Best receiving core in the nation

That's why I'm glad Miami was able to go out and get a guy that isn't a senior. Gives us the possibility of having 2 years with the same qb.
That would set Miami up perfectly at QB, giving Abrams a full season to learn under Mensah. It also wouldn’t push any of the other QB’s to the portal, Miami could have a real, home grown, QB competition in the 28 spring between 4star RJR Luke Nickel, 4star RSO Dereon Coleman, and 5star RFR Israel Abrams

As a group our receiving core without a question is definitely top 3. Miami, Texas, and Ohio State are the elites imo, the next best are Oregon, LSU, Indiana, Texas A&M, Bama, and Florida.

It’ll be interesting to see how Dawson utilizes his weapons during the year and then in the playoffs.
Would love to see us run just enough to keep defenses honest but pass early and often and in 10 personnel preferably, keeping our RBs fresh for the stretch run starting in November. Then really start pounding the rock with relatively fresh RBs with opposing defenses having to use nickel as their base to counter our 10 personnel as those wrs are willing run blockers.
I don’t think there’s a team close to the way our WR’s block…

Last year I thought we could have run the ball better if we were in 4 wide because I thought we would block better with our WRs than Bauman. And it would have alowed us to be more unpredictable with our pass game because you would have had another talented wr instead of Bauman. And with the nastiness we seem to have with our WRs blocking this year, I’m pretty sure that could be true this year too. But I know we really like using a TE.

I just don't see the point of having a TE on the field unless he is minimally competent in BOTH receiving and blocking. That's literally what make the TE position valuable. If he can only do one or the other, the defense knows why he's on the field and they only have to prepare for that one thing. In that case, you may as well have another OL (who is better at blocking) or another WR (better at receiving).

Last year with Baumann, what value did he have over just putting in extra OL or extra WR?

If we can't get an Arroyo type talent, it would be better to just put another WR on the field. Or if blocking is paramount, another OL. Maybe Mueller can eventually be that guy.

Season on the line and Bauman was in the game in ole miss and IU.. We gonna play a te NO MATTER WHAT, thats why I am against neglecting the position and think we should recruit at hard a possible in portal and high school.. They dont care if we have more WR and it makes more sense, TE will play

It seems that way. Though to be fair, recent teams had no where the WR depth that this year's team will have. Unless it's an obvious blocking situation, we need to get all these playmaking WRs on the field.

It's insane how much we have on offense. Dawson has so many players to stress defenses it's going to be interesting to see how he goes about using everyone and mixing up the calls. He better not **** this up by being super predictable.
One could argue he was way too unpredictable against TAM and that almost lost us the game. OC is the toughest job in sports. But he has the track record to show he knows what to do with weapons.

Wonder if it will be a rotation like we saw in early 2017 and then as the year went on Richards, Cager, Berrios, Thomas, were the main guys.

He got too cute with the trick plays no doubt. I just need it to not be so obvious that even I know what we're about to do.

TE will play, no doubt. I think Izzy will be really good, just not this year. Coaches really like Lofton too.

That said, it’s apparent that our strength is at WR. I would argue this year that our top 6 wrs pound for pound are better than our top TE. And what I’m encouraged is that last year we started showing massive shifts in making the right adjustments and breaking tendencies. I see us using 10 personnel quite a bit, especially with the wrs being willing run blockers. IMHO, that opens up everything that much more. Defenses have to respect 10 personnel with nickel coverage - now you got fewer guys in the box and you can run out of that with Fletcher - Mali comes across with a block springing him to one on one with one linebacker or db? I love those matchups.

And to top it off, I’m not sure Dawson is absolutely married to always trotting out a TE. Outside of Arroyo, he has never really had a highly productive TE.

If we have an outlier like Arroyo, absolutely play him. Thats a mismatch. But overall, we just need to play to our strengths instead of our preferences and we will roll fools this year.

I like that channel. Those guys actually know what they're talking about. Although I think they rated our running back room way too low.🤣

I think that was reason TE coach was out the door from both sides, only issue he finally had long prior relation ship with 5 star TE family in next class.. lol sigh

I dont think Dawson is married to it but he has a boss that wants an identity and it has worked for us.. I like Izzy also, but TE is a development position, you need ability to hold your own in blocking, he looks good but much to ask for a true freshman.. Believe me, we were in portal TE thread everyday like we were highlight DB room prior to 2024. There were many good options available, heck even ACC teams like Cal and Louisville snatched some good ones.. We punted, didnt even look at room.. Even a big body blocking type would have been decent.. Something..
