BOT / Highsmith for AD

Alonso would be a home run hire. The man has worked in Green Bay for years which is a great organization. You bringing in a football mind to fix this mess. Also, the man has a great eye for talent. Could also assist in player procurement and development. Give the man the keys to the program. Let some minion run the other sports programs.

This is somewhat the summary of what was said last night. Highsmith would be more a CEO type AD - he apparently would want to bring Jesse Marks back to oversee fundraising and donations. He supposedly has someone else in mind, too. No name mentioned there. Highsmith would oversee Football and have other assistant ADs to run the rest of the sports, etc.

My point bring it he were hired, I'd have confidence it's under different terms than Blake with the BOT. He wouldn't accept to be someones *****.

lol i doubt it. theyre all puppets till the BOT let go. i also dont have any faith that hed hire the right coaches only bc i havent seen him ever do it. im done with new guys learning. experience only.

danny white is better at the AD job than Zo and has done pretty **** well running a football program. you dont think he can fix UM if given the autonomy required to do a functional job?
Brother, we all want the same thing a competent and winning program. The issue is finding the right individual who ever it is. Some people want to Find an AD that has college experience. Others would rather go with a person with NFL / football centric experience. The bottom line is doing something because the way it is run now is a total unmitigated disaster.

Only Miami fans would cry incessantly about hiring a coach with no experience only to clamor for an AD with none because he was here when the football team was good 30 years ago. Never change, fellas.

I don't think this is fair.

He has done very well in an administrative roll at the NFL level. We could do much worse. Funny story.......we did.....smfh

Love Alonzo but pass on him as AD at this moment. Although he would be a significant upgrade over Flake James, I don't see him doing anything other than bringing in a bunch of former Canes. All this Miami connection crap has gotten us nowhere. Every coach we've hired the in the last 20 years was a Miami connection guy (minus Golden) and it's killed the program. Promoted Clappy because the players wanted him. Promoted Shannon because the players wanted him and he was a Cane lifer. Hired a burnt out Richt because he played here. Now this mess we have with Manny. Time for this program to go out and get someone who has built winning programs before, don't care about being connected to Miami.

Danny White would be excellent....

... please don't keep repeating the stupidity of the past and hire somebody who has had zero experience on the job..

..Cane or no Cane connections
Agreed we need an AD who has a football background, but who can manage all sports.

on The Canesport call in podcast a caller indicated that Alonzo Highsmith had expressed interest in miami’s AD position if it became available.

He also discussed how there seems to be disagreement within the BOT on the direction of the program, with two members pushing hard to get Cristobal, and fairly upset that a legitimate search wasn’t performed by Blake.

He also detailed Blake James’ ascension into the AD role. He certainly doesn’t seem qualified now, or when he was initially hired.

Just passing along the info.

At the end of the day, what I take is that the only hope for real change is for Manny to continue crapping the bed and we lose out. That’s my opinion

If Highsmith would actually take the AD job, that would be a dream scenario. He's certainly got the experience in managing high level sports organizations, and the connections to get things done and to bring in the right people.

We're destined to end up like USCw and Michigan. Neither program had the common sense to look outside their alumni base and because of it they've been led by incompetent administrators and coaches for years. We're destined to end up with Cristoball being our HC.

There are better, more qualified candidates than those who attended UM!

Him being an Alumni is not the reason for being a quality hire. Look at the mans resume.

He would be an instant upgrade over James. Not because he's a former great player, but because of what he's accomplished since his playing days. In my opinion, he would be a homerun hire. A walk off grand slam in the bottom of the ninth, hire.
