Blake James: AD of the Year

just a coincidence all this stuff is happening post troll

It's amazing that our fanbase still thinks that the University President gives one **** about athletics, and is actively trying to ***** it over. You realize that Dr. Shalala, even if she wanted to ***** athletics wasn't a dictator, she worked at the pleasure of the BOT, and that group has athletically inclined people who could easily overrule her if they felt she was not acting in the best interests of the department. Dr. Frenk isn't there to win football games, nor care about that stuff, his job is to fundraise and make sure the 9,000+ undergrads that aren't student athletes are getting the tools and the instruction they need in order to succeed.

Let me guess, you assume that Tad Foote LOVED athletics, merely because the teams won? You want to look up someone who wasn't a fan, and most likely could have done without the stupid crap, go read his bio. Then again, rational people understood where Tad and people like him were coming from. The University President has a responsibility to protect the overall image of the institution, and when something directly challenges that, then you have problems. This isn't Alabama, where the school exists to win football games, and if that means ******** over the kids paying tuition, then so be it. Miami is managed like a normal university, where the University President actually does their job.

Disagree. There should balance.

Tad Foote didn't have a problem with Athletics.
He was fine with our baseball team winning 4 natty's while he was there.
He didn't like the way UM football team did it.

Winning football increases interest in the school and more applicants.
More applicants lead to stricter admissions/higher academic standards and the opportunity to raise tuition.
Just chart what's happened at Miami since I attended during the "Suntan U" days.

A President of a University who doesn't get this is just missing the boat.

Clue me in on the difference. He had the exact same finalists for the coaching job as his predecessor had 5 years earlier. Literally zero difference.

No ACC championship game appearances in Donna's 12 years as University Dictator. One ACC CG game appearance in year two of the Vincente' Fox era.

That's one difference.

Frenk and James can go suck a ****. Mark Richt is the only reason this program is where it is and the only reason he’s the coach here is because Georgia fired him. You saw how pathetic the coaching search was, they don’t get any of this credit unless you’re retarded.

Sure Mark fell in their laps but who offered 4 million a year while paying a buyout? Who let Richt go after the biggest DC on the market in Aranda and offer him 1 million? Who gave Mark what he needed to put together a great staff?

Definitely not retarded but the AD and President put the coach in position to succeed and that’s all you need from them.

Anyone would've paid Richt $4 million that's chump change for a guy like him. When we need more money for Diaz then we can start passing out credit. This board was very unhappy that we didn't offer Aranda enough money and had to settle for a guy like Diaz, let's not revise history here.

I didn’t see anybody mad that we didn’t offer Aranda enough money and if they did they’re just unreasonable. We offered a million before LSU countered by making him the 4th highest paid assistant in the nation. We’ve already thrown more money at Kool to keep him. No revising history. They have set our program up and given Richt all he needs to win.

The problem is Richt wanted and has setup the Def to run independently without any oversight from himself. Meanwhile he hires interns on offense to implement his 30 year old scheme.

It’s too bad he won’t apply the same logic to offense and stop calling plays
