Beau Sandland

Sounds like he had some performance anxiety here. I'm sure he had enough ability to make some impact here, but more often than not, these guys don't pan out because of their mental approach to the game.

Am I mistaken but didn't we sell his departure as medically related? Like he was "retiring" from football?

He struggled in blocking, which is fine. He was recruited to block a litte and be a pass catching threat. He had mediocre hands and couldn't block well. He got passed up by Stand, who had great hands and a big blocking body and Clive was a beast who could block better than you would think and had hands and speed.

his hands are fine. he caught the few passes that were thrown his way. so don't know where people are getting that bs analysis. i think his problem was not knowing the offense.

From watching practices.....

Well I go based off of what guys do in an actual game. And he caught every I got thrown to him. Not his fault he wasnt asked to do anything other than a 3 yd out. All of our tight ends were underutilized while Morris was an. Including nfl calibre Walford. Always hear about this guy sucking in practice and this guy being a practice legend but see very literally correlation to actual game day production. And it's been like that for a while now so I don't know why our fans out so much stalk into what little practice time is open to the public

Beau was plenty talented to play at Miami. The issue was that Miami was the last place he should have ended up at. He actually wanted to go to Stanford but his juco didn't have the sufficient types of courses for Stanford. He was a west coast country boy who was a fish out of water in Miami. It's not the type of place for everybody and can get to peoples heads. He is going to play in the NFL though, very few tight ends out there that are 6'5 255 and running a legit 4.6. Throw in the fact that Fish recruited him and it makes sense as he didn't mesh with Coley.

I know an Oklahoma countryboy Juco transfer that did okay at Miami. If Sandland could have played at all we would have seen a little more than we saw disirregardless of any culture shock or corching ineptitude that may or may not have been happening.

He has stated that while at Miami the players did not help him but actually would give him bad information causing confusion and hesitation. While at Montana State the players have helped tremendously.

He had the misfortune of being here while all the "me" guys were here. Nothing but unity now.

Takeaway from this thread. There's a chance he could play for the Dolphins but can't make the Hurricanes squad......

Sandland was simply not good enough to play here. He was fairly physical, fairly big, fairly strong, fairly good hands.

When you watched him move you could see it wasn't going to work against this caliber of athlete. The mental part, comfort level, support system, QB issues all could be true, but it doesn't change the fact he wasn't good enough to play here.

We have plenty of guys on the roster at other positions that aren't good enough to play here as well, but the difference is at TE we have legit talented depth, and the situation/fit part of things made him willing to waste two years to play one at Montana State.

Shockey relished with the Miami lifestyle, Beau didn't.

Beau Sandland (Montana St.)

5 Rec, 156 yards, 2 TD's today vs. Cal Poly

Nice day for Beau. I've always wondered what went on with this situation.....very weird.

Highlights:

Of note: Montana State OC worked at FIU for Cristobal. He runs the New Hampshire offense (played and coached
at UNH under Chip).

Wasn't athletic enough. It was apparent pretty quick.

He looked like a monster on his JUCO tape, which is a good reminder to always consider level of competition.

Just want to bump DMoney "Spot-on" analysis when Beau Sandland comes off the board in the draft today. :6e482c_o:

The only guy on this board that has any "real" insight on Beau's time @ Miami.

He wasn't athletic enough to beat out Walford and Cleveland, and he **** sure wouldn't have been athletic enough to beat out Njoku and Herndon.

Miami has a high standard for tight ends. Sandland didn't meet that standard. You can blame "cultural differences." I just think he wasn't good enough.

Double down D$. He isn't athletic enough to play here but athletic enough to be drafted in the NFL? Sounds legit.
