Bruce Feldman Says a Loss to UL puts Golden on THE HOT SEAT

Great recruiting + bad head coaching = Ron Zook.

All the dudes who only care about recruiting need to realize at some point within 4 years you need to see that recruiting prowess pay off on the football field.

I'll say it again, those who are still firmly behind Golden( and I'm still one of them) cant have it both ways: say that Golden is building up the roster-- which I believe he is and has done a very good job in tough circumstances -- but then at the same time not expect on-field results that reflect that.

Both, have to go together.

A 7-win season to me is a buzzkill in 2014

If we lose to UL best to fire him ASAP bc we ain't winning 8 games if we can't beat them

Agreed. And, I'm still not sold on Golden as a great recruiter. Good recruiter, yeah. Thus far, good recruiter + bad coaching = Al Golden

Dynasty, what's good, sir?!?!

Onto your point, couldn't that have been said about Butch around 1998 or 1999? I know some will hate to hear this, but this story still has to be written in regards to Golden. Wasn't Butch oh-and-10 in his first five years vs FSU and Vatech? When the players got better, suddenly so did his success as a coach

Bottom line, the quality of players matters and all indications are that Golden is improving the material he has to work with

This roster still isnt complete, but just look at the upgrade at defensive back from the time he got here. Yes, other positions( like DT) are lagging behind but I think it's hard to argue that this staff hasn't upgraded the talent across the board

But regardless, it's time he starts putting up results in the W and L column

No doubt, 9er. Life's decent, bruh. It's time to start winning, period. Davis was a bad gameday coach. too. He is a defensive coach by profession. Both had/have questions regarding the defense. Davis added more juice defensively, and we had a triggerman at the offensive controls in Dorsey. History was made. It's time for the defense to carry this program back to prominence and perhaps the promised land. The D must lead the way.

If kaaya is the real D, then, the offense is stable. Let the D pay with heart, speed and force. It's time.....

I think that's the key- do we have another Dorsey?( whether it's Kaaya or anyone else)?

Coaches suddenly get a lot smarter when they have great quarterbacks, it's funny how that works, isn't?

But just look at the offensive weapons this season, all UM really needs is a reliable ball distributor who wont muck things up

We are deep and very good at a lot of positions.
But he has failed at recruiting DTs
And we have a battle bn a third school transfer and true freshman at qb. And all of us are praying our Memphis transfer comes back quick from an acl tear.
I wouldn't call that across the board.

My hope is Kaaya is the man because we can't afford another miss at quarterback. He doesn't have to be Dorsey-like...a more accurate Erickson type would work offensively with the skill surrounding him.

Also, Butch Davis. Butch was not the best gameday coach either. Regardless, a Zook or Davis would set the next coach up really well.

This is the first year in which all the demands for on field improvement are justified. Everything else in the previous 3 years has been the usual bytching and moaning for a fanbase that feels the program runs on autopilot and should be reinventing the 80's on the field every year.

I start to judge Golden this year.....and this opening game is a big one for him IMHO.

Butch knows how to build a staff and when to cut bait when a coordinator isn't doing his job.

One of the dumbest things I've read on this board. Coaches are judged more on when they have less, not more.

Like Nick Saban's first year at Alabama, right? That's the real Nick Saban because he had less. Forget the 14-0 team.

You're a real smart one.

Not that it changes your overall point but does anyone really care if Ryan Williams comes back? He's pretty much irrelevant now that Heaps is here and given Kaaya's strong performance this summer.

Antwan, are you stalking me. Sorry dude, I don't swing that way. Great coaches will do more with less moron. You might as well post to your name, I'm new to CFB. Other than it is obvious.

Is Feldman financing the payout? After the B.S. we've been through the last 3 years, Al will get a couple of years to turns this around. Anybody that follows the Canes would understand that, so he's just throwing his made up story out there to get attention. I can get better news on the Canes form some posters on this website than the imposters on the others. It would would be a more legit story if were Cory Feldman reporting, his eyes pertruding from the grave.

Cory Feldman dead?

Eh, if Golden gets canned we have enough talent for the next coach to make a run.

Hopefully we hire Pat Narduzzi if that happens :)

You're the reason why there should be a qualifying test to post on message boards. You really think that coaches are judged by their less-talented years. Let's put it this way.......Nick Saban is a Hall of Famer because he won championships, not because he was somewhat competitive when the talent was down. But you don't get that.

Didn't he lose to Louisiana Monroe in his first year?

Exactly. But Miami82 judges coaches when they have less talent.

That was certainly less with less

Anyone want to look up Saban's record at Mich St his first few years? Wasn't all that impressive
