there is also the big booster part to this. They want wins before they die.

The seat is neither hot nor cold right now. It is a weird in between state of flux. In the opinion of the admin, if he loses to Louisville in a respectable showing (10 points or less) his seat will barely start to warm up. If he gets his brain bashed in like the Russell Athletic Bowl, the seat will officially be classified as warm. The Board of Trustees in particular wants to win immediately. Getting embarrassed on national TV again will melt away their already waning faith. While I hope/expect a 34-31 Miami win, if we assume the team loses, margin of defeat and quality of play will be the most closely analyzed factor rather than just the score alone.

President Shalala was ****ed about Penn State. It made her look incompetent. Her employee was MIA and not responding to the school. I've said it before and I'll say it again but her quote of, "We don't know anything yet." to the media about 5 hours after Blake James said he was chit chatting with Al regularly should tell you all you need to know.

The admin loved Golden. LOVED him. They gave him the world while here, by their standards, and he dealt with the NCAA during that saga. Penn State was viewed as a betrayal by them. The unity that they thought they had developed was tarnished. The office, both the athletic office and academic office, was flooded with bashing Al Golden emails when he came back. In Miami history, coaches that have left since we've been The U have either been pro football bound or fired. For Golden to look at another college job, alma mater or not, after getting the sweetest, highest paying contract for a football coach in school history, and getting placed on a pedestal after winning nothing was infuriating to many.

The admin knows the team is good enough to win 11 games with relative ease. Golden has personally pumped up how great the team is to them with quality, highly sought after players at every position. Questions at various positions including OL and QB mean nothing to the admin. The man in charge told them how good the team is going to be this year. Therefore, the admin expects to win this year and win big. He talked a big game. They think it's time for him to deliver. Many people on here are pretty split on whether he will or wont.

Assuming the season does tank, fan response would be a major contributor as to whether Golden was retained. A lot of boosters were enraged about Penn State. These boosters are fans of the University of Miami first and foremost and it appeared to them that Golden made the school look bad in favor of an inferior institution in Penn State. Golden still has some important, high profile people on his side, but they want wins now. Season ticket sales be damned. If people stop going if the season tanks, which I hope it doesn't, and there is a USF like showing for the Pittsburgh game, the fanbase is clearly unhappy and the sports admin will have to act.

Whoever said that finding another coach would be difficult is full of it and should go root for another team. This is and should be a destination job, not a stepping stone. When Golden was missing, multiple coaches and outstanding coaches at that were inquiring about the position. This is very different from past coaching changes. Nobody wanted to replace Shannon because talent was thin and expectations unfair. If anything would scare coaches away, it would be the firing of Coker with his 59-15 record, national championship, and high graduation rates. From the admin's perspective, they are dedicated to winning, a point many people here debate. They just pumped in $40,000,000 to upgrade the facilities and make us competitive recruiting wise. Do you think a school with limited financial resources is going to invest this while having a coach that isn't winning and fans have lost faith in? If so, then I guess the admin isn't dedicated to winning, which I can tell you is an outright falsehood.

People making the Butch comparisons with banners and records need to stop. The situations aren't even close to similar.

So I'll say it again. Golden is on a neutral, room temperature seat right now. Losing to Louisville wont heat it up anymore than a rough loss would. Getting blown out, again, would be giving it some noticeable warmth. But the admin is cautiously optimistic that this season will be an overwhelming success, as they should be. They expect wins this year and they think that Al Golden will deliver them this year.

this may be the most accurate post ever placed on this site. It's **** spot on, balanced between the devotees of ag and the haters, and actually has it's basis in reality. Anyone arguing that they know first hand that al is safe no matter what needs to get new inside sources. It isn't likely, but it ain't that unlikely either if he does what last year came to again, unless half the team gets injured. Season ticket base means nothing if the stands are painted with ghosts.

Can't disagree with either post. Golden said when he got the UM gig that it was a 'destination job', well, he made UM look like like a MAC school and that's where he made a huge mistake in my book. Personally, I've gotten over it and I'm still firmly in his corner but I still expect a very good year from UM. ( Can't have it both ways, say that Golden is doing a great job and then being satisfied with a 7 win season, sorry, that's being wishy washy. I like this team a lot, 7 wins to me is a buzzkill.)

I'll say it again, that Penn St dalliance, whether its his alma mater or not, the way he left the program in a lurch, was bad. No two ways about it

But the reality is, winning cures a lot of ills and gives fans amnesia

This is a HUGE year for him, no doubt.

This is so idiotic.

If Golden proves he's not the guy this season, you do not retain him. Period. I don't give a **** if, in YOUR mind, there's as small as a 1% chance of finding the right guy, that's still 1% more than what we would have with a proven failure as a coach.

This line of thinking is so bizarre.

THINK OF THE CHILDREN*!!!

Why are "The people who give money to the program" stupid enough to want Golden if Labor Day is Russell Bowl Part Duex? I'd then say said folks want the program to fail, and we don't need that kinda money.

I predict an empty stadium for FAMU and Arky St. if so. Those must be big donations if the butts in the seats have no say. ;)

And if any of you think a 2-2 Canes team is gonna muster 30,000 for Duke, then you are taking the pot.

Winning is the answer for Golden. Losing early and often and he is fin.

Dude why are you so negative? You must be a fun guy to hang out with.

Well...Smokey's opinion is at least based on recent evidence. Yeah..I know. New season and all. But the guys promising a victory on Sept 1 in the other thread are on the opposite side of the spectrum of acting retarded.

Well, I don't know about that, but IMO, it certainly sets the tone for the rest of the season( or at least the first month)

But regardless, why dont we let this season play out first before putting out any hot seats?

Where the **** u been mang? ****, miss your posts.

Barring an on-field melee like the FIU debacle under Coker, the UL game will have zero impact on Golden's future, in isolation. Now if the team goes on to crap the bed the rest of the season, sure, it will likely be factored into the equation. But it's pretty silly to think that he would be on the hot seat for losing to Louisville in game 1 if they rebound and make it to the ACCCG.

And so far, the fans have been right in these scenarios.

Quality post and it's reassuring to read that boosters and trustees feel much the same as devoted fans. The Penn State flirtation was a shocking development at the time because it clearly showed that Golden wasnt entirely committed to being in the foxhole with the rest of us.

He had talked such a good game and endured the persecution with the rest of us so much so that he earned an extension and we lost sight of the fact that he has his own aspirations. Dude did not come to UM to watch his career DIAF. For that reason alone - I have hopes that this season will be an improvement. But do I trust him? No (and not ever again). A move to another CFB program was an insult. Esp. to a hated institution.

I didn't say they think he should lose, I said they expect him to.

Those who expect him to lose expect him to lose because they think he sucks and isn't qualified to be UM's HC. They don't expect him to lose because they think UL should be a better program than UM.

I know exactly why they expect him to lose.

There is a difference in losing the fans vs. the team, and also losing the fans vs. the administration.

He won't lose any after one game.
- he already lost the fans
- administration won't react after one game
- teams don't lose faith one game into a season

He has to win games to stick around. Losing the Louisville game will not create the drama many are starting in here.

You are kidding yourself AI if he loses this game like he did the bowl game. Now I don't think that will happen, but if it did it would play out bad for him.

So you mean CIS and other Cane websites will be flooded with anti-Golden rhetoric and upheaval? Former players and local coaches and media will hate on him?

The torrent of negativity is already bubbling and many jackals are merely waiting to see what happens before going all in. Many of those still on the fence will join the legion of the miserable if we lose to UL. It'll get ugly fast.

You underestimate the power of a hopeless fan base. Many were saying the same stuff you are before the fans got Coker and Shannon fired.

Good post, but since when did not getting beat too badly by a nothing program like UL who is breaking in a whole new staff and lost all their best players the standard at UM?

I can assure you that any sort of loss to this UL team at this time will start an avalanche of fan revolt. And, ultimately, the fans will call the shots here just as we did with Coker and Shannon.

This UL game is so huge. Most will think if we can't beat a depleted UL team breaking in an entirely new offense, defense, and special teams that we really will have no hope to win the coastal. Whether they're wrong or right about that will be meaningless because that will be the reality of perception.

That sounds about right 'Chise. Nothing since our last championship indicates that UM will just let a coach stand in mediocrity into perpetuity. The fans ultimately put too much pressure on the admins. So whether you all love Golden and think he turns it around in year 10 or hate him and knew he wouldn't in minute 10....

It doesn't matter. Reality will, as usual, be in the middle and we are approaching that. Golden doesn't get much more pressure free time. This is about the time the fans start to boil and as 'Chise just said. You can see the cooktop turning on...just a hint of red.

Those who expect him to lose expect him to lose because they think he sucks and isn't qualified to be UM's HC. They don't expect him to lose because they think UL should be a better program than UM.

Chise, not underestimating anything with the fan base. Lots of smart fans having strong opinions based on on the field performance. Lots of angry fans frustrated from years of mediocrity - some yelling 4 years like Golden got the keys to a Ferrari and turned it into a Yugo, others just tired of not being great. But there are also a lot of loud mouth idiots who ran their mouth that have been getting their ****s knocked in for 10 years now following the previous 10-15 years of being the biggest ******** you ever dealt with.

Fans will not be happy with a loss. Many won't be happy with a win. But flying a banner after game 1 may look more like the Fire Butch banner than the Randy USF protest to both the administration and the pundits. I also feel the losing the team talks after 1 game is a huge exaggeration.

******** and schtick dealers around here like my stalker Zone "I love Stephen Morris" 3Cane mistake me for a Golden apologist because I don't want every thread deteriorated into bull****, but make no mistake - Golden needs to win ******* football games. A lot of them.

Don't think AG is going to be on the Hot Seat anytime soon, but it's important that the media start talking about it. This might motivate AG to light a fire under his BFF.

The fans have dictated team direction. Coker was fired when we wanted him fired. Shannon was fired when we wanted him fired. Golden will go the same route when he loses the fans completely. And so far, the fans have been right in these scenarios.

The buyout would not stunt that amount of money. Do you think a school with limited financial resources is going to invest that much while having a coach that isn't winning and fans have lost faith in? If so, then I guess the admin isn't dedicated to winning, which I can tell you is an outright falsehood. Furthermore, the admin doesn't feel we would be starting over. This isn't Shannon taking over for Coker where talent was thin or Golden taking over for Shannon where talent was even thinner. The roster is stacked, almost top to bottom, with an enormous amount of talent. 2015 is satisfactory to most and 2016 is ridiculously good. While early, many in the admin believe the class could be maintained enough with certain delicate changes.

They expect wins this year and they think that Al Golden will deliver them this year.

this is great insight and it seem reasonable to me.

just a minor point about golden betraying the president and the AD during the penn state flirt session. this may be true, however, didn't the school betray him by not advising him of the shapiro issue when they hired him? if i'm golden there was little to no loyalty after that "failure to communicate". he might have felt that he owed UM nothing. just saying.
