Barry Jackson -update on the UM/Diaz situation later today.

Thats what Hackson was allegedly told by the trustee. 8 mil for the 2 years remaining. If true that means Diaz's salary is 4 million per year, which would be ludicrous. Cristobals salary when he was hired by Oregon was about 2.4 mil and he had 5+ years of HC experience. If Diaz got 4 million per year, Blake James is an even bigger f#cking idiot than I could have possibly imagined.

I think that is somewhat misleading (what Barry Jacks-off said, not your post) and needs to be examined (not sure if Manny's contract, with all terms, has ever been publicized).

We may owe Manny $8 million in salary over the next 2 years, but a firing/buyout is usually not at 100% of remaining salary. A good coach/negotiator might be able to swing that, but most (particularly first-timers) do not get such a sweetheart deal. I would say that $8 million is the worst-case scenario, but given the ardor and single-candidate devotion that Beta Blake showed when hiring Manny, I guess it could be possible that he gave his pal a 5-year fully-guaranteed contract. Disturbing, but possible.

What needs to happen at UM is fairly simple. WE NEED TO START BUDGETING FOR BUYOUTS. The attached article makes it pretty clear that buyouts have become the new normal in college football and basketball.

Now I'm sure that Beta Blake will come up with some cutesy way to deflect and claim that he doesn't plan to fail, but then again NOBODY DOES. But the fiscally responsible thing to do is to put $1M per year into a reserve account for this very purpose. Hopefully, you'll never need it. BUT WHEN YOU DO...

Is the $8 million a base salary figure or is it automatically including any bonus money he could earn by meeting specific goals?

I'm going to give a hot take: I think the Diaz era ends on 16 Oct. So we have about 3 weeks left to deal with this. I expect UVA will be somewhat close, but UM will get smoked by UNC again at their place and after another 40+ point loss, that will be the end of the line. The question is whether it will be the end of the Blake James era, which it absolutely should be.

What I don't get is why is there a buyout of the remaining contract if someone is fired. Why is the school on the hook. I get it if the coach leaves on on term to another team with the buyout but not for being fired. If someone were to be fired from their job that isn't a coach they don't get the remaining contract.

UNC this year will be to Manny what Clemson was to Golden in 2015. And I don't think we beat UVA either.

It all depends on the terms of the contract. Head coaches usually get a buyout clause. Assistants usually work on a 1 year deal and have to renew each year.

UVA euthanized the OB and now they are going to euthanize the SOB.

Mario knows that his program’s Playoff Window slams shut the minute USC gets a coach who knows what he’s doing, knows the culture, and knows how to hire Assistants. If Urban leaves JAX for USC (W) , Mario is done out there and so is Oregon. He’ll basically be in the position Mack Brown and the other ACC Coaches are vs. Dabo and Clemson.

Mario has a cleaner route to the playoffs here, but he won’t do it for free. He’ll also want complete control, a big boy pants budget, no interference from his AD or the Administration, and a Wartime Consigliere at DC and OC. Plus the house and a Pat Riley per diem.

Can the BOT handle that?

I refuse to believe Miami agreed to pay that fraud $8 million dollars. My mind doesn’t accept it. It can’t be true. **** Blake James deserves to be fired alone if that’s the case.
