Blaming the good players

Kaaya has better pocket presence and makes quicker decisions.
Agree with the latter, strongly disagree with the former. Pocket presence means 2 things - one, you hang in as long as you can and make a good throw...and two, you get out of the pocket, keep your eyes downfield, and make a good throw. Kaaya has rarely (if ever) done #2 while at Miami. It's heroic for a QB to stand in, take a shot, and deliver a dime...but sometimes--Kaaya could move just outside of the pocket and make the same throw w/o taking damage. His first instinct IF he moves seems to be to move 10 yards backwards. That's the exact opposite of pocket presence.

I don't think Miami's OL is anywhere near those three teams right now.
Well, yeah. If anyone is arguing that our OL is as good as any of those, they deserve to be taken out behind the shed and beaten.

Kaaya might not even break the top 10 list of our all-time quarterbacks, but the slurping for him is unreal.

Dorsey, Gino, Vinny, Bernie, Walsh, Kelly, Erickson, Mira, ----- Harris, Berlin. I might even take SteveMo over him based on what I have seen from Kaaya so far. The quarterback touches the ball EVERY offensive play. He is the leader of the offense. The game is run through him. Let's call a spade a spade. He has already played 22 games (only 11 wins, 7 of which were meaningful). Where has he lead us? Until he can finish out games with wins, why shouldn't the criticism of him remain? He was 4-7 against quality opponents last year and is 3-4 so far this year. I have trouble slurping QBs that lose this much. Are we starting to see a trend?

The talk that he doesn't have an offensive line/running game only applies to this season. Last year, we were loaded on offense and the results were the same. Perhaps it may be directly linked to the poor coaching by Golden, Doritos, and Coley, but when I see his soft effort on the fumble play, and you look at his entire body of work, I just think this guy doesn't have the fire in him. If we replaced Kaaya with Gino, Vinny, Bernie, Kelly, or Dorsey, would they be 7-11 against quality opponents?

Next year we will find out a lot more about him with the new staff, but Kaaya should not be above criticism based on his performance so far.

I don't understand our fans. They acknowledge that guys like Golden and Corley are total jokes, but then aren't sure if they have a negative impact on player development? Do you realize how silly this is???

Exactly!

How can he lead us to wins if the other side of the ball isn't doing what they should be?

Nice soliloquy OP. It still doesn't change the fact that Kaaya is nothing better than good.

Not great. Not elite. Not transcendent.

Rustle away kiddies.

So your point is that people are blaming losses on a good QB instead of on an atrocious defense? The defense is the low hanging fruit on our problem tree, lets start there and we'll get to the guys who are doing well but could be better later.

How often do Tom Brady or Peyton Manning get out of the pocket?

Kaaya's movement in the pocket has improved and it's reflected in his relatively low sack numbers.

To answer your question - Brady/Manning break the pocket one helluva lot more than Kaaya does. And they're relative statues out there. You're using some major hyperbole here...I'm not saying Kaaya needs to be Aaron Rodgers or in-his-prime Michael Vick. I'm just saying he needs to learn how to break the pocket just 2-3 times a game to avoid the rush, set his feet, and preserve his health...and if he can do that, it puts more pressure on the secondary to cover our WR's longer...which would probably lead to easier throws for him without getting his face mashed in by a blitzing LB up the middle.

And I'm fine with Kaaya's movement IN the pocket. It's his out-and-out refusal to go OUT of the pocket that concerns me. If he ever decides to develop that part of his game (which Pricko Suave being the QB Coach should have already helped him with anyway)...Kaaya will be that "messiah" type of guy. That's really what's missing from his game as a QB. My only other complaint is that I think he checks at the line TOO often. BUT--Arm strength is good. He's great at reading defenses. His accuracy is elite.

Those last 2 things being said...my main concern with him right now is the concussion symptoms. I think his decision-making and accuracy have taken dive since he got nailed in the Clemson game. He's just not exactly the same guy right now. He still makes some really nice throws, but misses some that he would normally hit on as well.
