Bostwick and Kirkland

Sorry fellas. I love Golden. Great recruiter. I'm all in with coach, but if he doesn't land either Bryant or Bostwick (should have had 2 frosh DTs of this caliber), then it's a massive fail. The expectation is what it is regardless of effort. Bryant/ Bostwick, at a minimum one of them, is an absolute neccessity.

That's a massive overreaction.

It's not at all. It's the one area of the team where we've really failed to bring in difference makers under Golden and Franklin. It could be the difference between a good year and a special year in 2014, 2015, 2016. Three years of recruiting failure here is a serious, legitimate issue.

We don't really know that The Don has failed to bring in difference makers at DT because the guys he's brought in haven't been here long enough to determine whether or not they are difference makers. Warren Sapp wasn't a difference maker as a freshman or sophomore. Neither were any of our other great DTs and neither are most of the great DTs in college ball over the years.

Agree with this. You rarely see much from DTs until year 3 (unless they are freaks like Wilfork). Pierre took a nice little jump at the end of last year and had showed little previously.

That said bringing in quality DTs every year is important to get them in them started in the program so they are ready when their number is called. Bostwick and Bryant are important, hope we get at least one. I believe in Al.

All of what Franchise said. We have four DTs on the roster who are rising second year players. We're not desperate for numbers. We're desperate for difference-makers. We don't know if those guys will or won't be. Go find me an impact DT who was a significant contributor in years 1 and 2. He'll be the exception, by far. I can't think of a single one off the top of my head.

Furthermore, a monster DT is a very, very nice piece to have, but not a necessity. You can win big if you have solid, but unspectacular DTs with great DE talent next to them. See, Bama this year.

I think it's completely reasonable to say if we miss out on both Bostwick and Bryant it's a huge preliminary failure by Golden, but we won't know if it's an actual failure until 2-3 years from now. If Kamalu and Brooks (if we get him) develop into great DTs in 2014 and 2015, I won't care who didn't commit this year.

i'm totally speculating here but i wonder if bostwick is being scared off by our glut of defensive tackles. none of them look particularly great or anything but there is a ton of them. UF's depth there is less pronounced even tho they're bringing some guys in this year.

idk just something to chew on.

Bostwick- I'm not too confident but there's time to change that

Kirkland- that stuff Ferman is saying about him "not being a priority" is so wrong. Yeah, there's a chance he might not end up here (as there is with all these kids), but if he doesn't then it won't be for a lack of recruiting him hard enough. Miami wants him badly. I was told months ago there were some grades concerns on the low, so I'm not sure if that could be a hold-up, and I also posted last night in the NSD Buzz Thread that the staff is trying to work on his step-dad who is kind of unsure about Miami. In the end, I still think he winds up a Cane.

What the **** happened?

None of these Bostwick updates mean anything since he is set to visit this weekend, unless they are saying he is cancelling.

I can roll with this.

It would be failure to not land any of those kids. Especially when we turned away other likes like Bain and Senat who were a tier below Bryant and Bostwick. Ending up with more Darius Smiths isn't gonna get it done. No I don't expect Bryant ir Bostwick to be dominate in year 1 but that doesn't mean its ok to whiff on them. I just don't understand why legit DTs are avoiding us like the plague. You have to go back to 2009 with Porter to find a good DT prospect. Robinson wasn't a bad pick up back then either. He was just lazy once he got here. Unless we start to develop guys like Pierre, King and Ivey it will be another long year for this defense and missing guys like Bostwick and Bryant will turn that long year into a string of long years.

At the same time, I am not a fan of getting lower tiered players just to fill a spot either. If the staff didn't want them, then they must not have been good enough. I don't care about stars, I care about the staff's evals...

Gotta love recruiting. 9 months ago everyone was looking forward to our 'KIller B's' DT class of Bain, Bryant, and Bostwick. Now, it's very possible we don't land any of them.

SMH.

Reminds me if the Brandon Harris, Patrick Johnson, and the kid that ended up at USC, from Tally I think, that everyone thought we were going to land in the end.

TJ Bryant.

No room for Janoris Jenkins because we were getting Harris, Johnson, and Bryant.

Those were the days.
